Taylor makes 4 runs. He's been more than a bit shit lately.

But if Ronchi can just stay put for a while with Latham...

Tea on the 4th day. To keep us interested - in terms of the match we're now 339/13. When Dhawan went out the Indians were 350/13.

A bit too much happening out there for me to get very excited yet - and there's the unfortunate fact that our middle and lower order have to match Kohli, Rohit and Saha.

20 odd years ago the ICC issued strong legislation against overappealing, rushing at umpires in a bid to avoid players intimidating umps.

    That's gone.

In a sport where a conversational "howzat" carries equal weight to jumping and screaming, why do players repeat "howzat" 3 or 4 times?

Which oher sport allows players to scream at match officals.

Now I'm all for excited players appealing, but a pattern of "howzat howzat howzat" for even the most spurious appeals serves one purpose only, to intimidate or rattle the human element judging a difficult task.

But the spirit of cricket will suggest there's nothing untoward in this and everyone in the game respects the umpires wholeheartedly.

Oveeappealing could easily be cleaned up. DRS should be universal

    Yours sincerely

    I'm gunna say it....

Based on his last 3 dismissals Taylor should be dropped to work on his game

Laughable technique and decision making (batsmanship) from our senior player

He needs a big fucking kick up the arse, we really needed him to put his hand up against SA and now India.

What an innings from Latham. Doull will try and tell you he's had a life, but the LBW shout was missing off stump so he's actually been solid as a rock right through. In very testing conditions. He's already built an impressive record for such a young man.

    Mike H. just phoned.

Apparently I'm in for Guppy and you're in for Rossco, in his words, "Because you both know so much about it, you pair of knowledgeable flushydunnies"! (the line was bad) 🙂

Gollum was going to be in for Santner after the first innings, but apparently they're having a re-think!

Doull did just make me actually lol, literally. " That is smashing them" to a ball from around the wicket going down leg by a mile.

Is he now taking the piss at his own muzzled predicament? Like a hostage trying to send a message in a hostage video?

A recurring problem: we can't bat.

Perhaps we could select a fourth wicket keeper? And I wonder if Foodbill will be fit for the next test...

I thought you were joking, but we actually do have a 3rd test. I have become so conditioned to crap 2 test series!

After such a promising start our middle order has crumbled badly. Guptill looked to have even turned a corner mentally at the opening of his dig.

But Taylor and Santner have been abysmal in this test match.

    This

Overwhelmingly and ultimately this for quite a wee while since our resurgence as a decent team (shall we all agree to call them the 'Baz years' 😉 )

Our bowling and fielding actually do enough generally to win us games, at least keep us in them, but the batting lets us down more often than not.

    Fucking annoying, frankly

Our "Baz" years were also only about 18 months & was when we had a couple of teams that can't tour for fuck tour us at the moment Baz, Taylor & Kane were all hitting the peak of their batting at the same time. If you look at the low v SA to the low of Aussie raping us 4-0, it wasn't much of a resurgance. It just felt great because Baz in particular was playing some ridiculously good cricket & Ross & Kane were consistently great.

The disappointing thing for me is the shithouseness of our tail. I'm used to our batting being rubbish, but guys like Nash, Vetorri, Cairns, Hadlee, J Bracewell, Oram pulling it out of the fire. I'd back Snedden & Doull to outbat our tail now.

Yes this winds me up more than not having batsmen of the caliber of Kane/Ross in the entire top 5-6.

Right now were 6-down -> all out in a flash. Always makes teams feel they're close to rolling us.

Well, two tests in and two tests lost. Disappointing, but not completely unexpected.

    Positives:

    • Bowling has been pretty good in general. We've managed to bowl them out 3 times out of 4 for scores around the 250-300 mark. So they are not batting us out of the game. No real standouts but everyone chipping in which is what you need in the hot and humid conditions. Henry very good in the 2nd test and should be rated number 2 behind Boult now, with Southee injury cover.
    • Ronchi has been good at 5, though he is obviously not a long-term option, but I enjoy the way he counter-punches when he gets to the crease. We've missed that at 5 post Baz.
    • The start time - it's been brilliant coming home from work and settling into an evening of cricket (yeah I'm grasping for positives here...).

    Negatives:

    • Kane getting sick. That hurt us, bad. Strict diet for the entire team please, local cuisine off the menu.
    • Losing both the tosses. Two of our innings have been the 4th innings of the match when the pitch is 1) at its worst and 2) there is the most pressure to survive. Hasn't made things easy, in saying that...
    • Our batting is what has cost us the chance of getting a win. The other two innings have been the 2nd of the match when batting has been at its best, and we've folded badly conceding big first innings leads undoing the good work of the bowlers. If we don't get 350+ in our first dig we are never going to get close.
    • The Indians incessant appealing with the sole aim of putting the umpire under pressure with no DRS. Some of the appeals were just 100% taking the piss. 1) it's annoying to watch and 2) as fans we are seeing an inferior product with no DRS and no proper analysis of the 25 odd LBW decisions that have been made. Makes for poor viewing - comon India pull your arrogants heads out of your asses and get into the 21st fucking century.

Bring on test number 3. If Rosco can pull finger and Kane can do what Kane does, we do have a chance of snatching a win given we have been able to bowl them out on a regular basis.
