Auckland had to play catch up to that Cantetbury Shield era.

Bugger I thought Grizz was unbreakable. He was a God of Canterbury and Glenmark Rugby. Remember meeting him as a kid at our school and was a big fan of his from then onwards. RIP Mr Wylie.

A few years ahead of me at St. Andrews. He was a powerful player at high school level. Apart from his obvious talents he used to take some long range goal kicks. He could bully the ball a long way!

Hard, tough and uncompromising, as a player he would have walked through broken glass for Glenmark and Canterbury and through miles of stuff for the Black Jersey.

As a coach, he found ways to make sure that other players did too.

If you want to see the legacy of how fucking good the ABs were in the late Eighties, look around you.
