Super Rugby 2025

How good is Super this year. It seems like any team can win on their day. Great for fan engagement, is Super Rugby SUPER again?

Tell you what, the Blues haven't dropped off much at 3.50. We lose next week and we're in massive trouble with still a trip to Fiji in there as well which as was proven by the Brumbies yesterday, even if you win over there, most teams always lose the next week. Its almost the new South Africa in terms of how hard it is to recover from the trip.

Watching the impartial panel (not)on the breakdown
You may as well give the Chiefs the title now according to Beaver and Joe Wheeler thinks Tavatavanawai should replace Reiko at centreAll impartialness goes out the the window and they become fan boys and girls
Ironically only Goldie displaying common sense
For Christ sakes I thought these people were more measured -
I have barely watched super rugby in years. Living o/s part of it, maybe the product has deteriorated, I dunno - just not engaged.
But last night I couldn't sleep so whacked on the Stan highlights - shout out to Stan, the product is bloody amazing - you can want a full replay, a 25min package, or a 10min package, quality stuff - and I ended up watching 4 game packages. High scoring (that ain't new), but high skill level, players looked engaged and cared, some close finishes.
Thoroughly enjoyed it!
Might even watch a whole game again one of these days...

Based on Timoci doing well at 12 at the beginning of SR he should play 13 for the ABs? Good to see Sky's DEI policy extends to the mentally handicapped.

The mini matches are great , I usually only have time for one or two games a week these days
Use the mini matches on other games I have an interest in

If the tournament can maintain the quality of entertainment it has shown so far this year, then how long until the South African teams and their fans will want to rejoin Super Rugby?
What's helped a lot has been the lack of NZ v AU games. Will be interesting to see if the games are as close and entertaining when the trans- Ta$man matches kick off in earnest.
Tahs V Highlanders 37-36, Force V Moana 45-44, Reds V Moana 56-36. All signs point to it being a lot better than previous years. Hopefully the Aussie teams can keep their momentum going, will really spice things up.
I mean that actual trans- Ta$man games, not ones involving Moana...
For what it's worth though, Moana beat the Reds (17-14) and Force (22-14) last year. If anything, the opening rounds indicate they've gone (relatively) further backwards and the competition is actually less close.
Meanwhile, the Highlanders only beat the Waratahs by two points in 2024.
So there aren't really any signs that it's a significantly closer tournament this year just yet. Week 4 will be interesting, when the Blues play the Brumbies and the Crusaders play the Reds.

For Christ sakes I thought these people were more measuredI can barely stomach the Breakdown anymore. It’s so far past it’s used by date it ain’t funny.
Sky need to completely overhaul their main midweek rugby show. The fact they are even talking about AB selection at this stage is just pointless. We already know based on last year’s selections that it’s about how you perform towards the end of the competition, not the start.
As I Canes fan it’s hard to engage in a rugby show that doesn’t mention your team in two weeks apart from a two minute preview of the upcoming game against the Blues this weekend right at the end of the show.
BRING BACK R-UNION!

@Steven-Harris I'm not going to bother with that show this year. It was bad in the past and it's got worse.
-
There are three ways you can do these shows: serious and analytical, pantomime/soap opera, or a bit of both.
Sky Sports have gone heavily down the pantomime route.
-
Out of interest, I watched a recording so I could FF. It's still a show with no appeal to me, which is why I very rarely watch it.
@Steven-Harris Wilson was the one talking up BB starting at 1st 5.

I'll only bother watching Aotearoa Rugby Pod these days
-
I got a weakness for most rugby shows. Aotearoa Rugby Pod my favourite , but I still watch Breakdown as kind of like in here, and liking everyone's opinions etc , and I probably got plenty of time being retired.. Kind of like @Bovidae , I don't FF, but basically just enjoy the bits that I find relevant. Mind you when I was in Wales etc last year(and when I lived in Aus) I watched their rugby shows too. I agree would be good if it upped the formula etc, but I mean even Aotearoa RP can be a cheer squad from those boys too,
Would love to see a proper reasonably critical show on Super comp/games , with stats news etc. -
There's a new pod that's popped up called Super Smack Pod. Quite different to the usual boring stuff, bot hugely deep on analysis but they chat some shit and have some crack up segments. A bit of personality rather than talking about being in and around everything every week.
