v Wellington

@Bones said in v Wellington:
That's some obvious bias from the ref by the looks. All those calls against Northland and absolutely none against Wellington.
Yep, you got it @Bones, I'd get Winger to wade in with a conspiracy, but it's Wellington so he'd be conflicted!
-
Hey, not saying that there aren't calls the other way but two wrongs don't make it right and all you want is a bit of accuracy. Not much displayed on some simple things last night.
The frustration is you can't see what happens to make things better - how are the refs improving their systems to reduce errors?
-
I think Kara is an outstanding player but he is a fair way off in the game management and decision department.
-
@taniwharugby Yes but he his still fantastic! On the same line a thought Waa and Wright were great in contact for us last night. They all play with some pride.
-
with Waikato playing canterbury mid week and having some injuries, the Taniwha could be in good shape come the weekend for a good win. I think the frustrations shown by Kara were more to do with carrying injuries than anything. I liked how Nevell came back on in the 2nd half and added some impact, I think that the team would benefit more of him using him like that. Its a shame we dont see him running the ball more as I remember him dominating club rugby from number 8, 2 years ago. get the starting mix right by playing the players that will grind and lay a platform then introduce the impact players that can play off the cuff rugby.
I think Waikato may be struggling to back up next weekend, hopefully they are sore after the mid week game. If we dont get this game then ............ -
I think we have a good shot at tipping them over, Southland the next week and to finish with NH up here with thier 3rd game in 8 days...
We get a nice 10 day break before Waikato next Sunday too, be good for those with niggles to have a few days off I expect.
Optimistically, we can win all 3, realistically we should win one, probably we will win none...but winning all 3 with BP and we could be in contention for 4th spot on 19 points.
-
@taniwharugby Thats the way I see it.
-
Amazing that a team 0-7 can be still in contention for a semi final spot with only 3 games remaining.
I'm ever hopeful that we may pull off the unthinkable and win our last 3, but I'm probably more of a realist and say we will get beat by Waikato and at least one of NH and Southland too.
So one win from here on in and they'll have exceeded my expectations. Wouldn't that be nice?
-
guess thats the good (and bad) thing about a 7 man comp.
But if we were to win our next 3 and sneak in (19 points is usually good enough) on the back of 3 in a row, you'd be giving them a good shot at taking the next step!
But yeah, me, I'll be happy if we roll Southland and dont come last!

The thing about this year is that we have made progress:
-
the squad looks so much better with some really good young players coming through. Exciting for next year.
-
the second half performances have been really good with fitness a lot better and the bench adding real impact.
-
part from the shocker that was the BOP performance, the guys have generally fronted.
-
we have improved in critical areas, the scrum is now competitive, and after some problems with the lineout the introduction of Robinson has added variation and athleticism. This week they sorted defending the lineout mall by standing off and tackling the player with the ball. Pick and go has been good. Good stuff.
The next big work on is game management. Exiting territory with good kicks, finding the grass with kicks, chasing kicks to create pressure, then executing basics when on attack so you turn pressure into points.
Also at this point Hawkins looks a better goal kicker than Breem but not by a lot....
-
-
and another point: start better!
The fitness thing is an odd one as they do look farked at times, yet they do finish reasonably well, or more that our defence doesnt fall off a cliff.
Yeah is odd that we can still find plenty of positives, when we are (sadly as I predicted) 0/7....but when you put this season up against 2015, this side would probably have put 40 past that one!
