Back on topic.
NZR is tipped to accept a 33% cut in broadcasting rights payment from Sky. Currently they receive $111M per year (previously it was $52M per year). This article says that NZR is leaning towards accepting $75M per year without the rights for the Nations Championship due to start in 2026. The community game will be most affected by this reduced income.
Does the broadcasting deal also include the newly created Nz-Sa series?
I thought the aim was to get a separate deal for that that would rival Lions broadcasting revenue?

anyone use sky now?
how you found it ?I still have normal sky, as opposed to sky now(?), the online only one. It's not a patch on the old spark sport platform, their on demand is just nowhere as good, but you can use the Sky go app when you are away from your decoder

just sick of paying 80 bucks just to watch rugby. looking for a cheaper optionI looked at the online only one, but I didn't think the savings were that good. And I do like to watch other sports aside from rugby. But I agree it probably isn't good value for money
-
I use a Sky Pod with the Sport package included. $68/month. Works pretty well (all works off broadband rather than satellite). The very occasional buffering issue but that's maybe once a week, if that. I don't tend to use many of the features, but you can live rewind etc like you can with a decoder.
Will get more value from it once rugby kicks in again. Helpfully though, most of the other streaming platform apps are pre-loaded in the Sky home screen.

how you found it ?after we moved to aus i switched to foxtel and just used foxtel now, would never go back to having to get a dish physical connection installed. no app is perfect but feel it would have to be unsable to go back to having a box plugged into my frame tv

In NZ Spark Sport was such a better platform

If Foxtel got the rugby rights back I'd consider getting a box back, simply because Kayo, in comparison to Stan, is a poor app that fails too often.
I can handle the odd 480p for a few minutes while watching bogan rugby but if that happens in real rugby I'll have a melt down.
But, it would depend on getting a good deal. I still have a few mates with Foxtel (bogan rugby and cricket die hards) and they just threaten to cancel until they get a good deal.
-
looks like nine/stan are getting it back but yeah...if they had missed out i would consider foxtel again as their is stuff on binge i would watch....but its so much more expensive (last time i looked), when we first moved her i just made friends with the corner pub and they would put the rugby on one of the back tvs for me....

Binge has great shows and the worst app.
I genuinely don't like watching rugby at the pub so I always have Foxtel or Stan. The reality is it's still relatively cheap when compared to other entertainment (movies, going to the pub etc) so I don't mind the cost. Plus, in the current era I share with mates so have got access to more streamers than otherwise.
Binge is the one I'm missing at the moment though. Although I might mix up my Apple subscription and Binge subscription every couple of months.
-
@Nepia i much prefer the pub and will often go down to watch the AFL, games are better without commentary anyway
yeah, cheaper than other entertainment....but expensive compared to stan ($32)...foxtel $100 ($65 if lock in the year)....so best case double

Ah right, thought you were meaning all types not just Foxtel.
One of my mates had Foxtel with the Binge equivalent for two years for $38, they then told him he had to play full price, he cancelled, was contacted a day later to ask why he was cancelling and then got another year for $45. Not sure if the new ownership will be open to the same deals.

the main problem with Kayo is it is so fucking hard to watch. I have two TVs in my house (one of which is the dedicated sport TV) where the fucking app is not compatible. Which was fine when Telstra TV was a thing, but then they got rid of that as well.

Might be stating the obvious here but do you have an Apple TV, Chromecast (the new ones, not the old just casting ones), Hubble etc?
I use Apple TV as there's always updates for them, even my fairly recent Samsung TV has stopped having updates for some apps.
-
Apple TV app only on a couple of TVs (we have too many TVs)
It's just some of the LG ones. The media room TV is too old. Fuck knows about the patio one.
Binge doesn't work on all of them either. It's frustrating as fuck.
-
Also, an additional rant, why the fuck is Sky Racing only available through a fucking foxtel box???? what backwards shit is this?

My (Samsung) TV is about five years old which seems to be ancient in modern terms. None of the apps are maintained for it any more. Stan won't even stream live sport on it.
So my solution is to chromecast everything from my main PC. Less than ideal.
-
@antipodean we had the same with stan on our last tv, 5 years and it wouldnt broadcast sport so would have to do it through chromecast, new one works a treat...but have no expectations 3 years from now
