I would suggest Ravindra could learn a lot from watching Williamson. He still struggles slightly to find a tempo in test cricket, I feel he could still be a little more patient.
It will come. But I don’t think there’s too much to work on. Reckon he balances the urgency to score runs and the demands of test cricket pretty well already.
That was just an off shot which happens every now and then for all quality batsmen.
A bit apt that David Gower was commentating when RR got out.
He was often criticised for careless batting which is possibly harsh for someone who got over 8000 runs at 44 in a tough batting era !

Commentators again putting the mockers on saying Williamson hasn’t been out in the 90s since 2018.
Fuck me - that's worth five years in prison!

We need a bit from our tail here, we will want 350+ given the pitch is pretty flat already. Some disappointing dismissals from players that looked set today.

Southee is good for 30+ on this deck.

Blundell gone for another soft wicket. I don’t think England have bowled that well, we’ve just made poor decisions.

Fuck sakes stop getting out to balls even I would put away! Sheesh, we don't quite have enough here, England with their noses in front. Stead really should have given me a call.

Sitting there in front of your big screen TV stuffing your face with whitebail patties!

Lots of starts which is a bit disappointing, but overall pretty happy with that after being put into bat. We have runs on the board, with the opportunity to put a few more on in the morning, and looking at the 2nd new ball England took there is still plenty of movement in the pitch. Pretty evenly poised so far.

Some rash shots played out there we threw too many of our wkts away,
As I mentioned before the test Bashir may cause problems because of the pace he bowls at and the bounce due to his height.
A few players did get done by the bounce he produces they got caught because of it, -

Some of those guys need to sit down and watch how that Australian team of the late-90s onward played.
They just never gave you anything. Specialist batsmen being caught in the outfield shouldn't really happen - at least not till you've made 100!

Although not many test spinners back in the 90s generated much bounce bowling at that pace. I thought his variation was pretty good and he forced the issue with some of our boys.

@ACT-Crusader Not really a difficult pitch, though - and from 199/3 we've ended up with a middling score - and that thanks to Phillips, Henry and Southee.
Had to go away just after Kane went out - came back and Blundell and Smith both departed, but I haven't yet seen a replay of their dismissals. Surely TVNZ/Spark can manage that.
We may not be able to afford the glitz of the Australian production, but there's quite a few things we could copy and do better. When Sky lost the rights we actually had a better product than the Aussies, but they've lifted their game and we've gone backwards.

Soft cricket by nz. I think every wicket today was ugly, with Kane being the slight exception being surprised by the bouncewhile platung a normal attacking shot. Just a soft, soft day. Back to the happy-go-lucky standards of self-policing these guys have set for themselves since 2021. India was a fluke.

One of the questions I ask myself is 'if I'd be offered it at the start of the day would I have taken it'. I think at lunch and tea the answer was yes, at stumps it's probably a no, but I had to think for a moment.
I'd rather be England, but you're never really behind if you score 300+ in the first innings, even though with this pitch I'd still be feeling pretty vulnerable. Not expecting to add too many tomorrow morning - fresh bowlers and a pretty new ball should be enough to deal with the straggles. (O'Rourke looks like a useless bat - hopefully he grows into that a bit as he masters his main role a bit more. I think a modern number 11 should be averaging 10+, pushing past 15).
Over rate is a joke. I know their are WTC points penalties issued, which teams probably think about a bit, but clearly not that much. It's even worse when you consider that the extra half hour isn't meant to be automatic - they were barely through 75 overs at 6pm. We're not that much better, but I still hate it. This won't be popular (and would never happen) but I'd give penalty runs - 5 per over you're behind at 6pm. You'd have to have a rule that allowed umpires to warn batters that were deliberately delaying and the match ref could make an allowance for genuine stoppages (rain, serious injuries etc). Limited overs now has additional field restrictions if you don't finish on time, but that doesn't really make sense in test cricket, so that was the best I could come up with.
