i dont actually disagree with the captain taking some responsibility for the actions of his team at a team function, im responsible for making sure my team get home safe etc if its a work thing and dont bring the company into distribute, we had team leads fired several years ago when they hosted a team function in a bar that ended with things getting broken and some fighting

You're conflating very different things. You're even getting the general legal obligations of an employer confused with worker's compensation for private travel. Worse still, imposing yourself by the provision of employer provided travel comes with a duty of care beyond an injury sustained during travel sufficiently connected to the employment.

captain sets the cultural tone for a team so if they're all copping punishment for actions he endorsed then i dont think its out of line

It appears the AFL through Dillon has decided to set the cultural tone for the club. Endorsement requires positive actions, which is vastly different to moral judgements and reading the room. Particularly in a private event where nothing illegal happens.

@antipodean i wasn't actually talking legal obligation re making sur people get home, more general leadership, if i arrange a function then im going to make sure everyone is safe, and that extends to not allowing anything to happen that would make anyone else in the team or even witnessing it to feel uncomfortable

every contract ive ever signed has clauses re company values or the like, shouldnt be a surprise to any grown adult when theyre imposed

@Kiwiwomble I'm surprised that you can't see a clear difference between general professional office behaviour and that of only professional players behind closed doors at a private function. Where I might add none of them appeared to do anything illegal, just some jokes the pearl-clutchers are predictably offended about.

i explained im not talking illegal and im not talking "office behaviour" but its clear we're on different pages so im moving on because as many times as we've butted heads i feel i've "liked" a lot more of your posts than we've disagreed and so i dont want to kept arguing until i feel i need to block

John Longmire set to quit the Swans. Real shock. Wonder how much the GF took a toll on him, or this was something he had planned all along...

just came here to post this

was just talking to someone about it and i hope its his call rather than being given a push. I dont think the coach should really be blamed for the GF loss, the squad he put together and that ran out was more than capable of winning, none of the big guns turned up

that is massive. great record right up until that last day of the season. The Swans have been in contention as long as i have been watching the sport. Incredible club. Careful what you wish for?

In other AFL news, how good are the draft rules where we win the GF and straight away get two guns in the draft for peanuts?

Also, Wayne Carey continues to prove he is one of the biggest pieces of shit in the country. cry more and disappear champ. Absolutely no person i know who ever had an interaction with that guy has anything even half decent to say about him.

yeah, love the draft, straight away you get something to get excited about during the off season, from a commercial point of view you'd have to immediately think "maybe i will renew that membership"

its one of the few times ive seen a proper re build, not just lip service excuse for a poor season, GF in 2016, finals for the next two years and then drop to 15 in 2019, 16 in 2020...pick up some good draft picks and straight back into finals and GF's in 22 and 24

AFL have their year absolutely locked in.

We go GF in to trade period in to draft all before cricket season and christmas hits.

Then we roll out of the holidays and the preseason training reports get all the nuffies excited. They are just never far from the focus.

The NRL has the slightly different approach of remaining relevant through the off-field exploits of their players.

@mariner4life exactly, all the new merch is also rolling out so people can order before xmas and once youve shelled out on some gear or someone has given you something...i feel you're more likely to get into next year
