@Virgil I was loving the comments about Australia should start producing some turning pitches for as clearly India can’t play spin or even part time spin in test matches.
That series will be most interesting.
India away from home and their confidence will be shot to pieces. Very hard to see much going right for them over there
I can see them getting hammered by the Aussie seamers on fast bouncy wickets. Could get ugly
does T20 prepare you for that though? My opinion of T20 revised completely after India got up at the Gabba a few years ago with a team of T20 specialists. In some ways you get bouncy, fast pitches with fast bowlers going all out - good prep for Tests in some ways. Yes, this is a hot take.

I don't think they were T20 specialists, just the 'A' team wider squad players. Although, I guess Sundar could be pretty much described as that at that stage, though. Probably was why he was there because of T20 series pre the test series.
India send their 'A' team to the same location as their main test tour (e.g. India A and Aus A are playing a series currently) so they have the best prepared wider squad. The other 2 in the Big3 also have the resources to do this.
It is almost impossible for an Indian player to be a T20 specialist as Finn Allen is doing or the West Indians do. The BCCI refuses to let any Indian players play in the overseas t20 leagues, presumably to protect the IPL's position. So even a Hardik Pandya type probably plays more FC games a year than an NZ plunket shield specialist.

Bloody ripper result, has to be our greatest cricket achievement ever.
Funnily enough I was at an Indian restaurant on Saturday night and they had a tv with the cricket on. I was able to watch the BCs go from 3 down to 9 down in the time it took to eat my Rogan Josh. I mentioned to the waiter who was an avid Indian fan as I was leaving that I am a kiwi and I was pretty happy with what was going to be a 2-1 series win for us. Then didn’t check the result until last night thinking India would have comfortably got the required runs just after lunch some time.
-
I think losing 0-2 would have been an okish result if we at least showed fight.
Losing 1-2 better.
Drawing 1-1 better still.
Winning 2-0 or 2-1 ? Fantasy stuff.
Winning 3-0 ?!?!?!?!?!?!??!
You’re absolutely dreaming.
Don’t wake me up !!!!!!
An absolutely remarkable result.

Favourite sporting memory ever - across all sports
Have to be mine too I think.
I want to go back and find all the comments about a 3 nil whitewash in this thread...
I didn't actually post any of them, but I did concur and am absolutely delighted to have been SOOOOO wrong. Wow. Just fucking WOW.

And still not the front (back) page main story in the Herald today 🙄
Instead it's about the All Black's bench 🙄🙄it should be a national fucking holiday
-
I wonder what the TAB odds of a 3-0 series win to NZ were?
-
NZ had never whitewashed a 3 match (or more) series ever in their history before. Home or away, minnow or giant.
Closest would have been 2014ish when we beat Windies 2-nil in a 3 match series and the first test was drawn when Shane Shillgford put our 4th innings chase into enough of a wobble that we went too slow in a fairly low chase before rain came in final session of the 5th day.
Since we've become actually good at test cricket since 2014, we've had mostly 2-test only home series, of which we've 'whitewashed' plenty. But 2 tests is not really a series, is just a sequence.
Also series v the minnows elevated to test status after us (early Bangladesh, early Sri Lanka, Zim etc were 2 match series. Even back in the 80s)

Anyone have any good memes, as a born again cricket fan last week I'd like to spam a couple of my Indian mates with some meme banter.

What a feeling. This is right up there with the WTC final. WTC was for a world championship so that's really special, and I think I would have ranked the WTC win higher if that had ended up a 2-1 (or 2-0) series. But to be better than India, in India consistently across three tests is a phenomenon achievement, so I'd rank it as the block caps best ever result.
My son was born on the 30th of September. Black caps haven't lost a test since!
Congrats bro.
After the first test win and then during the second when we were taking wicket after wicket it started to feel like the 96 Boks tour. Being able to climb that mountain of a series win.

Young has to stay Kane back in Blundel to 7
Phillips gone, not enough runs and you don’t need another spinner you have Ravindra as a back up 2nd spinner.
Phillips will not bowl in NZ conditions and doesn’t warrant a batting spot ahead of the others on form,
Too hard to throw your opening bat the gloves in test matches he would be on a hiding to nothing.
And you do not need your opening bat to do a finger keeping. -

Philips took five in Wellington just this year.
Shit happens when he comes on to bowl….
I will admit he has been a tad disappointing with his batting returns and the performance of Patel and Santner makes it a tough decision……
But Philips spot in the side is safe surely.

I don't believe it is.
You do not need 2 or 3 spinning options in NZ, he does not hold his place ahead of the top 6 with Williams back, to have him in you have to not pick Young which would be foolish
Or you pick Phillips as the no.1 spinner not an option in my book or you go with 2 seamers in NZ which is crazy. -

In saying that I don’t think Young’s place is assured. At all. I’m thrilled for him getting MOTS as I am a fan but let’s not forget he is a specialist batsman who still hasn’t scored a century at test level.
It’s not all about stats but he also has a lower test batting average than Phillips and isn’t a bowling option at all either.
The fact that Phillips is more than handy at both PLUS can keep is great to have in a team.

Young is batting better than he ever has he has sorted a lot of things out.
He will score more runs going forward, Young batted really well in India in very tough conditions he deserves to hold his spot.
Young contributed a lot to us winning 3 nil .
Phillips did also with the ball but we need runs v England not another spinner.
He is also excellent as a close in fielder under the helmet.
Nothing against Phillips I like him as a Cricketer but balance for me says Young over Phillips. -

Whichever way things go some really good players will miss out, certainly a far cry from some of the bleaker days as a BC fan.

A good position to be in.if we can get all our quicks fit we have some real depth.
