@labcat i know it's wrong but my interest and spirits plummet when I hear this, all too frequent, news.
This has been a shit of an injury for so long now.

@nostrildamus did they misspell her surname? Missing an "a"?...
-
@nta totally agree mate. I spent a bit of time playing with and against Molly Strano and Sophie Molyneux about 4 years ago and they were skilful then, but the improvements have been astronomical. Great chicks too!
(apologies for the name drop but those girls were way cool and molly played the most technically perfect reverse sweep I've ever seen)
-
@nta wouldn't go that far, there's only so many 113km/h half volleys one can watch...๐ but good on them for playing to get the most out of the game.
-
Sounds like the best test match of the entire oz summer. I mean at least both teams were willing to make it a contest and go for a win. Hats off to the women keeping the spirit alive.
-
Happy for the scorchers to get up, best side and Munro is very likeable and self effacing when mic'ed up. Scored a terrific ton early on and should really be a black cap in October world cup. Only kiwi to have 2 years t20 knowledge of Aussie wickets.
Also I'm still not sure how I feel about the Jordan Silk tactical substitution last game. One thing is for sure, if India pulled that trick in Oz there'd be hell to pay!!

@mn5 that's a keeper๐

Anyone think this tour won't be affected by covid?
-
Just the way the old blokes performed in the team, it all looks like a stale environment. Odds on it not freshening up over the next 2 years.
sigh๐ -
@mn5 mn5 looks to his left, points and exclaims " Hey isn't that George Bridge walking with Ian Foster?"
Pheeww, (wipes brow)

@mariner4life gilly and Michael Vaughan ( whose been excellent) mentioned him the other day, with a tone of definite irreverence. Gilly saying often he tried to smash him out of the ground but seldom could and came unstuck on more than one occasion.
It was nice to hear.

We're in the top two without him
Which is a good point.
The rules are shit, but are you displacing a guy who helped get you into the top 2 for Steve Smith? I reckon opinion would be divided.
Jeez mate, it's not under 12s with a participation trophy. Every squad has used many players
Although in oz now who knows.
I'm pretty sure if it was Kane in the Super Smash the team ethos would take precedent.
Although in NZ now who knows
where's that GOM thread (stomp stomp stomp)

BBL
Cricket Australia is clown world again.
Steve Smith not allowed to play for sixers in final because rules are rules.
Sixers captain Moises Henriques says the ruling defies CA's desire for the BBL to feature the best Australian players.
"You have got a former Australian captain, one of the best players in the world," Henriques told reporters on Friday. "You have got IPL teams who pay multi-million dollars just to have this guy as part of their franchise. Advertising, bums on seats, eyes on TV's - I mean, you do the math.
"And we're saying no because of a rule that is two weeks old in some Covid bubble hub. To me, I don't get it. We're in the top two without him ... so I have got absolute belief in our domestic talent and local talent to do the job. I think it's sad for cricket, that's all."
Henriques understood "how those mistakes were made initially two weeks ago" when drawing up the replacement player rules.

@nta never lost one though๐๐

Oh well, the authorities know best, bad luck kids. No chance to meet up with your mates from PNG and Uganda. Next time.
It's risk averse. It may not be appropriate for all, but it's ensuring that some don't get mentally scarred.
Note I'm not agreeing with it necessarily - just pointing out that I can understand the decision. If you're in charge of a young person, locking them up by themselves for 10 days is ... difficult. If something bad happens, you'd be straight in the line of fire and probably on the front page of the Herald.
question: did some Olympians say the isolation was incredibly difficult coming home after a poor event? I think I read that, but last year is very very foggy
I hear you mate and it is a tricky situation. I'm in MIQ right now so I have some idea, but these guys have done a fine job of making it as comfortable as possible without compromising the "no contact" variable. 1 hour everyday (after neg test) of outdoor exercise and even gym use after 2nd test. Balconey for every room. $1200 for 7 days, 3 meals a day and all tests etc. Excellent use of Line or whatsapp to communicate with resident nurse (twice daily temp recordings) and hotel staff instantly.
Contrast with the wife's MIQ in Melbourne with fully sealed room (aircon only is horrendous) and total of 3, 15 minutes sessions outside over 14 days was simply cruel and a recipe for the issues we're discussing.
I get it but the lost opportunity to NZC and the boys due to largely logistical constraints rankles.
One thing for sure though, sharing with a teammate (like most cricket tours do) would be massively better, but I have to concede to the situation in NZ

One of the problems now is that MIQ is fully allocated other than emergency rooms and the rooms being paired with Australian flights to rescue stuck Kiwis, and meanwhile is filling up with Covid at a rapid pace, so configurations are changing almost on a daily basis, which hampers rooms as well.
Absolutely, but mental health was the reason for forfeiting NZ's place in the ICC U19s World Cup 2022

If I read it right, one adult per room = $1,610 (Charges by Room), so $32,200 even if they send a group of 20. I gather it's more room availability/ability to book.
I understood there are real responsibility issues with putting a 15/16 year old into an isolated room for 2 weeks. It isn't normal for those kids, and with no parents/responsible adults is high risk. Who is responsible if the kids mental health deteriorates? What can you reasonably do? I think those were more the issue to be fair
Ah, my bad, I was thinking mainly of the Black Caps, not the U19's. Though the cynic in me wonders if the average 18-19 year old (depending on the tournament age qualifying date) might have enjoyed a ten day Play Station stint
some will no doubt! The issue is those that don't, and how that plays out if they struggle (particuarly if they had a bad tournament/got injured/have other life issues).
But I am surprised the Black Cap's can't get slots. Maybe they need to DJ?
I understand the concerns, but jeez that's a lot of ifs for a group of well resourced young men partaking in a procedure done all over the world everyday.
I'd like to hear from the (army age) lads if they're are prepared to MIQ in exchange for the tournament of a lifetime - Caribbean!
Oh well, the authorities know best, bad luck kids. No chance to meet up with your mates from PNG and Uganda. Next time.

Follows on ( pun!) From the Under 19s withdrawing from the current world cup also due MIQ concerns.
Except, that decision was made on November 18 2021.
Just makes you proud to be a tough, pragmatic kiwi with that "can do" attitude" we used to be famous for๐
"Some of these guys in the under-19 setups can be as young as 16,โ Boock said.
"We didnโt think it was appropriate to force young people to undergo MIQ.โPlayers would have undergone MIQ in a room by themselves, without support from family and with only digital commination between teammates.
Players were not involved in the decision but have been briefed on it.
