I really do think its been a fricking outstanding 10 years for top drawer series, the 2 in a class of their own (Wire, Sopranos) then a fuckload that are very very good (Breaking Bad, Shield, 6 Feet Under, Deadwood, Dexter) and then another lot that are well worth getting (24, Battlestar)

You've really got to have a vast amount of time on your hands before you are reduced to watching Desperate Housewives, CSI Miami, Heroes & Greys Anatomy. And even thats probably being unfair to Desp Housewives, it didn't make me want to claw my own eyes out like that ginger fucker in CSI does...

And thats without even starting on the superb comedy stuff about like Peep Show, Curb, Weeds etc -
I wonder how they'll sell this if and when it comes out on dvd?
you generally get a double sided DVD with a 2d version & a 3d version & give away shit 3d glasses. thats what pretty much all of the 3d releases have done. Interestingly (or not) 3D movies MASSIVELY underperform on DVD, they are a real stinker, probably because people assume you have to watch them in 3D,

Watched Avatar (like everyone else) over the break, pretty good, great CGI - after 30 minutes or so you forget its CGI, which is pretty much the hallmark of great CGI in my book. Story is a bit hokey but its still very entertaining.

Also watched Let The Right One In (Swedish vampire movie) very arty & surreal, I liked it but it was very strange, not scary or horrific, more like a work of art than a movie. -
Ya, the Robin Hood trailer looked pretty good - people getting a massive sword in the head and shit <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
It really is Gladiator 2. (YAY!)

I defy anyone to watch big Russ smoke those 6 guys & end with the double handed beheading in Gladiator & not pee themselves just a little bit at the awesomeness of it. Its like the bit in Star Wars when you realise Han Solo has come back & shot those last couple of Tie Fighters.

Yes Russ, yes I am entertained. -
And on a review / upcoming point I saw the 99% finished version of this a little while back -
"]

(its Kick Ass)

The trailer pretty much sums up the movie. Its just superb, action, great one liners & just an insane amount of very inappropriate violence. Based on a slightly obscure set of comics. Next year is shaping up to be superb from a mindless exploding helicopters people being shot in the face kind of way - Clash of the Titans, Robin Hood (ie Gladiator 2), Kick Ass, Iron Man 2... -
And I'm not convinced about Sam Worthington, he's fine in a Colin Farrel sort of way, but like him I have no idea how he's getting these movies. He was very earnest, and with some of the dialogue he bloody needed to be.
Its a snowball thing, he hit the headlines in Somersault & then he gets cast in 1 huge film & then everyone goes "I saw this guy in Somersault, he was pretty good & he's cast in Terminator 4 so by the end of 2009 he'll be HUGE, so we cast him in Avatar".

Then the when they are casting Clash of the Titans they go ""I saw this guy in Somersault, he was pretty good & he's cast in Terminator 4 AND in Avatar, so by the start of 2010 he'll be HUGE so we'll cast him in Clash!".

And so on, becomes self-fulfilling. That and they are betting on him becoming MASSIVE & yet they can get him for a tenth of the price of Christian Bale.

Same happened a few years back with Shia Lebouf.

And for that matter with Colin Farrell

We recently bought a film for no reason other than it having Gemma Arterton in it on the back of it delivering in Q4 2010 after shes been in Clash & Prince of Persia. Shes shit for the role, but its a bet on her being massive. Cracking set of tits tho'. -
I do love the fact that folk can readily accept 10 foot tall blue aliens but question the scientific legitimacy of future health care standards & feel they lack realism <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Not a review, but I shit myself in excitement yesterday when watching this -

I know its probably going to more 300 than Gladiator, but fuck me its a cracking trailer

Oh, on the review front, saw A Serious Man, very very good movie but seemed more like an exercise in film making & less like a film. One of those for people to talk about how wonderful it was to make others feel they are deep thinkers, like the way people cite Citizen Kane as a clasic despite it being boring as all fuck. Still, it was pretty good, but more in a Man Who Wasn't There way from the Coen Brothers, rather than Burn After Reading or Lebowski -
Jennifers Body

Megan Fox lezzes up & goes demonic. I was expecting it to be utterly shit, but it was actually watchable. Needed to be a lot scarier, sort of falls between funny (intentionally) & scary, but not enough of either. The good joke lines sort of get lost a bit. And theres no hooters. Not even side-boob.

Think its got slagged a bit cause everyone is expecting Juno 2, and because people have sort of had enough of Fox.

Probably one to pick up on DVD when it gets in the bargain bin, or watch on Sky in a year

6/10 -
Oddly for a tarentino I thought the music was the bit that really let it down, the music through-out seemed really badly thought out.

Some cracking digs in the movie too, like the bit about "In France we respect directors" <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> -
Inglorious Basterds, pretty good, very Tarentino, probably his best film. The dialogue is a LOT better than kill bill, and most of the actors were excellent. Few very good laughs too. Did amuse me that its basically about terrorists attacking the occupiers, as noted in the movie at one point, guessing that'll fly over the head of most audiences <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Definately recommended tho' -
Watched 500 Days of Summer (shut up, it was free), supposed to be a rom-com, not a lot of com & no rom, its about a guy getting dumped (no spoiler they tell you that from word go), very quirky, but pretty good too, if you've ever been a wreck over some heartless whore who dumped you you'll get a lot out of it <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> was enough humour to make it worth the watch, wouldn't take a 1st date to it tho' as it'll polarise men & women, could take a long term missus to it tho'

Watched Public Enemies too, great acting directing script etc, but pretty fecking boring really. Reminded me of The Assasination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (the brad pitt thing). Sort of "worthy" rather than being "fun" -
Not actually a movie I've seen, but from memory a lot of posters on here will be stoked about this -
1st of Bernard Cornwells books to hit the big screen soon... (well, 2011). If that works theres a fuckload of a back catalogue to mine!

Independent takes aim
Hirst to adapt Cornwell's bestseller 'Agincourt'
By SHARON SWART

Luc Roeg's London-based Independent Film Co. has tapped "The Tudors" creator Michael Hirst to adapt Bernard Cornwell's bestseller "Agincourt." Pic will focus on Nicholas Hook, the humble archer who fought the French alongside Henry V in 1415 in one of the bloodiest battles in European history.

Independent optioned the feature rights to "Agincourt" earlier this year and plans to mount a E25 million ($35 million) European co-production. Pre-production is slated for late 2010, followed by a spring 2011 shoot.

Cornwell's 2008 novel sold nearly 200,000 hardback copies in the U.K. in the first three months and sat on the New York Times bestseller list for four weeks.Outside of Showtime hit "The Tudors," Hirst is primarily a feature screenwriter. He penned 1998's "Elizabeth."

A former William Morris London agent, Roeg co-founded management-production company Artists Independent Network in 2000. Four years ago, he spun off a separate production-finance-sales shingle, Independent, backed by VC fund Living Capital Group.

Independent most recently developed and financed "Mr. Nice," a biopic of a London drug dealer who got out of jail time by posing as a MI5 agent, starring Rhys Ifans, David Thewlis and Chloe Sevigny. Company also is repping foreign on Duncan Jones' "Moon," which it boarded at the script stage. -

Do the first 5k in 20 minutes, even if you are feeling good. Then the next 5k you can up pace, and you'll be there before you know it!!
Even if you start out feeling shit, keep that frist 5k pace at 2:00, as you might come right anyway, even if struggling over that first few ks...
I'd always go the other way if I was trying for 10k - ie try to get to 5k in 19.30 - 19.40, then just cling on for as long as possible. Actually I'd aim for 2.5k in 9.30 & then 2m / 500m splits thru to 5k.

If I try it the other way I find I have no chance.

That said I haven't done 10k this year <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> -

Thats proper fast, crap timing of the illness tho! I haven't done a decent time in months, blame the cricket, the champions league & the WC, I've been cylcing so I can watch the gym TV instead. Nothing much to watch now.... -
new PB for 10k, eclipsing old one by .2 of a second....

35:52.7
Is there an international standard for 10km? Same way there is for 2km? Cause thats ridiculously fast... be interested to know what the pros rip thru that in. -
Well done! Always good to get under the 'industry standard'!!

Try a few 6km pieces, it is amazing how quick you will get to 5k on the way to the 6. and when you sit to go for a 5k time, you will have much more in the tank as you go into that last 1000m.
Yeah that does work a treat, you get used to doing even fairly slow 30 minutes or 10kms or 8kms & then you go back & do a 5km & kick the crap out of your PB

Top work getting under 20 mins, even better on the new C2's because they have the memory on them & in a gym you can look & mentally section yourself off from everyone else, sod all people do sub 20min 5k's. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> -
19:01.6

Yes, 1.6 seconds off getting under 19 minutes for only the 3rd time ever

Got 300m out & was doing 1:46 & just needed that to hit 18:58 & then realised I was going to pass out if I didn't ease off. Never a good look. -
Yeah Mog, or get a bit of maintenance done on it - that would probably be cheaper!!

Fuller - great for fitness - no impact on your ankles / body.

Instead of that long 40 minute run, do a row. But for your shorters stuff - you still gotta run, get your muscles used to running as well as rowing - but would have to help fitness in general..
All I do is row & bike, I played touch the other night, did a sprint & my quad totally seized up. Realised I probably haven't run in a year. Everyone went "yeah, YOU'RE fit you broken muppet". It was not good.
Its really all in the rhythm eh, its very similar to swiming, if you get the action right & smooth you can just cruise along, if you action is all over the place its pretty much impossible, most people give it up without ever getting the action right, timing knees & hands so they don't colide or worse so you have to do some weird camel hump in the stroke REALLY seems to throw people -

yeah, my 7 million plus metre rower is certainly harder to row on - but a good training machine now - when I hit the gym ones, it is lightning on wheels!! or rollers and spinning wheels things...

Might have to look at upgrading my home rower when finances permit!!
Can you just tighten the chain up on them? Thats always what seems to go
