Awesome try to big Gus Brown! Great conversion.
14 - 7 Napier Boys'
-
Hastings Boys' just conceded a try.
20 - 10 Hastings Boys'
-
Hastings Boys' hit back straight away. Great try! They would be much further ahead if they had a player that can kick at goal.
25 - 10 Hastings Boys.
-
Half time:
Napier Boys' 14 - 7 Wellington College
Hastings Boys' 27 - 10 Scots College
-
Hastings Boys' are on fire. Another try!
34 - 10 Hastings Boys'
-
Napier Boys not in the ref's good books. All the penalties go against them.
Just as I write that, a Wellington players tries to be too flashy, keeping the ball in by throwing a no-look pass to keep the ball in play isntead of touch ... straight into the hands of a Napier back who goes on a run and scores under the sticks.
21 - 7 Napier Boys'
-
In the mean time, Hastings Boys' have scored again and lead 41 - 10.
-
Another great try to Napier. First thought one of their players was too greedy and tried to score himself, just being tackled before the try line, but they kept possesion and it was their hooker going over.
28 - 7 Napier Boys'
-
To thnk were only 10 minutes into the second half, this could get very ugly again in both games.
One of the Wellington College players is now sent of with a yellow card.
-
Some beautiful ball handling by Napier Boys and they're in again. It's going fast now. I think it was their halfback this time.
35 - 7 Napier Boys'
A (I suppose Wellington College) supporter is getting a bit angry haha.
-
There must be something wrong with the camera in the Hastings' game, because it's frozen, but the clock on screen keeps going.
-
This ref! Now a Napier player (20) sent to the bin with yellow. Not sure what for.
Edit: seeing it is the reserve halfback, I can imagine it was for backchat haha.
-
No idea what's happening in the Hastings Boys' game, but the score on screen hasn't changed.
-
Another great try to Napier. I think it was no. 8 Max Rattcliffe, but not sure. In the lead-up, one of their players did get tackled hard and he's not in a good state. Conversion missed, with Berkett still in the bin.
40 - 7 Napier Boys'
While I type this, I see the score in the Hastings Boys' game has changed to 46 - 10 and ... Napier Boys score again. I predicted it would get ugly!
45 - 7 Napier Boys'
-
Reserve LH prop Tuli Faleiva is just as good a ball running prop as Lolani Faleiva (I assume it's his brother).
Max Ratcliffe makes a great break. Unfortunately, the back he passes the ball to, knocks on.
-
Scots College have scored.
46 - 17 Hastings Boys'
And yes, Napier Boys' have scored again, too. I'll need to watch both games again, because I'm missing too much, trying to watch both.
Hastings Boys' have scored again, too.
52 - 7 Napier Boys'
53 - 17 Hastings Boys'
-
Max Ratcliffe on repeat. Awesome break, just not fast enough to go all the way, passes to another player and the next player knocks on. I think Max should back himself and just try to fend off the opposition player. He's big enough.
-
Full time:
Hastings Boys' HS 53 - 17 Scots College
Napier Boys' HS 52 - 7 Wellington College
AWESOMENESS!
Both our top schools are looking good, but let's not forget that these Wellington schools are utter sh*t. They're going backwards. From the 8 games played, they've won one! Yes, today, Gisborne Boys' lost to St Pat's Silverstream (11 - 39), but Palmy Boys trashed St Pat's Town (47 - 5).
We'll see how good our schools really are in the Super 8. Hopefully we'll have good year. It looks promising.

Wed 25 May 2022
Napier BHS v Scots College - 10.00am @ Napier BHS - Livestream: https://sideline.live/play/17026 -
Some of my scribbles from the first half; I'll watch the 2nd half tonight.
0 - 3 pen Scots
5 - 3 try to hooker Tyrone Chrystal from a line-out maul
7 - 3 con Luke ThomasThus far, NBHS parked in Scots' half, often in 22
Napier Boys' totally dominating, thus far. Their setpiece is so much better than Scots'.Very sloppy defence from Scots', and Napier's right winger CJ Mienie scores almost untouched. Try not converted: 12 - 3
After a scrum on Scots' 5m, it's Napier's LH prop Ta$man Soanai-Oeti who goes over (pick 'n go): 17 - 3
19 - 3 con Luke ThomasFrom 30th minute, Scots gradually getting more in Napier's half, but thus far butchering every little opportunity; now a line-out throw not straight (not for the first time).
Napier's right winger is seriously good under the high ball.
Half time: Napier Boys 19 - 3 Scots College
-
Another good win from Napier Boys'. Will watch the second half later & add some comments.
Full time: Napier Boys' 33 - 17 Scots College
-
Today's game:
Lindisfarne College v Hastings BHS - 2.30pm - livestream: https://sideline.live/play/17081
Again no team line-up posted for Hastings Boys.
-
Ten minutes played, and Hastings Boys is struggling to get out of its own 22, let alone its own half. Lindisfarne's defence has been good. Hastings' halfback (I think it was him or the 10) threw an intercepted pass, but Lindisfarne didn't get through Hastings' defence either. Then a senseless kicking contest, with finally Hastings kicking for touch after about 6-7 kicks, followed by a very good attack from Lindisfarne that almost lead to a try.
Now a Lindisfarne scrum inside Hastings' half ...
-
Finally, a Hastings' line-out close to Lindisfarne's try line ...
-
... butchered.
Lindisfarne kicks the ball away, and Hastings starts a new attack from their own half and ...
try time! I think it was Hastings' 5.
It's Hastings' left winger who does the goal kicking. The ass ref was outside my screen, but apparently the kick was good.
Hastings Boys' lead 7 - 0 after 17 minutes.
-
Lindisfarne scrum in Hastings' half, Lindis player kicks for touch, but instead of going into touch the ball gets knocked on by a Hastings player. Another Lindisfarne scrum very close to Hastings' try line ...
-
Sona Taumalolo is the waterboy, giving his advice just two metres away from the scrum. It doesn't help, Lindisfarne still has the ball and are hot on attack, until an intercept from one of the tall Hastings' players jumping, and then taken in the air by a Lindisfarne player. Penalty Hastings, kick for touch, Line-out near the middle of the field. ...
-
I want to know who Hastings no. 5 is. He's seriously good, tall and strong. Just stormed through Lindisfarne's defence to score what I think is his second try (that is, if he was also the first try scorer, will check that later).
The try is converted and Hastings Boys' lead 14 - 0.
-
Hastings' line-out close to their try line, driving maul, Lindisfarne collapses the maul but game continues with a Lindisfarne attack. Again Lindisfarne close to scoring, but is all ends in a forward pass.
-
Too many scrum resets in this game.
-
Hastings' halfback is their weakest link. He's slow. He just waited so long, that Lindisfarne almost stole the ball.
Lindisfarne line-out, again too close to Hastings' try line, but Hastings steals the ball.
Penalty Hastings, it's the right winger now who kicks for touch. Good result. Line-out well into Lindisfarne's half.
-
The line-out has lead to a Hastings try, with the hooker going for a run and scoring in the left corner.
Hastings no. 11 misses the conversion.
19 - 0 Hastings. Almost half time.
-
Argghh, Hastings halfback going for an adventure, kicks the ball, chases, looks back at his team mates, only for a Lindisfarne player to pick up the ball. Fortunately, nothing done with it. I hope the Hastings' reserve halfback is better.
Half time:
Lindisfarne 0 - 19 Hastings Boys'
-
Well-worked attack from Hastings Boys, leads to Lindisfarne offending in their 22. Hastings line-out ...
overthrown, straight into the hands of a Lindisfarne player. Not long after, a Lindisfarne player knocks on. Time for a Hastings scrum .. arggghhh, another reset. ... and another one.
-
After a failed Lindisfarne attack, we're back in their half. They have the line-out .. and one of their backs throws an intercept pass. A Hastings forward goes for a run but is tackled just before the Lindisfarne try line. Lindisfarne player is then pushed by a Hastings player and drops the ball as a result. The Hastings LH prop is sent to the bin.
Lindisfarne scrum goes very well as a result with a massiving driving maul, advantage ..
Going back for the penalty. Kick, touch line-out just in Hastings' half.
