Blues 2022

We could do with an update on Segners injury last weekend?

@daffy-jaffy said in Blues 2022:
The Blues have contracted three young prospects for 2022 in midfielder Corey Evans, 20, halfback Taufa Funaki, 21, and lock/loosie Cameron Suafoa, 23.
And of course Rieko, who is still only 24 (amazed emoji; he seems to have been around forever)
-
A couple of things I want to see next year:
Robinson at lock. He's good enough in the air and he shifts bodies around the field.. does he offer enough in the scrum?
Having Papali'i/Sotutu/Akira/Robinson on the field at the same time would be usefulFunaki in the 23. If the rumours are true Nock tried to get an early release. He's unlikely to stick around next year so it's time to develop a new halfback

SullivanI'd be moving Perofeta to Outside backs and Plummer to midfield (12). Yes they cover 10 but are much better in other places. Meanwhile get Sullivan into the playmaking role as much as possible. That boy looks to have the class attributes to play 10 really well and could well be the star 10 the Blues have been searching for (forever). Don't throw the opportunity away and develop another 15.

@nogusta said in Blues 2022:
@tim who will the midfield be assuming Plummer plays 10 when Barret and Rieko are rested the first few rounds?
There's no mandated ABs rest, they will probably play.
-
I've missed this, but has Dillon Hunt not recovered from his head knocks?
-
@nogusta said in Blues 2022:
@kirwan no he hasn't so he's retired
That sucks, hope his health is good. Especially after Steve Devines experience
-
@tim I like the promise of Heremaia Murray as an acadamy prospect but he is likely too green for SRP. They may not carry midfield cover due to in squad cover options. Hooker and Halfback wtg cover interests me. Maybe Apisai if he doesn't get picked up elsewhere but likely Halfback cover is a mystery to me. Sam Wye again more an academy prospect. Maybe get Chapman up from Ta$man? Haven't seen enough of Will Grant from Northland.

You and me both
He stands out in club footy, has a decent pass, good running game but just not enough gametime to make any claim.
I can't even recall the 9 we signed early in the season as jnjury cover for Nock just before lockdown...iirc he has signed with Auckland next year anyway.
-
@taniwharugby Manu Paea. He is signed with MP.
-
@daffy-jaffy yeah that was him, think he was carrying an injury when we signed him as injury cover too
-
@taniwharugby He is a very good prospect. He can also play midfield. Will be interesting to see how he goes jumping straight from age group footy to SRP.

I guess he is returning to Auckland due to Ruru being off overseas.

@nepia ok then have it your way I'm over it
I think you do work for NZR considering how seriously you're taking this. Since I have your ear can you move the Magpies to another franchise please?
He might be more receptive if you refer to it as a "club".
But, @george33 , he's right. They're franchises.

@daffy-jaffy can't wait! Will be a great day out

Only just read hunt had retired, really disappointing news, I always rated him hugely and was gutted when he left Otago and the highlanders

Jonathan Ruru:
As a kid all I ever wanted to do when I grew up was to play rugby. So for just a young Māori boy from Napier, being able to do that in NZ for the last few years has been nothing short of a dream come true.
I’ve been part of some special teams, achieved some amazing feats and meet a lot of really good people along the way.
But I’ve decided to call time on playing footy here in NZ for now and am super excited for the new opportunities that lie ahead.
Thankyou to all who have helped me in any way. I’m grateful to have you all and be able to continue living this dream.
Until next time, au revoir ✌🏽

just looked it up - and you're spot on! Was going back to edit

Will be interesting where they announce RTS will play.
Whilst Blues and ABs have spots open at 12 RTS seems like a Havili to me - better suited wider out.

Ofa Tuungafasi (Northland),
Forgot about that
shows how poor administration (NZR, Blues before the current board) can stuff up a high performing team

Noted that Rangi talked about Suafoa with the Lock group rather than with the loosies.

So he was later born somewhere else?

He's been talked about for a while but I haven't seen him play that often
Is his best position lock? Is there another player he's similar to?

It sounded like Leon compared him to a player in the video, but I couldn't make out who it was
-
@duluth No one has seen much of him since he left school due to long term injuries. He played once for Auckland in 2019, once for Ta$man in 2020 and twice for Harbour this year, I have only seen him play at 6. An aggressive tackler and ball carrier. I guess a similar style of player and physique to GC-T. 1.96m and 116kgs. Just needs an injury free run.
