Some comments by Rennie:
On the exclusion of Scott Sio and hookers Folau Faingaโa and Jordan Uelese.
โWeโve been writing a list out every week and having discussions around it. Itโs chopped and changed a little bit. We had our final meeting this morning and there were a few guys on the list - who I wonโt mention - that arenโt on the list now,โ Rennie said.
โScott Sio - weโre only taking two looseheads in, if you picked that up. Because we wanted four hookers. Weโre limited to 40 players and I think there are a couple of things there that give Scotty an indication there are a couple guys ahead of him, in our opinion. Itโs a message for him to really fire up over the next few weeks.โ
โAlex Mafi - forget about the two tries he scored behind the pack last night - he has a real point of difference out wide. Heโs more like a Kiwi hooker. He has really good pace and heโs gone really well,โ
โThe Reds used [Uru] as a lock initially and we see him as a genuine loose forward as well. As an eight or a six. Heโs 110kg - a reasonable size - and a really good athlete. He has a really good physical presence as well. Weโre rapt to see him start last night and keen to learn more about him.โ

Angus Bell lucky to be there IMHO. I guess the Tahs will be told to start him ahead of HJH to see if he's worth it over Sio.

Andy Muirhead, a 27 year old uncapped winger making the squad. There is still hope for us other old buggers after all.

Has come on rapidly the last couple of years IMHO, and will challenge the Fijian wingers
They showed a feature on him a couple of weeks ago about who he was and where he was from. Would be our first indigenous Wallaby since Beale?

Noticed that the squad and updates hadn't been posted in this thread, so here we go:
https://wallabies.rugby/news/2021/06/13/wallabies-squad-france-series
Updated test schedule:
- Wallabies v France, Wednesday 7 July, 8.00pm AEST (10.00pm NZT) at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane
- Wallabies v France, Tuesday 13 July, 8.00pm AEST (10.00pm NZT) at AAMI Park, Melbourne
- Wallabies v France, Saturday 17 July, 8.00pm AEST (10.00pm NZT) at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane
-
He will miss all three Tests, racing the clock to be fit for the Bledisloe Cup, slated to start on August 7.
His injury opens the door for Reds scrum-half Tate McDermott to make his debut start for the Wallabies after a starring role in the Reds' Super Rugby AU title.
McDermott is joined in the race for the starting spot by Waratah Jake Gordon and White's club team-mate Ryan Lonergan.
Gordon is facing his own injury battle, suffering an MCL injury in their Round Four loss to the Highlanders.
Initially feared to be an ACL, Gordon looks set to make a remarkable recovery as he battles Lonergan for a spot in the 23.
Lonergan, who was initially brought into the squad as injury cover for Gordon, will be pushing alongside brother Lachlan to become the first set of brothers since the Fainga'a's to play for Australia.

Great way of presenting the info, if still a little subjective

New Western Force recruit Izack Rodda and Toulon back Duncan Paia'aua have been called up into the Wallabies squad for the Bledisloe Cup and The Rugby Championship.
Rodda makes his return to Australian rugby after returning from French side Lyon, following his departure from the Reds in 2020.
Meanwhile, Paia'aua becomes the first player to be selected under the amended 'Giteau's Law', which allows players outside of the 60 cap limit to be selected with other players unavailable to join the group in Queensland and overseas due to current border restrictions.
They are joined in the 42 man squad by Rodda's Force teammate Tom Robertson and Brumbies lock Nick Frost.
Meanwhile, Brumbies duo Nic White (knee) and Scott Sio (hamstring) along with Jordan Petaia (quad) have overcome injuries to earn a recall to the squad.
The 42-man squad contains eight uncapped players, with four others making their debuts in the 2-1 series win over France this month. -

Can somebody explain to me why Australia think it's a good idea to add the biggest arshole in rugby to their squad as a 'mentor'!??

Can you confirm which of the many possible candidates you refer to?
-
@mackerzzzz JOC is out for the comp. So Noah is really the only recognised 10 in the country who is fit and can travel.
I think you are right and either Toomua or Hodge would get the nod but we are basically one injury from a retired player being called into the 23.
Desperate times..

Well yes good point. They seem to have a great ability for making arsholes.

Good balance to that Spring tour - Japan will offer something a bit different before we go see if our forward game is improving.

Scotland at home in Murrayfield will fuck your shit up, four Lions test backs alone, get ready for a cricket score.

Not a lot looking at others who have come back.
But decent if he can recapture his pre Japan form. -

I doubt it's hurt it. Probably protracted his career mostly.
He's a great addition though, might allow Hooper to actually be able to take a game off if he's battling concussion symptoms again rather than just throw on some headgear and be told "she'll be right maaate".....

The Lions had backs? Kick chase will be good though.

Anyone know whether Skelton has improved up north? Last I remember was he was a useless lump of meat at the Waratahs, who couldn't utilise his large frame effectively.

Ge has slimmed down a fair bit too. Not to the point that he isn't huge, just gotten rid of the extra fat
