@Nepia Nah - we took him as a loan player from "his parent province", Canterbury. πŸ™‚

Developed him for you guys. πŸ™‚

    Not sure @Gunner

George Konia played for Manawatu first ....

But played for Hawkes Bay schools before that.

I assume @Gunner is suggesting he's a bad coach and that's why we'd want him coaching the Taniwha?

    Yes you're right.

In 1987, his last year at Te Aute College, he made the HB Under 18 team that won the Central Region Under 18 title.

That HB Under 18 team contained Shaun Bell, Aaron Hamilton, George Konia, Nathan Paewai, John Timu, Andre Bell, Jason McDowell, Stu Forster, Greg Halford, George Ormond, Justin Cullen and Gordon Falcon, who all went on to play first-class rugby.

No wonder they beat Wellington 25-7 in the final.

@Nepia looks like it's made up basically of of TKK o Lindisfarne.

Also should we add Marvin Karawana to the midfield options?

@Stargazer As you're clearly going to be our team captain, how are we going to select our team?

@Nepia Moi??????? I'd maybe create a poll if that was possible in a post (in an existing thread), but I don't think it is.

This is my attempt at naming a team. I'm far from sure though. So many loosies to choose from. Not sure about the halves, especially in the reserves. I want Dagg in the starting XV but no room at fullback, and then there are several wings to pick from. That 23 jersey could go to so many players ... πŸ€”

    1 Sona Taumalolo
    2 Norm Hewitt
    3 Brendon Edmonds
    4 Brodie Retallick
    5 Bryn Evans
    6 Mutu Ngarimu
    7 Karl Lowe
    8 Gordon Falcon
    9 Brad Weber
    10 Ihaia West
    11 Zac Guildford
    12 Andrew Horrell
    13 Richard Buckman
    14 Israel Dagg
    15 Jarrod Cunningham

    16 Ash Dixon
    17 Clint Newland
    18 Ben Tameifuna
    19 Mark Abbott
    20 Gareth Evans
    21 Danny Lee
    22 Dan Waenga
    23 Roger Randle

Good work, now we can fight it out using that as a starting point.

I'd go with Ben T over Edmonds.

    Hika over Hewitt.

Graeme Higginson at lock if Canterbury don't pick him up (which seems unlikely).

Watts over Ngarimu but we should probably select Michael Johnson there.
Maybe Seymour over Lowe at 7 although Falcon was an awesome 7 when he first played too.

Lee over Weber. Although we're forgetting about Stu Forster too who is a chance.

McClutchie and Falcon are already better 10s than Waenga for the bench but Berquist would probably rival Ihaia for a starting spot.

Murdoch Paewai or Matt Cooper in the midfield.

We can chuck Paul Cooke and Paul Turner into the mix due to the selection criteria.

Greg or Matt Cooper or Dagg at fullback. Cunningham was great, and RIP of course, but those three were all better players.

No need to worry about reserves as @Crucial says we are only picking a XV.

Most definitely not. He rates alongside the likes of J Schoonbee and Luke Rooney on the level of consideration for things like this. Where is the down vote button when we need it?

@Nepia I agree with you on the Pod Turner mention. Was good enough to captain the Bay at 19 years of age. Can recall being in attendance in Taumaranui for his debut whilst still at school. Dam well got cheated out of the lucky draw for programme numbers, brought four of them and wouldn't you know it the winning number was right in the middle of the sequence of the numbers I brought, only problem was it was not there! We also famously walked in on the KC team meeting at the Taumaranui Cossy Club when we arrived for a feed and a few warm up beers! Correction it might have been called some other name and might even have been the Mananui Club but whichever it was it certainly was one for the memory banks. Can recall our minibus driver told his missus he was taking the day off work to play in a special winter bowls tournament and might be a bit late getting home that night, believe that or not!!!!!!!

No mention anywhere above about Mark Shaw. Suppose he would be a shoe in for the 'Poo Team. Others not mentioned above worth consideration include Frank Shelford and Mark Taylor (but coud not bring myself to pick a BoP player!)

Yeah, I ignored them due to their limited playing time and expectation they'd get picked up by others.

Looks like a major injury to one of our props. Luckily John Ashworth has got himself fit enough to be considered to take his place in the starting lineup for the next game if our selectors deem the prop (looks to be Clint Newlands) is too injured to lace up his boots again (unless it is Wellington we front up against of course - Look out Nemia!!!! )

ANd now Peter O'Shaughnessey has just been the subject to a somewhat "clumsy" tackle and is off undergoing the Head Injury protocol. Is Mark Sisam next in line or would one of the younger guys get the nod if Saus gets the three week stand down?

Time to bring in McClutchie - the Canes selectors might realise he exists then.
