Out of interest what %age of the donation do Patreon take?
Also, is there a way we can directly transfer cash (lump sum instead of monthly/no Patreon fees) etc?
They don't appear to support that, but we do have a paypal that it gets funnelled to that we can make available?
Since the costs are monthly, it would great to have a small amount regularly so we can see the income match those costs. But if people prefer to do a one of payment, we can sort something out.

Happy to do whatever works best, but I thought last time we did it we just transferred money into one of your guys bank accounts? Don't like to see two middlemen clip the ticket.

Yep, that's what we used to do. We had a different hosting model then, and that was good for one off costs. We now have our own server, that Duluth and I manage, and it's a monthly cost.
That's why we added in the google ads, but that has become less desirable.

Done.

Thanks!
You took us over the $100 NZD mark, so thanks everybody. Going to see how this settles down over February, then we move up to the next size server. This will double the CPU and RAM, and give us more bandwidth.
In terms of performance, memory is the bottleneck, so that should have a good impact. Duluth is also turning on metrics for this, so we can monitor this more closely.
I'll let Duluth talk in more detail about the new areas he's putting together, but there are more features inbound that will be particularly useful for the Super Rugby season.
-
You were asking for feedback from anyone that thinks this is a bad idea. I think it's a great idea, but, the only thing I'd say is that given people are paying I hope you don't feel more responsibility/pressure to keep delivering new features etc. Obviously the improvements you've been making are awesome, but also appreciate that you both have lives so I wouldn't want this to encroach on your personal lives too much.
I think I speak for everyone when I say we are pitching in to keep the site running, and away from the prying eyes of our overlords Google, so we don't expect you to suddenly increase your workload now that members are putting in a couple of dollars.
Really appreciate the effort you guys have put in to give us all a place to rant about our favourite sports (as well as other things).

yeah, what that guy said
