This is not a crack at what you have said as I tend to agree. But are they only disconnected to 'our' reality? They live in their own reality which is as they see fit.
I say this only as it made me think that I am probably disconnected from the reality of a single parent with 2 or 3 kids working hard to support them.
We all have our own reality to live in, if you get what I mean?

I do get what you mean . I don’t think they should try and preach to us how we should live though . For example , Cate Blanchett on metoo .
Named her kid after a convicted child rapist though
-
@Hooroo agree, I always think back to when I was living in the UK and was a huge deal about a special one off perfume David Beckham had made for Victoria.
It cost something like £20,000...which is outrageous to me, but to him, that was less than a weeks salary.
We all live in our own bubbles to an extent, top to bottom.

Why not? I have never taken the advice of someone like that? It's us that gets to pick and choose what preaching we listen to.
I kind of see it as the people complaining about them preaching the ones with the issue as I don't understand how they can let it affect them unless they want to be affected by it. (Effect??)

I don't think anyone really takes their advice, which is why Ricky's comments have been so well received. I just think people are enjoying taking the piss out of these super rich massive fucking hypocrites trying to dictate to the masses how they should live and/or vote. If award shows went back to actually celebrating the art more people would probably tune in again, but they're filled with bizarre political rants these days.

To be honest it’s the hypocrisy that irritates me , I’ll probably never take advice from a celebrity . Seeing these clowns preach when they are so full of shit themselves is pretty ridiculous.
Having said that. Cate Blanchett? Totally would .

It's there so people have something to vent at because people like to be annoyed by stuff rather than dismiss and ignore it

I don't listen to Mormons that (used to) arrive on my doorstep to preach either and they certainly live in their own reality.
No, I didn't eat them or turn them into clothing, although I suspect that I threatened to last time. It was early on a Saturday morning and I was hung over. They haven't been back.
I also haven't watched any of the Golden Globes other than Gervais, so I'm with you @Hooroo .

Yup! Ricky Gervais actually did a great bit on that in his recent stand up Humanity:

Pretty much everything irritates me in some way these days . I hope it’s not reflected in my posts at all .

The only part of the globes is what I’ve seen of Gervais on Twitter, that’s probably the same for everyone here and most of the planet .
I’d love to know if that’s what the organisers actually wanted because they’ve had him on five times now and he’s ramped up his roasting every time and people all over the world are talking about the golden globes. To be honest I’ve never paid any attention to them before he started hosting them .The Gaadfather has a great rant about them
-
@jegga That's pretty bloody good. I don't think I have ever seen (or done) such a calm rant.
Loved the comment about them just doing make believe or "pretending" for a living. Puts the comments in perspective and made me laugh more than a lot of movies.

It's exactly what the organisers wanted. The Globes for the last decade have been positioning themselves as the award show you actually want to watch. It's funnier, there's drinking, swearing etc.
While Gervais' rants would be funny everywhere, it fits perfectly at the Globes. It works for him too as he can dominate the coverage and commentary - nobody cares or remembers who actually won. If he did it at the Oscars it may have been received a bit differently.
There's going to be enormous pressure for him to do it again now. Even though he said he's retiring. I just hope they don't resort to some Gervais-lite comedian who tries to do the same material. Gervais is so good because he can walk that tightrope where it's searing and horrible and funny all at the same time. He's tap dancing on land mines. Only a few people on earth could pull it off.

i certainly understand this point of view. If it was just me, I don't care even one small tiny bit that they are hypocrites. Because i am not listening to what they are saying. I don't watch award shows. I don't watch interviews. I don't read interviews. Short of what entertainers do for me in their actual job, the number of fucks i give about them can be counted on the fingers of a careless piranha fisherman (the remaining fucks are whether they are hot or not). It's why i tend to miss the "controversy" moments that cloud people's judgement of films etc.
I also thing people actively listening to entertainers about serious issues need their heads read. However i know it happens...
And that's where these fluffybunnies can be dangerous. It only takes a couple of these narcissists to stand up and say the Great Barrier Reef is dead, and BANG! The western tourism market to my region dies. And we have to spend inordinate amounts of money to prove it's not.
-
@mariner4life yeah that hits at the heat of the issue. Like it or not these idiot celebrities have a big platform and can spread some ridiculous nonsense - De Niro casting shade on vaccines as an example of the damage they can do.
-
A lot of them have also been at the forefront of whipping up a lot of really over the top hysteria about Trump which I don't think has been good for America.

I get that too and the consequence of that is frustrating as it's not who has said it but who has believed it.
I guess with 'living in a certain reality' thing cross pollinates into others.
What has made me think about this is that I guy in our local who is younger and has a kid was short of a quid for a beer. On his way out I had a quiet word and said if he is in trouble financially this particular week, I could give him $100. (His kid was less than a month old and I really felt for him)
Anyway the next day I saw him slip $20 into the pokies and I frowned on the inside as I realised I hadn't helped him at all. I just didn't understand the reality he lived in which was completely different to me. I won't see a cent of that $100 and it is as if it was never lent to him in the first place. I find that quite bizarre as if I had borrowed money, it would be at the front of my mind until I had paid it back.
To summarise, in my mind, we all have our own realities which are quite different but still absolute.
