Cricket: NZ vs Aus

First time in a while I've doubted young Kane. I can forgive his shot, just, with a bit of mental manipulation, but bowling Blundell after lunch had an odour of white flag about it.
More of a prayer than a plan and 3 overs for a net bowler at a crucial restart is as unfathomable as it is unforgivable.
Blundell must have been something that was discussed at lunch, so Stead has surely got to be partially culpable for that decision. Agree it was a pretty strange choice - sort of like having a decent fourth grade club spinner bowl a few test overs and hope he'll snaffle a wicket. A bit desperate.

bat for two and a bit days.
When was the last time we did that? More specifically in Aus?
Rossco's done it before 😏

@Chris-B said in Cricket: NZ vs Aus:
@Snowy I mean across two innings.
Yeah, realised that. I just don't think that we have ever been particularly good batting for time - with the odd exception. Graetbatch, Rossco, can't think of too many others.

Stead isn't a patch on Mike Hesson. Never thought I'd say something like that in Hesson's early days. And Kane isn't the strong leader that McCullum was. Having said that, man for man we are simply not good enough. The only player who has enhanced his reputation so far is Wags

There goes that plan...
-
OK yeah we're fucked

Pace and accuracy. Makes a huge difference.

The height is what sets these guys apart. Really hard to get forward properly.
-
Well I thought that I would be free from watching cricket tomorrow, looks like I might have to do something else this afternoon too (if they enforce the follow on).
-
Kane should get another chance at the crease pretty soon....
-
46/4 is exactly the kind of scorecard BJ likes to walk out to. It's all part of the plan.
-
Great to see Smith drop a catch. That's a positive. Also Davey didn't score any runs again. Good test so far overall.
-
The Black Cap senior players talked well about wanting to play in a MCG Boxing Day test. But other than Wagner, none have fronted when it counted.

We have a plan?
Clueless might describe things better.

I think Mr Gregan might say something like "32 more years" after this.

Height combined with pace and accuracy. These guys are faster versions of McGrath.
We've never had a really tall genuine fast bowler and the Aussies have at least five of them right now. Billy Stanlake doesn't get a look in.
What I can't understand though is whey'd play three of these guys - surely they should play Siddle for the variation. SURELY...

Our batsmen are a fucking embarrassment this series. I'll give Blundell a pass because new and he had bugger all gametime coming into this, but I'm really annoyed at Kane, Ross et al for the limp wristed capitulation. Too many times it's not a screamer delivery or a stunner of a catch, it's just a fucking stupid lollypop to the inner circle. The Black Caps are playing like the village green XI who just met over a few beers and have never played in the big league before.
I feel really sorry for Wagner, who played his guts out trying to restrict the runs and take wickets, and this is what follows. Four top order batsmen who put on 28 runs between them. Our only hope is Latham and Watling staying in for a while. Otherwise, another humiliation heading our way.
-
@Mokey we believed our own press on our batting. This attack is the best in the world and our batsmen don’t face this pace with bounce enough. You can’t even draw tests if you don’t make over 300 in an innings. The batting was always going to be the issue in this series.

Height combined with pace and accuracy. These guys are better more durable, much much faster versions of
McGrathJacob OramFixed. Why are all our quicks little guys and our taller players like C Cairns and Oram slower bowlers. You would think we could get one or two tall quick guys that aren't more keen on playing rugby
-
That was a pretty unplayable delivery. Shame as BJ was looking pretty good.
-
How about those Breakers aye...
-
The aussie team keep going on about our ranking. I reckon it is more motivation to send us and the cricketing world a message
-
Bowling Wade? They feel sorry for us now?

The bean counters have probably told them to slow the pace of the game down

First time ever that I'm looking forward to rugby in late January....

Need to see India play Australia home and away to see who is one and two.
I think we're solid enough at No. 3 - I can't see England or South Africa doing any better than us against this Australian attack on these pitches.

That wasn't unplayable.
If they spent enough time, actually any time at all, playing some warm up games then he'd be leaving that. Who the fuck defends chest high balls outside off stump? Someone who is still mentally batting on an NZ pudding.

Have you heard the one about the All Blacks and a new coach?
-
Can't help thinking we got really screwed over not having even a 3 day warm up game. All the net practice, all the whatever in NZ will never replace time on similar Aussie pitches.
-
CdG caught on his crease and done for pace and bounce.

After a plentiful last few years Winter is coming lads......

Still lots of gaps in the Aussie team though. Wade, Head and then Paine is a weak 5, 6, 7 (especially in foreign conditions). They also don't pick a proper all-rounder. I don't think they are anywhere near India's level although it will be good to see the series next year.
Also, I wonder who they will pick as their spinner when Lyon goes which could happen in the next two years.
-
Haha that was definitely out. Santner gets a life, with a bit of luck he might survive another 2 overs.

They are definitely in a transition stage with their middle order. They bought back Wade which was a big call and then have a young guy like Head just coming through.
The fact is that with their bowling lineup they are always a chance to take 20 wickets so are going to be in test matches.
-
They bowled Wade because they only have 4 bowlers so have to rest them from time to time. It's a risk, but a calculated one as those 4 bowlers generally carve teams up.

Yeah it doesn’t really matter with that many wickets down, scoring is hard work and the wicket is not really doing much for spinners.
