Cricket: NZ vs Aus

Not really dangerous though. Hard to see it being called off unless the balls are rearing up dangerously. There was one ball that bounced more than the batsman expected - though in itself it wasn't hostile bounce.
Of course if Aussie are battling to save the test on day 5 then the calculus changes.
Did you see Cummins' second ball to Blundell?
-
If we can get to the close without losing a wicket, have we won a day for the first time this series? Taking 8 Aussie wickets for 200ish, then making 70 odd without loss in reply?
Totally jinxed it I'm sure....

Yes I did. That is the one I refered to in my post.
That is the only ball that could be described as dangerous. The previous ball kept low. That one didn't. It was not a ball that reared up dangerously, it just bounced more than the previous ball did.

@taniwharugby agree that the first order is to not get out, especially not to dumb shots, but unless it is day 5 and very unlikely to win, we still need runs to make a contest of it. Otherwise we are just losing slower.
-
So ... reckon we won the day today?

I'd say so. Apparently we need to find more wicketkeeping batsmen called Tom...
-
Good to see Black Caps show some ticker.

96 (oops... a little optimistic ... ) for 171 and 63 for 0.Aus resting on their laurels having only to play NZ A?
-
I feel for the good of the country 3 days of rain over all of aussie would be great.

@Godder said in Cricket: NZ vs Aus:
Guessing that Timmy's dropping was planned in advance based on not being good enough and wanting to give him a wake-up call, only for them to have to scramble to continue to justify it after everyone broke down.
As pointed out in the paper, Southee has been in pretty good form in tests in recent years. So based on test form and the options available, Stead’s decision deserves some scrutiny. Also the selectors named him vice captain - so it seems the Coach and the selectors have different opinions.
-
@booboo Yeah - I'd say the first session today was evens and we won the second and third.
However, Oz won all three yesterday, so we need to win the first tomorrow to get things back on an even keel. 80/1 in the morning session would do that - we'd trail by 311 with nine wickets in hand.
Unfortunately, the openers aren't protecting Little Kane - it's a 'flu-ridden Jeet.
Out of interest, I think only won 1 session in the first test (3rd session on Day 3), but we did win three sessions in the 2nd test - though some of these wins were when Oz was trying to accelerate the run-rate.
At the moment I'm scoring it Oz 20; NZ 6; Even 4.
-
@Chris-B I’m scoring it 2-0 and most likely 3-0
-
Great to see us wrap up the last 5 wickets for 50 odd.
And then the openers dug in and batted an entire session, WTF?
They actually did bloody well, the bowling (helped by the pitch) was demanding and they didn’t ever look to be in a lot of trouble.Really liking Tom Blundell, he’s got some ticker that fulla!
More of the same tomorrow please.

Maybe everyone will move up to give Jeets time to recover. The anti-Richardson transformation will be complete when Jeets and BJ combine to post NZ's highest ever total for the 7th (or 8th) wicket

How good! A day with only ‘Strayan wickets falling!
-
@Donsteppa We have had a few of those before but in those cases there were no NZ batsmen having to face up.

It's that attention to detail that makes all the difference!
-
I think today's play by the Black Caps has shown they read the Fern. It is pretty obvious they are implementing the cunning plan hatched by @Damo a couple of pages ago.

Two days in a row!!

There's a fair amount of self delusion afflicting the world at present. Aussie cricket team join in:

Further to the above, no hotspot (none - sorry Punter, Patto and Larbusmanushaggy), no snicko until way after passing the bat, Dar unmoved (sure, not always the best indication ...), Angry Lesbian unmoved at 1st slip ... and what is wrong with the DRS again?
-
There was a little spot on the bat. However it was very small and it wasn't clear it was where the ball went past. The spot could have come from anything.
No snicko meant that there wasn't enough to overturn the decision.
-
Good on the aussies trying to vainly play the victim card. They have more than their fair share of the rub of the green thanks to the umpires and DRS. Making the rest of the cricket world hate them just a little bit more

An absolute half track pie bowls Blundell after pressure earlier in the over

Opportunity lost for Blundell. And so the collapse begins....
-
@canefan
O Ye of little faith!!!!
Given this is the last day of my holidays and I’ve done three hours work in the garden this morning I’m ready (and allowed justifiably so) to settle in and watch the BCs step up and bat out a solid day!!!!👍
Are we still only one down 🙏

🤓Yes, somewhat surprisingly Raval has now hit double figures.
-
Not a great review, looked plumb live.
-
Raval loses an LBW challenge and goes for 31.
Need Rossco & Latham to put on a big partnership here.
-
FFS, Latham now spoons one to mid on.
That right here is the difference between the 2 sides, they don’t give their wickets away like that, and they don’t lose wickets back to back, especially not both set batsmen.
We’re in a world of hurt all of a sudden.
-
Cummins has the ball touch him while his hands are over the boundary, but no problem.
More inattentive umpiring
-
A bit of luck for Phillips, Lyon has put down a pretty easy c & b and cut his hand/finger in the process.
Please, please please let it affect his bowling because he’s looking bloody dangerous.
-
Laws clearly state, no bandaging or tape on bowling hand. Will the sportsmanship team NZ let him tape it?
I fkn hope not!

We are too generous.
Chance to get him out of the game or at the very least to make him take it off so its harder for him, but no.
-
It shouldn't be up to us. It's either allowed or it's not. Umpires should make the call.
-
If we can’t put 300 up on this surface, then I think we know where this team is at.
NB: Auckland has turned this weird dull orange. Sun behind clouds with fire particles you presume.

No. Not every game of cricket is played with professional umpires. Having a clear ruling on taped up bowling hands is far more effective.
Much more logical to give the receivers of a taped up hand deciding it's use.
Don't likeit? tough, take the bandage off then
