Seems inevitable

Did we start an AFL 2020 thread?
If not ... errr ... Dean Laidley ...
"His mug shot and a photo of him in a long blonde wig and wearing a dress, taken inside a police station, were leaked."
-
I saw the photos yesterday and didn't believe it
-
Dean needs to be involuntarily incarcerated. I hope he gets the help he needs.
-
There were rumours going around quite some time ago he had some unusual traits ,
But bloody hell , I didn’t expect it to be true.
-
Is there a serious substance abuse issue amongst AFL head coaches? This is like the third or fourth allegation in the past few years that was serious enough to become a police matter?
I hope this guy gets the help he needs, seems pretty average form from the police involved there.

Some of the coaches you wouldn’t think so,
Probably a reflection on what is going on in society in general. speaking to a copper i know last week , they see some weird stuff , particularly right now , domestic problems have gone through the roof, people you would not expect, on ice
While Im here , I’m a self employed tradie, the job I’ve just finished , had Paul Roos , Nick Riewoldt, Brendan Goddard ( and the ch 10 weather man ) all within 100 metres .
Just started another job and Scott Pendlebury is a neighbour
-
@kiwiinmelb Whilst Nick and Goddard were at the Saints they did a bit of new home developing together in the bayside area.

It looks like the AFL will be back on June 11 Collingwood Richmond game that looks like a good blockbuster game at 9:40 New Zealand time
-
-
Yay, just two weeks away!
-
-
@mariner4life well when you have Carlton first up....

fuck, screenshot that boys, it's rare as fuck!
A Melbourne supporter looking forward to the season
its not snow season yet .
-
Just like the Nrl its going to be a weird season ,
interesting there seems to be a fair bit of pessimism regarding the potential for soft tissue injuries with the unusual preparation, you can almost hear the fear in the coaches voices when asked about it ,
Buddy already gone down with a hammy ,
Maybe the clubs that manage this part of things best , might be the ones firing at the pointy end

Tallo ho, old chaps!

It's not often we get to be optimistic twice in a season. I was last year, until about R3.

@sjhughes massive dilemma facing NZ viewers on Saturday night
Do they watch the rugby? or do they watch Carlton v the Demons...

One of the easier questions you have posed really but nice to know AFL still has Kiwi fans.
I was just looking for the SPATFA comedian thing about AFL and found this, unrelated but, well...
No mention of SPATFAs but funny none the less.
-
@mariner4life they do pick some strange games to put on New Zealand telly

Easy. The Chiefs are playing.
-
Shit game. Just trash.
The Ch 7 commentary team is fucking awful and getting worse.
-
Terrible return to football for two teams supposed to go deep into the finals.

Is Bruce McAvaney on Ch 7?
-
yep bit of an odd game , lots of rust and slippery dewey conditions,
Collingwood looked slick early , before richmond wore them down
you would think under normal length quarters ( extra 20 mins playing time ) Richmond wouldve run over the top of them, they tend to be fast finishers , shorter game might not suit them
-
it was terrible watching two teams i hate play turgid shit football, all the while having to listen to Bruce, BT "Duck" and Lingey tell each other what a great job they are doing with the call.
The only refreshing thing was it was Richmond v Collingwood and i didn't have to listen to 85,000 mouth breathers yell "BAAAAALLLLL!!!!!" every time there is a tackle, and have someone tell me it's "atmosphere"
-
Nah I bloody loved it. Thursday night, glass of red in hand, nice eye fillet, and some footy on TV? Heavenly.
The game was shit quality, but it was always going to be. News flash: all the other games this weekend will be shit as well. Probably next week's games too.
But I don't really care, because I just enjoy watching the game and forgetting about all the other shit going on in the world for a few hours.

@barbarian the NRL flew out of the blocks, i expected the same from the AFL.
Having two games to flick through wasn't bad though.

I don't think playing your first game back as a night game in the middle of winter in Melbourne (during the coldest week of the year so far) was great planning.
NRL were smart to have their first game back in winterless Queensland (as are Super Rugby Aus by the way) and Super Rugby Aotearoa smartly went with a roofed option for their first game back.

NRL were helped by a change in officiating that was genius in hindsight.
Best AFL ratings in 10 years for Channel 7, so clearly the masses were happy with whatever they could get.

Is Bruce McAvaney on Ch 7?
He is, but he doesn’t do every game. They’ve also got Brian Taylor, James Brayshaw, Hamish McLachlan, Luke Darcy and Basil Zempilas as their main callers plus a bunch of ex players for expert comments - Wayne Carey, Hodge, Richo, Ling, Lethal, Tim Watson etc

Gordon Bray on steroids.

The Dees hung on by a point after Carlton came back at them in Q4. I think we were up by around 23 at the last break and only added a behind for the entire quarter, or something like that. The final quarter coincided with the second half in the rugby so I only saw the very end. It was 54-53 I think, which you never would have expected after the Dees got out to a relatively early 33 point lead.
There was a goal Christian Pettraca scored against the run of play in Q3 which ultimately was the winning of the game. He was actually kicking it to a guy in front of goal but it was too long and bounced between the sticks instead. Shows how fortune can swing a result.

Qld 2 -WA 0
Lions was expected (if a little close) but i love it when the Suns get up. And smashing the Eagles is massive. Good on them

The eagles are a great team When up and running , but they seem to have a lacklustre performance In them every now and then against the odds
That Disappointing loss at home To the hawks on the eve of the finals last year, which caused them to drop out of the 4 was odd given what was at stake .
