2020 -> 2021 Olympic Sevens (Tokyo)
-
Jeez that ruck straight after the lineout looked like Yanks going straight off their feet. Not a lot of consistency on this.
-
Lol Wally has gone down, hope it's not too bad
-
The other bugbear I've got with the refs: "not releasing" penalties given against the ball carrier when the defender is not even trying to lift. We were given very strict instructions on this at the start of the season.
I understand 7s is a little different but the "grabbing it on your elbows" isn't good enough IMHO

It's an omen

Not after that turn around, I don't think
-
Oh Yank girl does it again - gets up without releasing.
-
I think both sides would have questions for the ref....
-
Great length of the field try.
12 - 0 OZ
It's looking hard.

Terrible conversion for our standard.
-
Really little offloading in the woman's game, bit bizarre.
USA finally don't shoot themselves in the foot 12-7
-
Oh oh try USA. The Americans look powerful, but slow, but the Aussies couldn't stop this try.
12 - 7 Oz
-
USA need to learn how to offload.
They keep getting the ball through the line with a support player but the carrier just takes the tackle -

Aussie defence a bit scattered there. Need to hold the ball.
Good power game from the Yanks - three tackles broken up the middle and then out and back
-
Lol that said, two offloads by Oz, then another by us too score. 12-14 to USA
-
Finally a pop pass

I've seen plenty of offloading. Depends on the team.
-
Terrible option on your 22 by Australia.
-
Pommentator has it right: why are we going like headless chickens when we've got the pace and nous to control it?
-
Fucking awful call ref - white jersey straight to deck with ball carrier, sealing it off
-
Well done USA, big turn around
-
Can't push people like that, either.
-
We refused to play with patience when we had the ball, and that cost us.
-
The Americans should just have kicked for goal. They were right in front. Adding points is important.
-
Next: GB v Kenya.
Then: Black Ferns v ROC.

Does the PD add to seeding for finals?

Nope they didn't need to. But right in front of the posts, actually easier than the sideline!

Rebound off crossbar, Aussie pick it up, run length of field for win
-
You'd think this will be a stroll for the GB team. Kenya need to add some sophistication to the size.

In hindsight, not in this game. It may matter if you finish on the same number of competition points, esp if you're third in your pool and points differential is close.
-
@stargazer yeah they topped the pool
-
Kenya play too flat. Need a depth runner to execute the size prospect.
The GB scrum uses an interesting tactic - trap it with the shin of the hooker at the back, to give the scrum half time to grab it.

That one decided top of pool so no PD required.
Possibly a good one to lose for Aus with the rather odd draw.
Looks like USA v GB and AUS v Fiji

A lot of teams do that.
The tactics have become much more complex in 7s. Even Fiji took us by complete surprise by chip kicking the first time this decade in the final!
-
@machpants said in 2020 -> 2021 Olympic Sevens (Tokyo):

They're the only ones I've noticed - most others just kick it out and throw to the plamaker off the deck.
Trapping it like that is high confidence you won't get shoved off it, which they discovered was not always great against NZ.
-
HT: GB 17 - 0 Kenya
-
GBR player massively offside at the last 2 rucks and ref has failed to ping them. That's not good
-
That's a great try!

Not so great the sarcastic wave at the chasing Kenyan, dick move

Yeah that's arse. Fucking Olympic spirit people!

This is some weirdly inconsistent refereeing
