NBA season 2019/20

Her interview made it sound like MJ went to Vegas to collect Rodman, but surely she meant that was from Rodmans' house and they'd just skipped the bit where he'd actually returned to Chicago, albeit late.
-
Some of the drinking scenes surprised me.
Rodman knocks back a beer then jumps on a motorbike in front of a large crowd, and possibly cops?
The Bulls finally beat the Piston in 1991, then get on it on the way home? Sure, they swept them so would have had a few extra days to prepare for the finals, but this still surprised me.
And then also on a plane, MJ is talking to one of his team-mates casually about being up all night (fucking) and being hungover, like it's not really that big of a deal.
I would have thought the latter two, even 30 years ago, would have been frowned upon or seriously curbed in such a high dollar value professional environment.
-
There were a few Rodman insights that hadn’t been covered in previous docos.
The Phil Jackson stuff was interesting particularly the coaching down in Puerto Rico
-
A bit more stuff around the Isaiah Thomas And Pistons game 4 ECF which I quite liked.
Thomas was a phenomenal player but I never liked him. I was more a fan of Joe Dumars and Vinnie Johnson. I was a fan of Rodman. Still to this day he did one of the sweetest blocks I’ve seen, in the 1990 All-Star game. Brilliant reaction and timing. That showed in Ep 3 when he was talking about his own personal tactics and how he trained.
-
still haven't seen E3/4 - so keen to whack it on now but I promise the lad I'd watch them with him. Is it wrong to watch them now anyway then pretend I haven't seen them tomorrow?
Edit - that's what MJ would do, right???
-
With all this The Last Dance talk, I thought I'd pull out NBA Live 98 and give it a run. I didn't think I'd play too much of it because the graphics seemed laughable, but I can't stop playing it now. Just love the rosters on this game.
Jordan was never on these old NBA games because of licensing, although #89 is suppose to be him on this game, but that doesn't quite feel right. EA did provide info on how to create MJ for yourself though.

I have an arcade game set up in the basement of my house , has 2,000 games on it, Inc NBA Jam from c 1993. As you say, the graphics are shocking, but it's still kinda fun for the trip down memory lane alone

Don't physically have any of them anymore, but am finding them all over the place. Will def watch HG at some point, I can't remember what's in each these days so fun to rewatch

One of my all time favourite basketball videos is the Larry Bird one. A bad bad man.
-
@mariner4life The body is banging but not sure about the face. Too much surgery.
-
@voodoo my mum went to the states in 94 and 97 and bought me all this Chicago gear and all the tapes of MJ(come fly with me etc) all of the MJ videos were basically the same things - cut by his high school coach at the beginning, a montage of his flying ability and then a few sound bites from him, other players, reporters, and coaches. They were all the same footage and ordered the same. That's why I love this one so much because it's warts and all.

Anyone listened to the 'Sonic Boom' podcast? Brilliant so far, three episodes in.
All about how Seattle lost the Supersonics to OKC. Lots of different perspectives being presented. Fascinating.

C- Tristan ThompsonI can't be bothered checking the others but I think you are giving too much credit to one of the younger sisters. Simmons went out with the hotter sister Kendall (Mrs CF watches that shit). Pretty sure that Kylie would have been too young to datea bunch of those other dudes too
-
Kendall is certainly the hotter of those two sisters. She's au naturale and much better for it.

Looks much like the mum. She must have been a looker when she was young. Kendall is the hottest of all of them IMHO
-
Stop ruining this thread you horrible cnts
-
Well I tried to resurrect it talking about a 🏀 podcast.
-
2 more good The Last Dance episodes tonight.
That 92 Dream Team was something else.

Agree.
A little more detail of the Kukoc 92 Olympics stuff. The golf games in the lead up to the 98 playoffs. Rodman not wanting to play golf but go to Hooters...
-
And loved it when they started playing Naughty by Nature
-
That was awesome. Falling in love with the guy all over again.
How many episodes total did they do?
I don't get why they say this doco could change the way we think about MJ?? If anything it makes me even more fond of him
-
I'm planning to watch today, but it sounds like I'm in for 2 more episodes of historical stuff with minimal footage of the 97-98 season. Dream Team? MJ and Scottie beating up on Kukoc? Golf and hooters???
Fuck me, the last episodes better show some damn basketball with some genuine footage.
As to the way MJ IS portrayed in this, it sounds like he and the Bulls had to ok the final footage being aired, and also get paid for it - that's why it took so long to come out, and probably also explains why there is nothing too revealing or nasty in the MJ-specific stuff.
-
@voodoo quite a bit of ball in the two episodes in amongst the drama.
The Knicks series was one of the best.
-
@ACT-Crusader I still haven't watched cos the kid is too busy, killing me!

The Knicks series was one of the best.
That was possibly their best title. The Knicks series was tough. Coming back from down 0-2 and with all that MJ / AC buzz going on, was impressive. MJ clearly wasn't as motivated as past years, until spurred on first by that controversy, and then wanting to show Chuck who the boss was in the Finals which was another great series (and it pained me to watch it last night).
The biggest thing I'll take away about MJs' personality from this, is his supreme confidence in his ability, outward arrogance and his sometimes immature and demeaning jokes. You almost get the impression he expected to be able to say whatever he liked, however he liked, to whomever he liked and for it to be believed, praised and if he intended it to be a joke, laughed at even if it just wasn't funny. That bit where he's having a beer after the game and banging on about the old school days when guys would drink beers and smoke cigarettes at halftime, was said almost as if he believed that actually happened, and said as if he was a 50 year old talking about workplace behaviour when he was 20. But it would have only been 9 years prior, max, and noone thought it was legit, or funny.
-
@shark that was pretty funny viewing, he was laughing his ass off, and no one laughed with him really. Just smiles like "yeah Mike"
What i am loving most is the way he would find soeone in the opposition, create a reason to hate him, and then proceed to demean him, publicly, with his game.
"oh, Drexler is as good as me? I'll fucking show you" "oh, Kraus thinks this guys is good? I'll fucking show you" and then he would target the bloke, and murder him.
Supremely arrogant, pathologically competitive, and the talent to back it all up. That's what it takes to be the best. Those things and an enormous, almost pathological work ethic.
I mean, look at Barkley? My son laughed when he said he never thought there was anyone who was better at basketball than him, but that's the mentality you need. And it's only a problem when you run in to someone better.
-
Yeah that confidence, to be able to pick someone out and just destroy them on the court. Almost breathtaking, and inevitible. It's a pity he had two reasons to hate on the Suns in '93 with Barkley having won the MVP and Krause having a chubby for Thunder Dan. However, at least that series in terms of competitiveness was portrayed fairly. I'm not sure that Jordan exactly destroyed Dan Majerle.
I felt sorry for Clyde the Glide in that he was made to look incompetent in the footage of their series, and if it weren't for a fleeting scene where they showed the Blazers won two games in that series, you'd swear they'd been swept. I don't know what Drexlers' stats were like.
Majerle wasn't made to look as bad, and probably just as well because he did hit 17 threes at .436 and averaged 17.2 pts for the series. Jordan owned him on offence with an average of 41, but it's not like he shut Majerle down as his series stats were better than his regular season stats (3P % below .400 and pts ave 16.9).
-
@shark @mariner4life it’s an insight into MJ’s mentality that is making this so good.
It’s fair to say that MJ knew after his freshman year at NC that he had athleticism and talent that was special. Talent alone will get you places and open up many doors, but the motivation to keep working is sometimes right in front of you or it has to be manufactured in some way.
The desire to get past the Pistons and win a championship got him the first.
But then two and three he had to continually come up with ways.
On Clyde, he had an excellent finals series averaging 25, 8 and 5. He just wasn’t MJ. Comparing the teams, Portland were deeper and had more options. That depth really came to the fore in game 2. But again they didn’t have MJ.
Clyde had major hops. The story goes that he could touch the top of the backboard and dunk 11 and half feet rings.
-
@ACT-Crusader they reckon Nique could place a dime on top of the backboard.
-
@mariner4life Barkley was an unbelievable player. Shot too many 3's probably (ahead of his time!), but am unstoppable force nonetheless. So athletic, so quick on the break, amazing rebounder. And yep, that unshakable self belief to make all of that work for him

And as a small power forward too.
