Ashes 2019
-
Khawaja has mainly been a passenger during the first three Tests. I haven't seen lots of him, but there's a hint of flat track bully...
-
Genius work by the schedulers putting a test in Manchester in September. First three days are going to be rain disrupted. Cold after that. I hope the lads from Perth and Queensland have some woolly jumpers.
-
Australia 12 for Manchester: Tim Paine (capt), Pat Cummins, Marcus Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Peter Siddle, Steven Smith, Mitchell Starc, Matthew Wade, David Warner
-
Precisely the right amount of Marshes
-
England: 1 Rory Burns, 2 Joe Denly, 3 Joe Root (capt), 4 Jason Roy, 5 Ben Stokes, 6 Jonny Bairstow (wk), 7 Jos Buttler, 8 Craig Overton, 9 Jofra Archer, 10 Stuart Broad, 11 Jack Leach
Weather forecast isn't great
-
Won the toss and batting. Not a fan.
-
Warner gone 4th ball.
Just not his series.
-
-
Labu-shane on 41
Khawaja’s best effort in 6 innings was 40
-
Oz two best bats survive until rain. Labuschagne is a class batsman.
Oz 98/2
Replay of the final day of the last test. Even better watching it again!
-
Steve Smith! How good! How Good???
I really like watching him bat!

@Hooroo Like watching a spastic with tourettes, but somehow he makes it work. Quite compelling viewing.
That's why I like it because he is so unorthodox. It throws everything out the window
-
Total Innings over 50 in the series so far - 20 from 89 starts (top 7 batsmen only).
Total for Smith and Labuschagne - 8 from 8.For England's top 7, only Stokes and Burns average above 30, Roy and Buttler are under 10.
-
Labuschagne is totally the real deal.
Goddamit, was hoping for sketchy aussie batting fir our tour their this summer.

After that start, 170 in a rain-interrupted day with our best bat still at the crease is a good result.
But I'm getting sick of saying "after that start", really. Warner needs to learn to shoulder arms properly, or change up his stance to Broad.

"that's the way he plays" "natural game" etc
don't worry, he'll get back to Australia in the summer and hit through the line with impunity, and all will be well. You'll be watching Toyota ads again and celebrating with the rest of the bogans.

It is the angles and decision making that are fucking him - Broad is well inside his head and he's half a second too slow to counter it.
-
Umpires call I reckon
-
Yay me.
Head not using his fucking feet. Dick.
-
I always wondered what happened to Travis Cloke. Turns out he's bowling 2nd change for England
-
Wade threw that away
-
Another ton for Smith. Has played about 8 or 9 cross bat shots to balls that would otherwise cannon into his pad in front of middle.
Archer being saved for the new ball, but besides a short burst this morning hasn't looked near as good as Broad.

He is just at a completely different level to the rest of the Aussie batsmen right now.
Marnus Labuschagne would be earning lots of praise for his performances - except they pale next to those of Smith. -
I feel sorry for junior batting coaches everywhere
-
Double century for Smith.
-
-
Made 100 more than he would have done if Leach hadn't overstepped. He may have helped save the Ashes in the last game only to lose them in the next ....

I thought exactly that as well. Can hear the conversation now:
"try and stay still"
"but Steve Smith does it"
"yes, but that is Steve F'ing Smith you unco little twat"Actually might be best that I stay away from coaching.

Well... 93 or so 😉
But a spinner overstepping? Jeez...

A cardinal sin. I saw Roy(?) drop a sitter of a catch in the slips off Broad around midnight NZT too, the Poms had a day to forget in the field
-
This just heightens my guttedness they we missed a year or so of Smith's brilliance because of that smarmy chopper, Warner (Who I also like to watch bat, when he is good)
-
I also hope this test is a draw just to amp up the pressure on both teams for the final test! Winner takes all

@Hooroo A tie in this one would be even better - last day drama.
OOOOOOHHHH Yes! I like!! Heartbreak and elation on the last ball of the day!
Speaking of heartbreak!!

Hopefully they haven't introduced some obscure test tie breaker like number of nose picks captured on camera.

Roy is fucked - can't bowl, can't bat, can't catch.
