I had been in the city and had parked at Downtown. I walked across Komititanga Square as this must have been kicking off. Lots of sirens and armed police.
Sadly, I wasn't all that fazed as that is a more and more common experience. Must have got through just as everything was locking down.
Latest reports are of multiple fatalities including the gunman

If you do a google search on Labour Party justice policy you currently get a 404 not found result, guess they are scrubbing their commitment to lowering the prison population by 30% after this.

The judge who bailed him despite choking his partner, threatening to kill her and her family and trying to burn her house down was made a judge in 2021.
You can see why given his feelings on sentencing and political leanings

Bloody awful day for the country . Two people died and a bunch more were shot and it could have been prevented if he wasn’t bailed .
This is worth watching from about 2 minutes in Ginny Anderson looks like she wants a hole in the ground to swallow her up https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/checkpoint/audio/2018899278/police-minister-fronts-on-fatal-auckland-cbd-shooting

@paremata not the “normal” approach or stance that RNZ usually take….
Nope, they’ve even lost red radio now.
Seeing Anderson trying to claim the 11 minute response time was something to be proud of was bizarre. I’d imagine those 11 minutes felt like 11 hours to his co workers. It would have all been avoided if he wasn’t out free .
Then we have the “the firearms register will prevent this in the future” narrative. Only law abiding firearms users will actually register their guns , Ferals like this pos won’t .
This happened on the same day, no wonder they have 404d their website.

@paremata don't forget one of the questions in the newfirearms appplication asks if you are a terrorist....
You can't make this shit up
They do that on military forms too, it is so they can get you for lying on the form and disqualify you from owning. So it makes it easier to disqualify someone, it is perfect sense legally

@Machpants although most people considered terrorists don't think they are do they, they do so due to thier beliefs or ideology, so in thier mind they aren't lying.

If you’re dumb enough to admit you’re a terrorist it only stops you from owning a legal firearm. The buyback and law changes created a lucrative black market overnight. The register has also caused the market for legal firearms to turn to shit as well
The fact only 10000 or so people have actually bothered to register their firearms is pretty telling , it’s phased in over 5 years and lots of people are hoping a change in government means the whole thing gets arsed anyway .
Most people I spoke to about it are afraid they are only a data breach away from a home invasion. It’s not silly to think that considering this is how the police treat this info already .

@paremata well that was the 'funny' bit of the question, has anyone ticked 'yes'...if so, what happened to them, I mean being a terrorist and all...
How does that conversation even go?
“Are you a terrorist?”
“Yes…oh shit, meant no, totally not a terrorist “ -
