i for one am just glad we have a bunch of adults leading the nation
The petty border tit-for-tat between NSW and Qld makes them both look stupid, Ana more so today.
God King of the DPRWA is throwing the toys because Alan Joyce is going to take his toys and play somewhere else (hubbing his direct Aus - London planes through Darwin, because, you know, you are allowed in and out of the Territory).
It's just so refreshing to see how fucking maturely everything is being handled.
It almost makes you think maybe we need some sort of national government to lead in times of national emergency
look, i'm just gone to go ahead and let you run your little "everything is ScoMos fault" crusade
The Feds can't do shit. That's the way the Country is set up. The State's are responsible for themselves, their own conduct, and their own behaviour.
Ah yeah, I mean the states have not covered themselves in glory with the way they've been carrying on. Plenty of brickbats to go around. I'm loathe to pass up an opportunity to put the boot into scomo because 1) the buck ultimately stops at the top and 2) he's done far more to contribute to this mess than any of the state premiers, and that's nothing to do with the constitution.
But sure, Palaszczuk seems to be having a week of dumbfuckery, so have at it and I'll try not to derail again

Worksite Anti-Vaxxer Might Wanna Start With Doing His Own Research Into That Smoko Order
A local carpenter who has just polished off 1 litre of Monster Energy drink, a 2-month-old curried steak pie with tomatoes sauce, 150 gram Mars Bar, three Winfield cigarettes, a battered cheese kransky and 500 millitres of iced coffee in that exact order has today voiced his skepticism of the medical consensus surrounding immunisations. “I’m not getting it aye” says the 33-year-old father of two, Chook Fowle. “No one knows what’s in it” Despite not breaking into a sprint since he retired from club football roughly one decade ago, Chook says he has some grave concerns about his health, and will not be heeding the strongly recommended advice of literally every medical expert in the country. “The missus showed me some links the other night” he says. “Doesn’t look good. I can’t believe they are making us put this shit in our body” As one of the hundreds of thousands of Australians who are slipping through the gaps of the Government’s embattled public health messaging, Chook has been quick to dismiss the national jab roll-out as just some big ploy by scientists to control every day people like him. He’s worried that by taking the jab, he’ll be poisoning his body with a bunch of mass produced chemical shit that actually hinders his health. One of his workmates, a plumber whose wife is working on the frontline of the pandemic response as an ICU nurse, gently questions Chook’s logic – and asks him where he’s reading all this shit. “Mate!” says Chook, as his heart pulsates with the cocktail of Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Acesulphame Potassium, Sucralose, Glucuronoiactone, Guarana Seed Extract and Tartrazine that he just tipped into his body as a carbonated entree to the two kilograms of pre-heated smoko van pastries. “You gotta do your own research with this shit!” “What does a fucking doctor know about health. They literally make money out of us being sick!!!” His workmates back off with their questioning, knowing full well how volatile Chook can get after a big weekend blowing his pay cheque on ythe predatory online betting apps. “Just because there’s all these ads and shit telling you it’s okay doesn’t mean it’s not gonna fuck your life up!” he says.

The Qld border is fucking shut okay? You can't come home, fuck you

deadset
and the hide to publicly say "i didn't give the exemption, the CHO did"

economics (optics) don't' come in to this, it is purely a health decision to keep Qlders safe

There's probably some solid medical research that shows the dangers to public health of having league players active in the community is at least partially mitigated by having their missus's present

Network news tonight says Sydney's hospital system is being overwhelmed by covid cases, there was a nursing manager(?) being interviewed by the press who said whole families were being hospitalised, including young fit people, the majority unvaccinated

Mate thats nothing new, this stat was from a week ago.
"Of the 645 COVID cases admitted to hospital, 113 are currently in ICU, 98 of whom have not been vaccinated"
https://www.skynews.com.au/australia-news/chant-high-number-of-unvaccinated-cases-in-icu-shows-vaccination-is-the-key/video/9180eab4c46c6c7db451c54e6fa77892
I dont have todays numbers, but I woud suggest the breakdown of vax versus non vax percentage has not changed much. -

If they were young and fit, why would they be hospitalised? The problem according to the data is the
filthy unwashed peasantsunvaccinated. The three major hospitals under pressure are the ones in the health districts with the vast majority of cases. The answer for everyone is clear; get vaccinated before you catch it off the essential worker who lives in your house.

hi fellow Australians, please reassure me that there is actually light at the end of this tunnel
The last week has seen a real ramp up in the political rhetoric in this country. The Feds are trying to get a road map when we become one country again. The states have either said "fuck you! i won't do what you tell me" (the thought of palachook rocking out to RATM actually cracks me up) or "we'll open before that!" and essentially we have a Red v Blue divide. And they aren't even trying to hide it
This week Dick the Qld treasurer called the Liberals "filled with crazies" because they are commited to opening up once vaccine targets are met. Mark McGown has basically outright said the WA border isn't opening to anywhere that has a covid case. NSw and the Feds want shit opened when we hit 70%.
I look at the vaccination graphs on the NZ thread and see the UK, heavily vaccinated, months ahead of us in the rollout, and yet they still haven't got to the 70% mark, and the rate is slowing. At current levels, estimates vary from mid-November to mid-December, depending on the state (and yay, I'm in a really really slow one), but pretty much every country on earth has a massive slow down well before that.
Is this country ever fucking opening up?

@mariner4life Daniel Andrews tune started to change yesterday which is something positive.
I recently completed 14 days quarantine and when I went for my day 13 test I was really surprised at how many cars were on the road.
Far more activity than previous hard lockdowns. Not that there is much to do beyond Coles and Woolies, Melbournians have clearly had enough.
Vaccine take up is increasing - so to all state governments put your energy into that rather than kowtowing to the few journos that attend your daily pressers or the Twitter brigade.

true however the current restrictions and high numbers of icu number of non vax are helping the motivation "currently". I am sure that will start to wane as we get closer to the target with the resolute anti vaxxers holding fast however i need to remain optimistic about something!

60% seems to be the slowing point. So i think once we get there we will know
