Am disappointed Mark Basham didn't get a mention. If only for the hair.

Any thoughts about Damon Kaui v Caleb Ralph for a wing spot?

I think that you already know the thoughts about Caleb Ralph for a wing spot.

That was the Christchurch effect later on 😉

That’s a name I haven’t heard for a while. He was a decent player and left NZ too early IMO. Could’ve pushed for higher honours.

Did he play for the Crusaders? I don't think he was ever threatening higher honours but he was a decent 10.

Miller played ten tests for Japan in the end. Graham Henry apparently was a fan of his All Black chances 🙂

Damn you and your facts. I was actually at a BBQ with him in Papamoa a few years back but didn't speak to him as I didn't recognise him and my mate only let me know after we'd left.

@mariner4life I tried Rua Tipoki slightly out of position in the updated list. Grant McQuiod being the other one who springs to mind?

I wondered about him as well.... there's the All Black experience of Nathan Harris, vs a charging Aleki Lutui 5m out from the opposition tryline.

Tipoki to the wing, or stick with 13 test Caleb Ralph?

Am also wondering about Jamie Nutbrown v Kevin Senio... nodding to Senio because of the All Black cap and combination with Jackson?

Was looking up Joe Tauiwi and spotted this in an article about Ralph leaving the Cantab squad against us for Tauiwi's funeral:

New Zealand Colts flanker Richard McCaw replaces Johnny Leo'o on the openside, and Canterbury's two Pacific Island wings, Marika Vunibaka and Afato So'oalo, return after injury to replace Ralph and Joe Naufahu.

The highly-regarded McCaw will play his second NPC match after making his debut against North Harbour last year.

"Richie is a player we think a lot of and he's been working very hard," Hansen said.

We must have played that McCaw bloke into contention for the 2001 EOYT.

I told you pricks not to mention him!

Just "fuck Arthur Stone" would have done. That intercept damaged me for life. People wonder how serial killers are created. It's intercept tries in a shield match at an impressionable age.

@Donsteppa my halfbacks would be Tauiwi and Rameka Poihipi based purely on nostalgia

I don't really consider Tipoki to be a Bay player.

I'm sort of in the same camp with Cashmore. Even though he's a Bay boy (i played cricket with his brother. And Jacko's actually) he is really an Auckland player. Cashmore at least racked up a few games at the end there.

BOP gets first dibs on Cashmore and McDowall ahead of Auckland. If you don't select them Auckland probably will.
