Still less than 7000 confirmed cases, of which 89% have recovered. Of the current confirmed cases, six per cent (43) are hospitalised and only two per cent (17) are in ICU.
let us out!!!!

Oddly enough, I was speaking with my Mum in Coolangatta (I wish I watched tv ads so I knew it was Mothers Day) and she said the past week has been the tightest of lockdown on the border. Previously only the highway was blocked but they've effectively blocked all the roads between Tweed and Coolangatta for cars. You can still walk but you have to have one of the passes if you're driving.
I'm sure a wall and border guards can't be too far away.

First time we've had zero cases in NSW, from over 6,000 tests yesterday.
I'm in the CBD today and it's still very very quiet. Nobody on my train in. Plenty of messages around the place on keeping distance etc.
Selfishly I hope it stays that way for another two weeks.

Where I am - I hope it stays that way forever.

Just been chatting with my boss. We're eyeing up a 29 June return to the office. Fuck that, I'm a work from home guy now ... not sure I can transition back to going into the office.
I'm extremely confident that the first day back in the office, we will all down tools around midday and head out for a long lunch at the pub.
I can't wait to get back in!

We're talking about it, but no dates yet. The plan is to split the workforce and do A and B teams rotating to minimise contact BUT the issue is we're about 4000 people who hotdesk anyway, and with half the staff still needing video calls, there won't be nearly enough video-enabled meeting rooms to keep conversations private.

There's only 6 people in my office, and we have 9 desks between us and an empty campus with 9 classrooms, a lounge and kitchen, library and a Zoom room.
We're not opening up for students until the end of Trimester 2.

Looks like the Mexicans have been letting the side down ...
On the Federal govt's latest infographics the only State with an increase of cases from 10 to 11 May was Victoria (7) .
covid19data.com.au had NSW with 1, but Feds didn't.
No infographic for 12 May, but covid19data.com.au has 17 new for Vic plus one for WA. The one in WA looks like it is a returned traveller in quarantine.

There were 99 per cent fewer overseas arrivals in April versus the same month last year, as Australia closed its border and international travel ground to a near standstill.
Early, provisional data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics – part of a series of more timely statistics designed to provide a more timely measure of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic – showed that of the 22,000 arrivals, 15,000 were returning Australians.
That compared to 1.7 million overseas arrivals in April 2019.

@antipodean i read that last night. My reaction?
"well, duh"
If the exact opposite of your story is a bigger story, then you don't have a story.

Australia's unemployment rate jumped to 6.3% in April, below expectations largely because of an unprecedented drop in the workforce participation rate to 63.5% . Approximately 600,000 have lost their jobs.
The Treasurer confirms that 1.6 million Australians are now on JobSeeker, while 5.7 million people are on JobKeeper.
Still less than 7,000 confirmed cases in the country. 704 of which are current, seven per cent of which are hospitalised - fifty people.

the next jump will be in 5 months when JobKeeper finishes.

@antipodean that drop in workforce participation isn't surprising, but it's what makes unemployment figures so hard to guess.

@voodoo cheers for asking bro👍. She's on day 5 of quarantine at Novotel South wharf Melbourne. Quite a story which I'll regale in my usual brief and succinct manner this weekend😉
Stoked she's in-country mate, must be a relief!
