Crusaders name/branding

@MajorRage cool, thanks for the info. I think a prudent strategy would be to wait as long as possible, current news cycle and all that.
I'm firmly in favour of no name change and I believe this to be a secondary issue to a complex problem on the rise globally
-
Ok. Let's change tack ever so slightly.
Whikst I do not agree with changing the name, as I believe that is trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist, or exists in the minds of people it doesn't affect, what alternative names can the collective minds of TSF come up with?
Best I can think of is The Cavalry. But sure that won't wash with some.
I see stuff suggested they may once have been called The Plainsmen. Which is not only resoundingly meh it's somewhat exclusive of their franchise partners.
I nearly add some disparaging names but decided let's keep yhis above the line.

Means they could keep the horses too ...

Man, that is soooo tempting (new names for the Crusaders)
Maybe another tack to take is to keep the name but change the imagery? As in something that is more akin to the modern usage of being 'on a crusade' rather than the knights on horseback stuff that has no connection to NZ anyway and certainly does associate the team with the historical crusades.

How about the ultimate derogatory name, which most of the locals will be happy with
“Canterbury”
It’s Canerbry

In other news Crusaders CEO has told the Muslim Community to “harden up”. We won’t be changing our name he said. The Crusades were 800 years ago so they can take their complaints elsewhere. It has nothing to do with us nor our team. Enough of this PC mumbo-jumbo, he stated.

I think a name change will only bring division in society. An often used argument against Islamic migration is that it leads to the host country having to preference Islamic culture over its own. Lets not go down that route to the resentment that causes.
Having said that with the whole one-eyed thing could an argument be made for a name change to the Pirate's or maybe the Star-men

If it seems like it's forced upon the team then it could be divisive. If, for example, the Islamic community were ok with it but the franchise changed it anyway, then maybe not.

the Shakers
I would suggest Quakers but that would be offensive to Mormons.
I've always found the prancing around on ponies more than a bit pathetic with their plastic looking swords and shit. However the music is awesome although given it's called Conquest of Paradise I guess that's terribly non P.C. too.....

At the ground it really is quite cool as you can hear the thundering hooves etc and it gets the crowd pumped too and I was always on the damn opposition fanbase

Re-naming the Crusaders is the least of our worries, but it’s a good start, or the terrorist wins.
More distressing is the name of the city itself, Christchurch. It was clearly selected for symbolic reasons — the terrorist believed a mosque had no place there. The name alone is insensitive, deeply hurtful, and causes profound pain for Muslims, who will always associate it with a mass slaughter and white supremacy.
We need a more inclusive name. New Medina has a nice ring to it. Only an intolerant racist bigot can disagree.

I'd be astonished if the Muslim community supported such a suggestion. I have a sneaking suspicion they'd be more swayed by the outpouring of grief and support for them rather than feeling such a divisive move would be a good idea.

I created a thread with a poll:

Lets move the conversation over there
