Good luck Hooroo. Did the Berlin marathon in 06 - training is a bitch! I actually trained with my girlfriend who also did the marathon. We did all our training together and despite the fact that I can run faster than her over short distances (I'd say anything less than 15km) suffice to say I hit the wall at the 32km mark of the marathon. Willed myself to the finish with a mixture of walking and jogging (and a reasonably fast last km), but my girlfriend ran the whole way and beat me home by 20 mins! My mates loved that! And to add insult to injury she was fine after the race whereas I was puking my guts out and had to have some anti-vomit drink!

Gotta have some fun sometimes!

Yes, I read (on the London gathering thread) that you'd been watching your food intake this week. In particular, watching an entire bucket of KFC (and chips) disappear before your very eyes!! <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> The dangers of drinking and getting hungry!

Jesus Christ - you're a man possessed! Going to the gym 10 times is a monster effort, I'mm most impressed. Now that I've finished the marathon I'm going to the gym again. Aiming for 3 weight sessions (Mon, Wed, Fri) and a run on Thursday at the gym then outside on Saturday (if I don't have a hangover). Play a full game of 11-a-side soccer on Sunday. That's more than enough for me!!
Keep up the good work Hooroo. -
Well Barnya, I made it. 4hrs 20mins so hardly had the record-book writers worried, but still happy to make it around. Last 10km were killer. Temperatures in Berlin got up to 26 degrees on the day so was getting pretty warm by the time I finished. Puked my ring out about half-an-hour after the finiah, think I had drunken too much liquid as a shitload of liquid came out. Feeling fine the next day, legs still a bit sore today (2 days after) but otherwise fine. Will be able to drink it up tomorrow night in Liverpool before and after the game!

Hey Barnya,
Just spotted this threar. Hard lines on the half marathon. I'm about to attempt the full Berlin marathon on Sunday. I'll let you know how I get on. -
Haven't been doing any deadlifts, but have done some squats. There's so many damn exercises to choose from and I've only got around 40-50 mins to get through everything. Maybe it's time I revisited the personal trainer to get a new programme done....

I've never tried a one rep max - probably wouldn't want to without a spotter or I could end up with a bar permanently across me!! I'm wondering what I should be aiming for if I was to do say 3 sets of 5-8 reps. Is 100% of body weight a viable target do you think?
-
Fark 120% is a mighty effort - I'd have to be able to bench over 100kgs for that, and that ain't happening anytime soon! I think I'd like to hit 100% by next year, but I've got to start going to the gym a bit. Only making it 2 times a week before work, but I'm also training for the Berlin marathon in September so am running at least 3 times a week and doing a gym in the morning / run in the evening combo is hard work. Also, I'm pretty sure doing long distance running isn't helping the strength training (at least that's what I tellmyself!).

Hey all you fatbusters - has been interesting to read some of your stories. I particularly liked Hooroo's one about passing out during his personal training session. I know the feeling of just being completely stuffed after doing exercise - although I've never managed ot pass out.

Anyway, my question is on the benchpress. I'm just wondering what sort of weight (as a percentage of their body weight) people are benching. I started out in November 04 benching around 45% of my body weight and am now benching 80% (3 sets of 5 reps. I slowly build up to 3 sets of 8 reps before increasing the weight). Just wondering what other people are benching as a percentage of their body weight, what I should be aiming for in the long run, and how many sets / reps I should be aiming for (bear in mind I don't have a spotter so have can't keep going til I'm completely stuffed!).
Cheers fellas, and keep up the good work those of you still adhering to your new fitness regimes. -
I found myself a job at a company that has a great staff restaurant. Deli sandwich bar, hot food options (Tuesdays you can make your own stir fry, just pick what ingredients you want and they fry it up for you), salad options and pre pack sarnies too. All free (including fruit and youghurts). So, if possible, change jobs and get free lunch at work! Back in NZ I always made my own sarnies before work, the trick is not to put tomato in as that just makes the buggers soggy..
I'M DOING THE AUCKLAND MARATHON!!!!
