NPC - news, injuries etc

@shark I don't think so as the same article says:
In Super Rugby, the Chiefs and Crusaders have been given $150,000, while $126,829 has gone the way of the Highlanders. The Hurricanes' owners – Hurricanes Investment Limited Partnership – has also received $112,473.60 for 16 staff.

Some news i picked up a couple of days back ,
To be honest I find this really disappointing and it displays everything that is wrong with NZ rugby..no disrespect to the union in question
Ta$man were negotiating with both Sevu Reece & Mark Telea before the Covid19 went down, this from a very good source..Reece was a mercenary at club level so it wouldn't surprise me.
As we know, both Harbour & Waikato are in financial strife as are a few unions will be once we come out of Covid19 lockdown
On this point I was surprised to read some of the staff numbers from the major unions in an article about receiving Govt assistance. Otago's payout was for 38 staff, more staff than Auckland (37), Waikato (24) or Wellington (21). Canterbury received the largest sum for 63 staff members. I am not sure if this is the total number of staff for each of these unions but both Waikato and Wellington seem to run a leaner operation but how does Otago justify having 38 staff members?
TBF, Reece is a mercenary at every level.
Are you talking about provinces in the 2nd part or the franchises?

Provinces only. It does give some details about what some of the other provinces received but not their staff numbers. I posted the SR info separately.

@Bovidae Had Sione Lauaki in our under21 squad at Waitemata , absolute beast ,straight out of Kelston Boys..probably one of the best age group players that I had been involved with when I was coaching , the other or should I say best being Micheal Jones whom I was privileged enough to play with at Waitemata .
Also had a bit of time for kid by the name of Matiu Walters when I was involved with age group , excellent number 7 that had brilliant running lines..on saying that he jammed very well..superb on long bus trips. -
@Steven-Harris played against him at the Mount 7's probably around that time eh. Was a class above everyone else.
-
This all points to provincial rugby missing out if NZR has to reduce overall costs.

Could Spark buy Sky? Stock price is $0.28.

@Chris I wouldn't be so sure about that. It all depends on whether the players who are still contracted to clubs in the NH get permission from their clubs. I recently read somewhere that - for that reason - Brodie Retallick might not be allowed to play for the Magpies.

Crotty and Todd are Japan based. I hear they have permission . Whitelock is still contracted to the Crusaders and with his top league season finished will play.
Taufua was speculation

Hardly a secret.
There is no place like home, just ask All Black and Gallagher Chiefs halfback Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi who has signed to play for the Bay of Plenty Steamers. The 25-year-old has always had plans to return home to play his rugby.

Hey @Nepia
To quote an old Rowan Atkinson line, "Grant not big enough, eh?" :face_with_stuck-out_tongue:
-
@Chris-B Ta$man must have some wealthy benefactors, or their players are happy to take less from the province because their ABs and franchise contracts are so front loaded?
I wonder what the grants cover? Why does BoP get so much? I would have thought giving Southland more would make sense so they could compete a bit better in the player poaching market with their SI contemporaries.

@Nepia I suspect the players come because Ta$man's fans are so great!
Grants - I suspect they're done on club player numbers?
Possibly, would Northland have higher club player numbers than Harbour, Otago and the Naki though?
