David Attenborough turns 90
-

He has his own pop up channel on Channel 21 in NZ. All his documentaries back to back over 9 days...

I have just set MySky to record 63 different episodes.... my kids are going to be watching that stuff for years to come.

-
I love that guy so much

That was my thought too.

Only just recently finished watching his amazing documentary on the Great Barrier Reef.
-

Change the thread title BSG please.

Been a huge fan of this guy since I was about seven and spent six weeks in hospital, Life on earth was on sunday night I think and it was the first Attenborough series I can remember. Mum bought me the book, read it as much as I could understand of it then anyway.

If you get the dvds watch the making of disc, his crews are amazing people, they seem pretty devoted to him too.
-

His actual grandson was at uni with me, my missus knows him.

Once he was doing a talk and a student asked him when he realized he wanted to make nature documentaries. He replied that when he was the student's age television didn't really exist, so he had to basically make up the concept of nature documentaries first and then go from there.
-
It's funny loking at early footage of him.

Kind of a foppish snob.

IIRC he was lke the head honcho of ghe BBC - like the whole fucking BBC - or at least the TV part - before he decided that jettibg off around the world looking for animals wad kinda cool.

Love him to bits. -

Same, awesome guy. Spot on about his BBC management, too - Controller of BBC 2 and Director of Programming at various times apparently.
-

haha, yeah am sure he could make a piece of stale bread exciting!
-

Definitely someone who transcends generations, My oldest son who is occasionally quite nasty and sadistic to people LOVES animals so this is right up his alley, younger son who is a more gentle soul isn't so into it though but I'm working on him. Great that the BBC has a national treasure rather than creepy sex offenders who have made the news recently.

One I recommend to kids ( well, to anyone ) is a doco he did on army ants, fascinating in itself but with his voice it's elevated to something else again. Your heart genuinely goes out to all the little creatures that perish in the ants marauding path.
