France in NZ 2025

The nzr should arrange some games for the nz 15, and send the ABs on that.
Is this the start of the decline in value of the international game?

I wouldn't say so. France always do this, they may as well go to the Islands and play if they wanna keep doing this.
It's not like Cricket where T20 has changed the landscape to the point where International cricket is now secondary.
International Rugby, if anything, I would say is going from strength to strength.

Presumably this is a byproduct of the French season and the players being contracted to the clubs. Fatigue and too many games is a real issue for top players.
Beware too - this is what you'll get if you pick AB players from overseas. And unlike SA we don't have the low time differential to Europe, you'll be trying to bring back tired players from the UK/France with heavy jetlag. Japan not so bad, but still a headache.
We've seen this before with the Kiwis selecting UK based players and it ain't easy.
Also, this only happens if you don't care about your away record for your top team. France are France ... but this could be a result of NZ being a damn hard place to come and win.
Still sucks
-
@African-Monkey yeah most likely and I guess it depends on how 'weakend' the squad is, given they have sent understrength ones initially with the bulk joining after thier finals.

further to my comment above, Reddit says top French players can have up to 48 games scheduled a year.
Top14: 26 rounds+3 playoffs Heineken Cup: 4 rounds+4 playoffs Six Nations: 5 rounds November Internationals: 3 tests July Internationals: 3 tests
By comparison, for NZ teams it would be 29, plus any NPC warmups. That's a stark contrast.
Super: 12+3, All Blacks 14, NPC (zero typically ) -
@nzzp Slight error as if you are a Crusader then it is 26 games max as the +3 means they somehow find a way to make the playoffs.
Being expected to play so many games up north is obviously a trade off for the big bucks you get paid up there. Some of the English and Welsh clubs, in particular, are financially struggling and even going out of business in at least four instances so it might not be long before the salaries they offer come back down to Super Rugby levels (or lower) and hey presto it becomes less financially attractive for NZ players. There is still France and Japan though but there are only so many places available and presumably not enough spots open to meet the expectations of all those chasing them.

The French just do not give a fuck, to them the Club game is the pinnacle, and really only the World Cup matters internationally (and they've never won one the huge underacheivers).
They negotiate to get seasons moved around, and then just promptly ignore the changes and fill the gaps with more club product. And, traditions aside, maybe they are right given the TV deal they have.
Is this shit for us? yes. is this the first time the French have done it? not by a long shot. Will they do it again? fuck yes they will. Do they care? fuck no they don't. will we do anything about it? absolutely not. will world rugby? lol
Part of me almost admires it.

Should make them play an AB XV and invite the Boks to come out and play a couple of tests instead

@canefan or send our AB 15 to play them on the EOYT this year...am sure Munster would love a crack at a proper AB side.
Trouble we care, and want to play their best side

So what. Fucking pump them and give their young guys some scars.
Physical and mental
-
as i understand it the rules have not changed
in international "friendly" rugby the home team basically keeps all the money
when NZ plays france in france the french will pump the game up and max it financially
but if the game is in NZ the french get f'all from it so dont care about it
fiji/tonga/samoa have been getting f'd over like this forever, now NZ joining the club

Not quite. They care deeply about the 6N & there is always a lot of talk about the travelling sides in November as well.
Between their club come, these two annual events, I guess they think that's plenty and everything else is secondary and there for development.
Hard to disagree.

Will the Nations Championship put a stop the this, or will the French devalue that as well?
