Sam Cane

I am picking Cane to be huge this week.
As I said before, I wouldn't have picked him in the squad, but since he gets this send off I'm picking he'll wind the clock back for (probably) his last test.
He's taken plenty of shit on here, but he's been a fucking warrior for us and much of his work is not captured by the stats that get thrown around on here. The Aotearoa rugby pod was talking about this the other day, discussing how Cane allows Savea to be Savea. I'm going to miss him in a black shirt and that's not to mention not having him at the Chiefs.

Let's see this running game please
Smashed em bro (go to 60 second mark)

Genuine legend. His only crime is stepping into McCaw's boots.
-
Odds on he goes on the EOYT as they havne't done lots of media this week on 'final test match'
Absolute warrior who gave it all for NZ. Still limited, and had the misfortune to follow McCaw, but a fantastic human being and rugby player. Coming back from a broken neck - holy shit.

He's been the favoured openside (and for good reason) so considering the patchy form this year, they might want to take him, particularly if they aren't happy with Papalii at the moment.

People have been saying that Savea has been in poor form so not so sure about Aotearoa Pods assessment.
He made 5 tackles and missed 3 in the last game. If Akira Ioane had those stats he would have been heckled into oblivion by his haters.
Cane hits hard but he's often inaccurate and at risk of cards.

thats fair
i also think coaches havent done him any favours, naming him as captain so early (and then he goes and gets injured) and playing savea behind him who is obviously different too a typical 8 and 6 has been rotating door for years

plus he winds up the Irish no end

I’m on record bagging many of his recent performances. But I don’t for a second begrudge him this match, I’m stoked he’s getting a century. Absolute warrior, never seeking the highlight reel or the attention, just working tirelessly with zero respect for his body.
Plenty of more able athletes in this game that have had a shadow of the career that Cane has delivered us.
Rest up pal!

@voodoo did he ever publicly respond to that sledge by POM?
From one side, it was a quality sledge, but I reckon it woulda hurt Cane, and then the RWC last year was perfect revenge...then BBBR fuelled the fire.
Not Cane's style, but I imagine he looked hard into POM's eyes and smiled to himself.

Am pleased that Cane has still been playing without the captaincy this year. Always seemed like one of those guys who is a leader, even if he's not the formal captain. And it takes the wind out of the old 'he's only playing because he's captain' mindlessness.

100 Tests is something to behold
Deserves the send off
