Anyone know why the Black Caps are wearing black armbands?
Black arm-bands on for the 1st day in Galle to honour the passing of former team manager (1980-90), NZC director & Cricket Wellington chair Ian Taylor.

Black Caps unchanged for the second test
NZ sports teams and their selections... cripes.....
Razor: I’m the most conservative coach in NZ
Gary Stead: hold my beer…..

The captain gets one early then goes for lots.
We’ll see how the rest of the pop guns go I suppose.
Only watching on cricinfo but sounds particularly unthreatening so far.
The last test wasn’t a hiding and the BCs got reasonably close in the end but there were some underperforming passengers in that match.
Some heads should have rolled and it’s ridiculous that not a single one did.

@Donsteppa Much as I like Mitch in shorter forms - he's a bit of a variant on Chris Harris.
Yep, I'd still have someone else in the Test side. Just figured his ability to dry up runs at least has come in handy. Harris is a good comparison.

Chris Harris at test level made Santner look like Warnie

Southee playing as a specialist captain now that he’s taken a single wicket for 30 runs, has stopped bowling as he clearly doesn’t want the average to get any worse
Tim needs to finish up pretty soon if he wants a sub-30 career bowling average.

Yeah that to me is the difference between ‘good’ and ‘very good’ ( with sub 25 being excellent )

@MN5 Right now, he's got less than 100 runs to play with - before his next wicket.
Looking at Matt Henry's performances in the past 2 years it's pretty hard to justify Timmy playing ahead of him.
Thank Stead for handing Timee the captaincy
