I just rewatched a lot of the match after reading some of the online comment on the match. Just don't get all the parochial bs and condemnation that is being spewed out. Give the coaches and players a break ffs. Pumas played far better than expected.
I think the coaches probably planned two different teams for Argies as a trial to pick best combos for SA and Oz. They just did not expect to drop one at home first.Unlike most posters I thought it was a huge late match series of execution errors by AB forwards that lost us the match, not tactics or individuals. After a near 50 20 it was a long string of forward errors that killed us.
I thought the penalties against Ethan and Dalton were marginal and perhaps Sititi too. The lineout and scrum turnovers were bad execution. Ardies pass from the base seemed unnecessary and wild. But the try was more due to Ethans missed tackle.
My take is that our forwards lost composure and cohesion under pressure and lacked leadership. TJ was impacted as was Ratima.
We still should have won if Will Jordan had not badly overrun the coming pass.
And I did wonder why Beauden changed direction when Dmac was sending HIM the relieving pass under pressure, and not Jordie. Did either call for it?
Anyways, well done Argentina. Huge effort from their loosies and forward subs and a bit of luck of the bounce.I think we need to bolster our loosies for the next one. I want Cane starting and Finau at 6. Tamaiti into 23 as a ball carrier. Jordan for Reece. And maybe Ratima starts, to give Dmac more time.
A new coaching group is fully entitled to try out various combos and tactics!
You cant be conceding 38 points at home to anyone.
Its attitudinal. As someone else alluded to, the players are gurning for selfies and autographs after the game. Record points defeat on home soil. They didnt seem too upset though. It's all nice and cozy. Cosseted young lads, in their nice Adidas gear.
They need Rudolf Straeuli to bring them off to a forest and carry fucking logs and be forced into a lake at gunpoint for the week.

And they need a pact

Exactly this, but I doubt anything much will change in a hurry.

Clarke should get a run. Give finau another go at 6. Please let Scott Barrett be fit!

I think he’s out for two weeks. Although I hear a couple of journos will ask in this weeks media conference.

Referee: Andrea Piardi (FIR)
Lotteria…
Watched him in the 6Ns and his inexperience got the better of him on a number of occasions.

Razor working out this week what a different animal this test coaching business is, especially in NZ.
Spend the first part of the campaign testing things and seeing what works and what doesn't? Fine, as long as you win, but you lose and the knives are out instantly. There is no goodwill.
And now this week, the players were chucked under the bus somewhat (which i find distasteful) so changes are afoot. BUT, if you assume some changes were in the pipeline this week anyway, he's now caught in another story. Absolutely anyone not playing this week will be speculated to be dropped for performance, no matter what the coaches think. That's going to be tough to manage internally as well as externally.

I'd like them to ask about the lineout. When they're getting around to exits. Also if our backline is supposed to look like that when we have the ball.

The spectre of captaincy too since he didn't manage to get the players to do what they'd been practising...

What was sadly amusing is that our most inexperienced lock goes off the field and our lineout goes to shit. Just a whole lot of players standing around shouting "Yours!!! Yours!!" No-one put their hand up to lead, appaling.

I also think ALB played pretty damm well and deserves another chance. I notice Ioane came on as a sub and did precicely nothing at all the entire time he was on the field.
Not sure RI had any chances to do anything

Caught out badly for pace and positioning on D for two tries.
yep. And could'nt recover.
Could have been pattern to have him shoot up, but it didn't work and looked horrific
It was turnover ball and he was waving his arms in midfield like a lad marshalling a 737 onto stand. Then when they went inside him it looked like he was running in treacle trying to chase back.
I think what we are all getting sucked into this new philosophy of “I don’t think X did too badly”. Not doing too badly isn’t good enough.
This is the fucking Allblacks.
You need to be stellar
There are much better players out there who only got 20,30,40 caps and were put out to pasture.
ALB is two seasons away from being a centurion. And he has done fuck all. I was sick of him in 2019. We have gone through a pandemic , a Russian invasion and a presidential assassination since then, and he is still here and still mediocre.
Get him gone for fuck sake.

The first one and the tap back from Reece.
Riekos pace papers over a lot of cracks.
Personally I think ALB will be catnip for the Springboks.
Fair enough insights, yes getting done for pace in the midfield is never a good look.
