Black Caps v South Africa

@MN5 nah Conway’s done enough in the past to keep his spot. Hopefully he can find form because he’s easily one of our best when he’s on. Kane went through a period of not scoring anything and we kept our patience, we need to do the same with Conway.

Around the time that Sky lost the cricket, we'd developed a pretty World Class commentary team, while the Aussies were messing around with their blokey crap. I thought our coverage was significantly better.
They've lifted their game significantly - including poaching Smithy - but also including a couple of Brits and better analysts, while we've gone backwards. Their coverage is way more professional than ours now.

Probably right but his form has fallen off a fucken cliff. Australia will be licking their lips

Conway won't still be in the team by the 2nd test v Aus. Imo.
Better to do it kindly, tell him his spot is still there as soon as he is out of his funk. Rather than destroy him.
Young fir 2nd test, IMO. Won't happen though.

@KiwiMurph I think our guys are talking too much.
Funnily enough - that's possibly because there's only two commentators, where the Aussies have three. Our guys keep feeling like it's their turn to say something - and less time to consider and analyze.
-
Rachin going nicely, I’m glad he’s playing his natural game. He’s hit plenty of shots but unfortunately he’s picked out the fielder with most of them.

lot easier to fix that than repair abysmal technique. he looks good - could be on a hundy by now if they had gone through the field!
Slow scoring here, but slowly tipping towards NZ. I'm enjoying it

Richardson is clearly going for the Boycott look with the hat. Makes sense, as he is just as boring to listen to.
Our best cricket commentators (e.g., Smith, Doull) earn their money overseas when we now play at home.
-
@Bovidae I used to like Scott Styris, as well - tendency towards the grumpy and critical (along with Smith and Doull). He seems to have disappeared.
Richardson and McMillan tend to chatter on.
Elliott is a bit more considered, but quiet and maybe a bit too nice.
Sumo isn't going to give many technical insights.
Katey Martin might be quite good - I'm still deciding.
-
Bob Blair the cricketer gets a bit lost in the other bigger tragedy related to his life.
But he was probably the most dominant bowler ever in NZ domestic cricket.
Struggled to find the same sort of penetration at test level, though. Where he averaged 33ish with the ball IIRC. In NZs most difficult/worst period. The 1950s.
In Plunket Shield he was top wicket taker on 6 occasions, which is still the best ever.
Had a Plunket Shield bowling average of 14.73. Taking 352 wickets.
(His over FC record was 537 wickets at 18.54, his test record was 43 wickets at 35 23)

Conway badly out of form but that was a hell of a first delivery. That would have taken a lot of wickets against a lot of batsmen new to the crease - Nicholls included I strongly suspect.
Not really Right arm around the wkt straightened.Conway just didn’t move his feet again and played down the wrong line.
Most batsmen in form would have punched that straight down the ground. -
I've never seen a player transform like Olivier before.
He was 145k+
Took a kolpak contract. Returned 2 years later after brexit, having dropped 20k in pace. I believe he had an injury. But still quite remarkable as his jerky action means he looks like he is still looking for maximum pace. Rather than an e.g. Derek Pringle.

I think I heard him on the u19’s World Cup coverage

Yeah he has had some bad injuries and has remodelled his bowling action he may get a bit quicker when he works into that new action but not 145 again.
