Allister Coetzee appointed as new Springbok coach

That is a seriously light coaching resume for an assistant coach of one of the powerhouses of world rugby.

I assume that he is a transformation appointment, but even so, he must have some incriminating photos or something ...

Wikipedia left the fact that he is black off his list of achievements. I'm surprised they couldn't scrape the barrel and find someone else who was black.
-

Ordinarily I hate it when people cast aspersions on appointments due to race or gender, but in this case it is just hard to fathom there could be any other reason for it.

I was only guessing that he is black? Is he?
-

Hopefully he ends up being decent so skin colour isnt an issue.
-
Not too bothered with Stick's appointment. He must have done an alright job to do what he did with the EP U19 side. He can't go any worse then Ricardo Loubscher, and Allister Coetzee is a backline coach as well so not too stressed.

Can't say I was too happy about Coetzee's appointment either but who knows, maybe he realises it's time we develop. Maybe he realises that we are being left behind and actually need to play some rugby while entertaining crowds.

And while I'm not very enthusiastic about transformation because of the better players being left out unfairly, from what the guys in our 7s side have been doing I think they can offer a new dimension to Springbok rugby that the Afrikaans players just haven't managed up until now. Guys like Justin Geduld and Cheslin Kolbe may be small, but they play the ball better then any of the guys in the Springbok side last season. -

I want to see Kolbe playing international rugby. Great player to watch.
-

Welcome to a transformed Bok Squad. With the recent dominance of NZ rugby, the already small pool of countries that are able to run with the AB's has gotten even smaller (Aus, Eng?) Transformation will come to affect your enjoyment of a AB v Bok test match shortly.

All I want is for Andrew Mehrtens to be commentating the first game of the season the ABs and Boks meet.

When Mehrts was a Rugby international, Wanky Stick was a key part of his pre-match preparation and relaxation:

At least his surname is Stick and not Stein.

How come his name doesn't come up "Willisy"? -

I don't have a problem with Stick. Great 7s record, one of the highest try scorers for BlitzBokke, ex-captain, captain of a team to win a championship. Coached at various junior levels. This is basically where most Bok coaches started at u19/u21 level. He is not going into head coach position. I think it is exciting to have a ex-7s player as backline coach. Will make a difference.

He should be playing in that USA start up league with a resume like that not coaching an international powerhouse.

Let's get Orene Ai'i coaching our backs instead of Wayne Smith. -
Coetzee has a better scrapbook than PdV and he was pretty successful considering he was stark raving mad.

With the Bok coaching position I feel like as long as the selection and management is adequate than the Boks will always be formidable. Their playing strength sees to that. -

Everyone knows it's a political appointment, seeing as most of our backs are older then Stick (who is only 31).

Coetzee will be pulling the strings. Him being a backs coach makes it less problematic.

I think Coetzee will make sure the players are in line and together. Anybody who isn't contributing is going to get an extra session with the wanky stick, so that should be quite motivating.
-

The last time you beat us for multiple matches was with a coach of colour and complaints about him and transformation. We could be in the shit this year then.
