Forest raised the objection of having the VAR involved as he was a known Luton fan. (All refs are meant to declare their allegiances) it was ignored and then they were fucked over by him (in their eyes).
They believe they have been routinely fucked over all season (have only been awarded one penalty) so this seems like the straw that broke the camels back.
There is huge dissatisfaction with Var and how it is run by the PGMOL.
There is no accountability or jeopardy for refs in the PGMOL apart from a week reffing in a lower league. VAR was meant to stop wrong decisions that were clear and obvious but is normally the most controversial part of football, making poor and baffling decisions every week.
They are gaslighting fans with their take on decisions, not using the laws of the game, supporting their fellow ref colleagues on decisions and it’s brought the integrity of the league into question. It’s an absolute shambles.

That was the outrageous part of their social media posting 5 minutes after the game - they have since walked that back but too late. The fact that he is supposedly a Luton fan is no reason to remove him from that game - where would it end? What about if he was a Burnley fan? You would quickly be ruling out officials for all sorts of games.

They haven’t plucked it out of thin air. I believe refs have to declare their club allegiance (not all do though) so they don’t ref those games.
There has been times when refs arent allowed to ref games due to club allegiance or due to circumstance of supporting a club.
Mike Dean wasn’t allowed to ref Liverpool games even though he a Tranmere Rovers supporter, but is from the wider Liverpool area.

This is a quote from Michael Oliver from a few years ago. I’m not sure if the same rules apply at the moment but you can see why Nottingham Forest were able to raise questions about the allegiance of the VAR official.
"I never referee Newcastle games. We have to declare if we have an allegiance to any club or if a family member works at a club. You can’t do any match involving that team and I can’t do Sunderland, either, for obvious reasons.
"Because Newcastle are invariably involved in a relegation battle, when you get to March or April, it means I can’t referee anyone around them towards the bottom three.
"If Newcastle needed a point to survive and the team they were fighting to get above was say Villa, I couldn’t referee Villa’s game either. I wouldn’t want to. It’s not worth the hassle."

Well, he doesn’t have any control below the premier league so if you did get promoted, you would be straight down asap!

No idea if the same rules apply for the ref in charge of VAR - they aren't meant to be making the decisions as such, such decide whether to refer back to ref to make a call. Or draw lines and not entirely sure how much control they have over that and how much is automatic.
I should at this point state that I am a Notts County fan and we are duty-bound to dislike the mob from across the Trent. But Forest have been hard to like this season (bar Chris Wood) for their whining and employing of a ref - and complaining about their points penalty having spent a ridiculous amount last season.
Liverpool are out of the title race now unless both Arsenal and City slip up more than once - Liverpool's maximum is 86 points and given the relative goal difference, they would need Arse to get 8 points from 4 games and City 9 from 5 to finish above them.

There’s been a decent number of goals scored this season after goalies or backs try to pass out in front of their goal. It’s not the first time I’ve seen the goalie gift the ball to the opposition striker.

that's what happens when every manager tries to copy Manchester City / Liverpool by playing tiki-taka from the back with players who aren't good enough to do it. Football needs a Mourinho to come along and be different and break the way City etc play - arguably its what Madrid did in the quarter final. trouble is everything is so data driven now that people are terrified to buck the trends.

haha, yes, not quite the 'innovator' i was thinking of. Interestingly though, they get a lot of stick for the styles of play of their teams, but if i'm honest i find the City style equally dull. I miss the Man Utd days of fast counter attacks with rapid wingers bombing down the line and firing in crosses to a big lad in the middle.

Arsenal were coasting before they almost threw it away this weekend.
Amazing the different media response to Arteta compared to ten Hag a week ago when United did something similar. There is obviously a lot more context which can be applied, but ultimately the two teams went from a position of coasting to one of panic in a short space of time.
City don't look like losing or drawing anytime soon though, so this season is a bit of a formality from here on in. Their biggest test is Spurs, and it's hard to see Spurs really lifting to their game to help Arsenal win the gong.
