All Blacks v Australia - Bledisloe II
-
For the wallabies
That first half was awesome. If that's the standard you can set your RWC pool is cooked and a semi is odds-on
Valetini was probably the 2nd best player on the field. The deliberate placement to speed the ruck was opening holes everywhere. On another day that's 3 first half tries
There was some favourable whistle in the first half hour, but who gives a shit you earned it
2nd half is the growth area and that's on Eddie.
Bell is a gun, Valetini is a gun, korobeti is gun. Work with it

Am I allowed to gloat and say Finau is the boy? Surely goes to the RWC now

That 2nd half was impressive for a debutant in that particular position. Huge future.

I know I've already anointed Finau after tonight but
I don't reckon this arvo will have much bearing. We played so different to the last few weeks. Unless the the players went off reservation, the plan was obviously very loose.
I still think Dmac had a couple of shocking decisions or skill executions, but there is no way he was operating under the same instructions as the last 3 tests

Impressed with Australia. Got the basis of a good team. Things are looking up I reckon.

Fozzie’s gamble almost bit him in the ass. But kudos to the team for pulling through.
With due respect dude that's FDS summed up in two sentences.

without Ardie saving that try we lose that game

Hospital pass for Razor next year without Smith, Whitelock, Retallick, you would have to say. As to Christie, the question has to be asked again. What do they see in him?
Roigard, Lord and Barrett mitigate against that.

Seems to me Lomax, De Groot are our top two, Newell and WIlliams (in that order) have potential, Laulala is back in the rear, not sure exactly where I'd put Ofa, doesn't really stand out anywhere but didn't make obvious errors to me either..
Thought Ofa was really good today.
Best I've seen him.

If we weren't taking three 1st-fives, McKenzie would be a worried man. The odd exception, he had a dreadful test match. The game was won by changing the halves and Australia tiring. Christie was like always, solid but unspectacular. Thought Leicester played himself onto the plane, whereas Stevenson did not do enough. Jordan will remain at 14, he wasn't that flash at 15. Finau had an invisible first half but grew nicely into the match.
Hope Newell goes ahead of Laulala. Laulala was very ordinary. Savea had a fantastic second 40, along with Whitelock.
A win is a win. We definitely have 1st and 2nd XVs at the moment, depth is not that great.

Ardie saves one try per test match with a clutch turn over, almost every game

See the impression I got, is the change in play and dominance didn't really happen until Smith came on. Did Mounga do anything in the time he was on outside Christie?
I'll go back to what I said about Mendoza. Mo'unga didn't look great outside of Christie either when they both came on the field.
-
(Thought I'd posted but obviously fucked it up ...)
Re the come back:
I don't think it was down to Smith and Mo'unga. The come back was on before that.
Stevenson scored with Christie and DMac on the field.
I'm putting it down to our forwards sorting their shit out.
And I'll have to watch again, but didn't think DMac went that badly.
Kinda the same thoughts re Christie, but he's my No.4 No.9 ...
