The issue is expectation. Robertson has been so hyped-up on social media (and on here) that anything less than outstanding success pretty quickly is going to attract criticism.
He's not been that hyped up, it just appears that way when he is compared with the complete muppet we've been saddled with for the last 3+years
That's my point - people compare him to Foster. If he doesn't bring back fairly quickly the 30-40 point shellackings we regularly gave the Bokke pre-Foster, the ill-informed stone-throwing will start in earnest
The reality is the Rugby world has changed and power has shifted. Not every AB loss is down to who's the Head Coach and his assistants. Needs time.

@Machpants some of your best work right there talking of coach that gets a whole suitcase of free passes

I disagree, he will be given time, as whatever the 24+ ABs serve up will be better than Foster. No one expects the dominance of the up to '15 ABs, just an improvement on the 17-23. Admittedly if we get worse performances then yes, but I really can't see that. He will be given time by the majority, as everyone knows it takes time to build back from a disaster. I expect that 24 will not be a great year. I just hope to see different tactics than 2015

Free pass if there's injuries though, as no other team has those.
You think the Crusaders haven't had injuries in the past five years?
Quite the opposite, that's my point. Super coach has only underperformed this year due to injury. Would've taken out every team otherwise.
Poor guy.

Razor should not be immune to criticism, his assistant choices could've been better, well hey at least Smith's returning (in a significantly reduced capacity) even if it's a nominal role more than anything, I suspect he won't even be present in All Blacks camp, sounds as if he's just continuing his retirement as usual & is going to answer Razor's phone calls on the odd occasion, lol, such a pointless nothing role, Scott Johnson's previous position at Rugby Australia comes to mind..

@Victor-Meldrew
Disagree, majority on here are realists. Not going to be easy to replace Whitelock, Retallick, Smith, Mounga.
Us die hards just want logical planning and selection on a steady upward curve. No more scatter plots! -

Where is the Razor criticism?
There’s some concern around the performance of his assistants but I haven’t seen anyone dissing him.
I have always said he is extremely good at navigating a campaign.
My only question is whether that will translate to a “win every game” international environment -
@Crucial that's fair, I do have reservations about his assistants, Ryan & Hansen are talented coaches & very highly regarded, the other two I remain uneasy about. The other issue I have is Hansen should be leading the attack strategy/GP as he's doing currently for Crusaders, int. level defense coach ought to be specialist in the area.

I have to wonder about Razors assistant selections with some of the evidence we are seeing in Super
Holland and his terrible sub calls and Rangi with his kicking tactics
Early touch from Perofeta in his own half and he puts the same short cross field bomb low percentage kick that we have seen BB doing. Obviously a coached thing and if it’s not directly coming from Rangi then he should be stopping it.
The subbing of Roigard at 60 for Booth continues. Roigards importance to the Canes at the moment is equal to Ardie. He’s not flagging fitness wise so keep him on.When Henry was appointed in 2004 he brought Smith and Hansen - two of his equals as head coaches with him, in addition to Byrne and Cron.
Would anyone consider MacDonald and Holland anywhere as respected & successful as Smith and Hansen?
No, they have not won anything of note, Ta$man were patchy & inconsistent during his tenure and significantly improved after he left, they were better under Kieran Keane IMO and clearly under Goodman/Dermody.

Wasn't thinking of the '15 ABs, but immediate pre-Foster. We were putting 50+ points on the Boks in '17.
I doubt he'll be given any more time than Foster - he should be though and NZR need to clear in their support. The issue is the given truth and expectation that Robertson is absolutely, definitely certain to restore the ABs to their rightful place and will build back from the clear disaster that everyone knows is Foster.
Changes and shifts in world rugby, injuries and quality of players won't have any impact apparently..
-
I disagree, he will be given time. Foster was never the right choice, he should never have been chosen - he was not a choice of anyone apart from an inward-looking idiotic NZR. Foster had no credit to fall back on, as an assistant, maybe, but he has never been successful when in charge. So he had no credit to trade for time. Razor has credit as a successful head coach AND the fact most people know you can't go from worst to best in a season. Foster was part of the previous 'hung on too long' unsuccessful regime, Razor will be given some time to succeed. Foster had already spent that as successor in chief when he took the public front seat in 2018-19

Yeah, what is the ABs' rightful place in this day and age (also considering the players available)? There will be some very unrealistic expectations that the ABs will be back at the top in no time, without questioning whether that's where they really belong in 2024.

That will depend on who you ask.

Not being funny, but why should there be any criticism?
He hasn't had one of his AB teams run onto a field yet and we won't know if his choice of Assistants was a good/bad one until after a few games.

If Robertson loses the Eden Park record, the Bledisloe or to Scotland (quite probable as other nations improve ), it wouldn't be long before even the general media and the majority of supporters that have a brain start criticizing and comparing unfavourably to Foster.
-
Probably right, but it is not going to happen
EDIT except for Eden Park record, that is nothing, it's going to go at some point. Fuck, even the Bled we've lost it before. But he will not lose to Scotland. That sort of 'never to get back' record loss is a Foster speciality

That's not really true.
Under Keane Ta$man finished 9th, 13th, 14th, 10th, 8th, 2nd, 3rd.
Under Leon 2nd, 2nd, 3rd - losing to Canterbury each time.
Got gypped in his last season when Hansen gave Canterbury Joe Moody for the semi-final to nullify our scrum advantage.
Ta$man was on an upward trajectory with Keane and Leon, continued under Leon - Goodman and Dermody finished it off, but all the key pieces were already in place.
