I'll just have to take your word for it then.
Take Foster's
As for Barrett’s strengths that translate well for him in the midfield, Foster complimented his broad skillset. “He’s a strong carrier, aggressive defender, can kick and a good communicator.”
As for passing

Can you really hand on heart say you've seen either of those those things in the last month
Ahh, so it's only the last month that's allowed.
Oh bro
Did I miss his international career at 12 before this?
To say he has no vision or distribution is just being ridiculous. I wouldn't say he's the next Nonu, but there's no rule that you're only allowed to include his international career at 12 to be able to take into account what he can and has done.
No need to be deliberately obtuse. You could always go watch any of the other rugby this year or last year instead of demanding everyone else must come up with specific footage.
He's known as someone that can cover pretty much ten out. If you want to think that's just because he can run hard, then all power to ya.
Huh? When did I say he has "no vision or distribution "?
I'm.challenging the assertion that these are his best qualities!
They're clearly not why he was inserted at 12. He is there to run straight and hard, and he's been great at it. But he also hasn't looked to set up an outside once. That's an observation, not a criticism. If you care to challenge that, go for it.
As I've said about 10 times, I'm picking him again at 12, before and after this performance.
But anyone thinking he's the second coming is deluded themselves
For now!

Funny (ish) that Jordie had 13 runs, but Clarke and Reece and Rieko had 10 between them.
For all those on the JB wagon (I'm there, settle down), he's sure as fuck not the messiah at 12.
In most years past, we would be bagging a player like him for being a "crash ball merchant", having no distribution or vision...
It's symptomatic of the poor quality of our other options that he's getting so much love at the moment.
Again, I'm an advocate I'd definitely pick him at 12 in a RWC Final tomorrow. But he has massive work ons.
Of big concern, is that we really don't have anyone in our current A backing capable, or at least intent on, putting someone else into space
Jordie per above. Rieko is certainly a run-first centre. Clarke trips over his own feet when confronted by a tackler. Reece is a dancer, keeps his head down.
Beaudy I guess is the only one?
JB is far more than a crash and bash merchant. That was clearly the tactic yesterday. Claiming he has no distribution or vision is taking it a tad far 🤨
Could he be more? Maybe, hopefully, possibly likely!
Has he been more? Well, no.
Is that the only game you've ever seen him play?
Yes mate. That's it, just the one.
Come on.
I know you've been waiting for this moment for a long time. And I'm happy for you, and I genuinely hope it works out, I really, really do.
And I'm totally on board with JB being our best option at 12 for now and the RWC next year.
BUT - I'm fully aware of his limitations. He isn't a great distributor, and he's not great at setting up his outsides.
We can go back and forth if you want, but I can't see you moving me on those points.
Yep, he runs hard and straight, and he defends well. And that's why I would pick him at 12. But we have to be cognisant of his limitations.
You make those claims based on what? His 3 tests at 12? It's just a really weird criticism.
It's weird to criticise players on what we see of them at a certain level?
I dont know how to respond to that mate
This whole discussion started because old mate said his best attributes were distribution and vision.
Can you really hand on heart say you've seen either of those those things in the last month???
Immediacy bias
Why don't you post some footage of him at any other level of rugby then that showcases his vision and distribution skills being his stand-out attributes?
He is a big brutal basher. And that's great! But it is what it is. He sure as fuck isn't looking to put his outside into space.
You must not have been paying enough attention. He makes enough of those passes for the Canes. He made a couple of long passes in Bled 2. I haven't got the time or the inclination to sift through game tape to find it for you. But if you take the time to look it is there
I don’t think his Canes form is necessarily a good guide because if you look at this season he was standing at 1st receiver more than he was at 2nd 5. He kicked a lot but also ran at the line. I don’t mind his passing game for a fullback but for me if he is to be persisted with as a 2nd 5 it’s a work on for sure. I think what he could become good at with his size is the offload in the tackle.
-
Ok
Against Scotland get him on Silverfern cam watch and assess his distribution. -
for those without time and tissues ffwd to about 1:40 and 2:34
-
Re Jordie: He's the best option at 12 right now.
Whether he's good or bad at whatever is pretty academic for me.

Oh come on. A deep bailout pass to Goodhue, and a tap back off a cross kick?
That's your evidence???
Again, for the millionth time, I like the guy and I'd pick the guy!
But let's just be honest about his talents!
It's like saying we all love Aaron Smith because of his running game
Wait, hang on...

Accepting Foster's word on player quality?
Oh, the irony.

All in all a v.good performance, something that is expected of the AB’s. Now they need to back it up next week. So much good stuff;
- JB looks to be a fixture in the 12 jersey with another v.good performance. It allows Beaudy to play 15 and have 3 playmakers plus a huge boot to take the pressure off Richie.
- Ardie is incredible, just a beast. What else can you say? Aaron Smith only a fraction behind
- Forwards were dominant, great to see
- Papali’i was v.good. Balanced backrow with Savea and Frizell
-
@voodoo said in All Blacks vs Wales:
Seriously, this was not the game nor the conditions for passing. I'm pretty certain he showed glimpses of a lovely passing game in his first start at 12 for the ABs but don't have evidence handy.

This. Don't need spectacular, just competent.

Yeah better off throwing up his hurricanes highlights where there's a handful of lovely decisions - but these videos by their nature aren't going to show his assists.
-
One thing that has always impressed me with Jordie is that he is strong passing L-R or R-L

Ain't nobody arguing this. Far and away the best option at 12, especially when weighed with the subsequent fall off (or not) at 15.
DH/RTS 12 and JB 15?
Or
JB 12 and BB 15?
Its option 2 thanks, every time 👌
The only spanner in the works is whether they want to try ALB/Rieko in the midfield.
Thoughts on that???

For me, passing or no passing, JB seems to be doing something that we haven't seen for some time, that is getting our team onto the front foot from MF. So he is the first name on the sheet in MF and the others can fight it out. He creates space simply by virtue of the fact that he sucks the D line in, as opposed to what we were doing before. RI and ALB are two different styles of player. SLB has only come back from injury, bring him off the bench while we give the RM/JB/RI axis a chance to see what they can do

How good was our clean out. It was exactly what I've been wanting to see for some time. The forwards were clinically brutal shifting any opposition from the breakdown area
Keeping things narrower probably helped.
