All Blacks squad - The Rugby Championship

@Crucial I respect your views. In this litigious world there are due processes that must be followed and completed. If there are some tough calls being made then they should be made in a way that is fair to all parties with no evidence of a predetermined outcome. It wasn't long ago that Glenn Moore got hung out to dry by media and I was very concerned how that all unfolded. I respect Jo Malcolm bringing in the balance of the human side after that.
The public needs to know the actions taken. But it seemed to me like there was demand for instant actions while that would be disastrous if proper process was not followed.
I expect we will all be better informed later today. ... except for the source of the leak in the camp. -

Possible names :
LHP : Ethan de Groot. Questions about his fitness but was Karl T fitter ? Brings physicality. Scrummaging Okayish.
Ollie Norris : Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Very good for the Maoris in the first test, poor in the second. Maybe one year too early for him.
Tamaiti Williams : can play on both sides of the scrum, which could be a bonus. He is the one with the highest ceiling. His scrummaging is head scratching as he can dominate his opponent in one scrum and then being monstered in the following one.
Hodgman : great workrate, scrummaging not so good.THP :
Tyrel Lomax : penalty magnet and tits for hands. Can scrum and good workrate.
Fletcher Newell : Good scrummager and dynamic in the loose, occasionally. Lacks experience.
Olli Jager : not outstanding but solid in most phases. Would not do worse than Nepo nor Ofa anyway.Hookers :
Asafo Aumua. Upside : his strength. Downside : tends to go missing.
George Bell : too young, of course. Could he be taken as an apprentice ?
Brodie McAllister : he is the type of player who won't let you down. Journeyman though.
Thompson : he has a very high ceiling IMO; he is the NZ Malcom Marx but his LO throwing has to improve drastically.Locks :
Josh Dickson. He could be the new Keith Robinson. Not brillant but solid in every facet of a lock play.
MSR : his criminal record does not favor him. Big man with good hands and mongrel. His showing for the Maoris against Ireland does not plead for him.
IWL : big and strong. I would prefer him over PT. Mobility questionable.
Goodhue : he's leaving so nah. Was part of a dominated front five in the SRP final.
Gallagher and Sangster : both need a watch for the future, but it's too early for them.
Quinten Strange : journeyman. Strengths : ? Won't let the side down though.Loose forwards :
Cullen Grace : the main favorite to get into the squad. Excellent LO jumper, mobile and hard hitter in defense. Ball carrying not so flashy.
Shannon Frizzel : good workrate but does not deliver at the highest level.
Luke Jacobson : defense good, ball carrying good, but goes missing occasionally.
Tom Robinson : great workrate, good LO jumper. Ball carrying in the tight not so good as he lacks sheer power.Halfbacks :
Brad Weber : has plenty of experience but passing sloppy at times.
TJP : plenty of experience too. Very good in defense but his passing is slow and very inaccurate most of the time.1st Five :
DMac : would displace Stephen Perofeta who did not have a single opportunity to show his worth.2nd Five :
Thomas Umaga-Jensen : big and strong but not very fast. Defense questionable. Would bring something different to the midfield.
Alex Nankivell : was brillant during the first rounds of the SRP then his form slipped down. Very poor outing for the Maoris.Centre :
Bailyn Sullivan : Outstanding with the Canes when given the opportunity. Poor display for the Maoris against Ireland. Does not look like an international centre, for the moment.Wings :
Mark Telea : is he considered as being a member of the current squad ? Can break tackles and be brillant. Tends to blunder badly as well.
Lam : big, strong and fast. Very dangerous with ball in hand. Defense ? Reliability under the high ball ?Full back :
Zarn Sullivan. This man can kick from hand and he can run too. Brillant future IMO.great post
I'm going to throw it out there, we dont have the luxury of picking tight forwards who cant scrum and lineout. there was a time we had the skill/confidence to attack from back foot ball, mobil tight forwards for second phase ball were worth it....right now i think we need to go back to first principles, stable set piece to give or backs the best chance to attack, so anyone on that list who cant scrum shouldnt be there
i know this would never happen, its just my personal approach to a problem, go back to first principles and build back up
True but we could scrum test 1. We just didn't expect the Irish to have a coach who could respond in test 2 and 3 and we didn't have a plan B and C.

If there are changes to be made that need to be explained to and ratified by the board (possibly even for DFA reasons) then it's pretty obvious that a board meeting scheduled way before the shit hit the fan would be rescheduled to deal with it.
Yes. By moving it forward!
Whose idea of crisis management is to let it simmer for a bit longer?
@Chester-Draws
Me in the kitchen. Usually have explosive results. Must get a higher ceiling. Oh, that was your point.
In fairness the NZR did say it wasn't good enough then went all quiet except for blame the captain leaks. Oh. -

I think we should be focusing on getting parity at scrumtime and hving attacking options at the line out, which seems criminally under-addressed by this coaching group. IMO, the line out was killing us against Ireland (alongside the kicking game).

is seems the coaches want tight forwards that run like loose forwards...loose forwards that run like backs, a 9 that play makes like a 10, a 10 that loops in behind like a 15...a 12 that can play 10 and a 13 that finishes like a winger...all at the expense of the core roles that come with these positions

I’d be interested in what these core roles are for the back positions? Other than the halfback which I think every pro team would agree is to clear the ball - what happens after that and who and how that is done is pretty different and with varying degrees of success or otherwise.
Perhaps every team wants their 10 to be able to kick in general play with some level of effectiveness, but even then test matches can be won without it. But there are 10s that spend most of their time in the pocket but then there are those that take on the line - is either of those a core role?
For me it’s a little more fluid. You have a couple of key formations and then you have variations that you use in those formations.
-
@ACT-Crusader i would agree but i dont think we have those variations, feels like are defult plays currently are what we normally would have cracked out as plan c or d, they plays that use to make a win into a hiding....but now we're trying them in the first 10 minutes
the longs pass from smith, often cutting out BB is so telegraphed...and then bb and the rest of the backline swinging round to try and run a move....but now we only have half the width of the pitch

I would have hoped that the public and journos were smart enough to work out that the reviews and changes that they themselves were demanding take time and they were happening. Did they want things all done and dusted on Tuesday in a mad rush? That would just give them something else to whinge about. Likewise a further statement that 'we are working through the review and outcomes and will let you all know when we have something to announce' only fires up even more accusations of 'tell us now! You know something that you aren't telling us!'
The world doesn't end if we find out a day or two later.I agree with this.
But the board meeting being cancelled and the post-game interviews being cancelled are different. They should have taken place, and the reason being "we don't wanna" is just ludicrous.
Most definitely.

NZR continue to fumble thier way around...
So wasnt TRC squad meant to have been named on Wednesday?
But wasnt, comms were they were awaiting some medical scans on some players, fair enough I guess.
The 'news' that Fozzie will stay on, assistants gone
The 'news' Cane is being dropped as captain
Seriously, what a joke, NZR need to take a good hard look at themselves and the leadership they have installed.
My understanding is that there are other factors at play here causing logistical problems. They can't explain that as it would just set the dogs howling with guesswork.
Wellington Airport for example has a 140 flight backlog due to the weather. Key people (players/coaches) are scattered everywhere. Certain very key personnel are on previously arranged 'leave' for very genuine reasons. They don't need (or have to) cancel their plans because the media and internet are champing at the bit to put the boot in further.
As long as they have their plans and people in place then it doesn't matter if the announcement was this morning or this afternoon.
Isn't everyone asking for thought out and measured change rather than knee jerk scrambling? Then they wanted the same timetable set before this change happened? Get real FFS.
I would have said mid-arvo today but that may move forward or back depending on how the announcement is handled. I think the plans for the day have been thrown a curveball with the weather. There may be some zooming required and maybe they feel that is a last choice and will attract more criticism.
NZR aren't perfect by any stretch but some of the demands and accusations that are floating around are assuming levels of incompetence way beyond what may actually be happening.Bollocks mate. Why don't they just come out and say that then? Cos they're useless and don't respect their supporters, or that is not what is happening? Either way, it is rubbish. No communication sucks, is not acceptable
And you know what is happening behind the scenes?
Let's say I'm right and the plan was to have a presser early this afternoon. But now it is unknown who can make it and when. Do they announce early then keep pushing it back? Assemble the wolves and leave them waiting while someone is hoping on a flight? Or wait until maybe mid morning before telling people that's what is happening.
Also if you can't tell the full story you don't give out parts that sets for more speculation.
Why does it upset you so much?
From what I have heard there is a very valid reason why an announcement hasn't been made yet (one of possibly quite a few). One that I respect. They have a duty as an employer way before a duty to the public or press. What upsets me is all we have from NZR is nada zilch, just a cancelled presser and an 'unnaceptable' release. Just let us know, 'we are working behind the scenes, there are multiple problems with X Y and Z'. No need to name names or be specific, or even give concrete dates, but fucking well talk! Communication is the key to so much and we get nothing but press made up rumours and I know more than you posts on the Fern! It is not there is no offical squad announcement that fucks me off, just that there is nothing. That is not how to run a public facing group, that it representing us. Even if they just said the bit of your post that I have put in bold, I'd be happy
'NZR and the ABs are working on some comlex personal issues, that as an employer cannot reveal. On top of the travel disruption and review into the series taking longer than we thought, means the announcement will be delayed. We are hoping for Friday afternoon, but we can't guarantee that, as previously mentioned our player's welfare is our priority. But rest assured we will have an announcement as soon as we can, and will make the full coaching team and NZR officials available for interview after the official announcement for as long as needed'
It's not fucking hard

@Machpants I wonder what questions the Kremlin will allow?
"I'm just here to discuss the squad".
The squad to tour South Africa for the All Blacks’ first two matches of the Rugby Championship will be announced at 1.30pm with Foster to hold a press conference in Auckland at 2pm.
It is understood that Foster, who has been under huge pressure since the series loss to Ireland, will front the media on Friday afternoon to discuss the Rugby Championship squad and present a ‘where to now’ plan for All Blacks fans.
-
Às per the other thread - even with Schmidt subbing Fox at the selection table, he will presumably have some different views on various players - and if he's taking a more hands on role coaching, then he'll presumably have a few different philosophies about how we should play.
As a result, we might see a few different backs, especially. A new midfielder in the team wouldn't surprise me - though who it could be and how he would be accommodated - there's quite a few possibilities.
