Foster, Robertson etc

Excellent. Another 150 pages of this thread.
A quick summary in case you needed it... :
-
Foster should never have been appointed in the first place
-
We need to sack Foster and appoint Robertson now
-
Robertson wouldn't want to take over after Foster
-
Foster will never sack his assistants as they are "family"
-
Foster has hung his assistants out to dry by getting rid of them
-
Foster is fat
-
The players say they support Foster but they are just saying that coz (insert preferred reason here)
-
It's going to take some time to turn around Foster's mess and it's silly to say new coach will achieve instant results
-
Jason Ryan has achieved miracles in two weeks
-
Robertson wouldn't want to take over after Foster anyway and Robertson's too good a coach to want to work with Foster as an Assistant
-
NZR have completely lost the plot and Foster should never have been appointed in the first place
Classic Fern thread
You've finally found your true calling.

This is such a weird situation. I get the decision and I assume that Razor (or anyone) would be reluctant to take on the job. But fark. Who is actually in charge now? I'd like to think this will work, but damn it will require Foster to swallow some massive shitburgers (as opposed to cheeseburgers).

We won't lose another test this year.
Is that a teenage snap of Scooter?

@nostrildamus Tis a fair point although I’m not sure they need a process for the next one!!

I think with the backing Foster has got from the players publicly over the last few weeks (I know what do they know, they not posting in here lol), even if there is genuine thoughts of replacing him isn't there a chance of alienating the players?
this is the issue - fozzie seems immensely popular with the players and it's a big part of why he got picked and why he's still around.
They need to scrap that thinking and take a ruthless results focused approach.
I'm hoping all that result did was allow fozzie back into the country without a lynch mob being there waiting for him at the airport.I would hope that NZ rugby public in general are intelligent enough to not even thinking words like lynch mob mate. All due respect to you and all, this is exactly the kind of thing that happened when Hart came home after WC exit to death threats etc written all over his luggage.
Not sure why anyone get's so upset. Dave Rennie is starting to cop shit in Aus as his results make Fosters look gold, but once again, the players etc seem to be in his corner.
There is some pretty shit stuff appearing about Bok coach too, Eddie Jones in England , it would seem we got some pretty shit coaches around world. The Boer coach only won 60 something percent against tier 1 nations too, and some of his selections, and non answering of reasons as to why the selections, have been nuts.
So we're not in a happy place, but neither are a lot of our contemporaries.

The deed is done, so no point in debating further. But NZRU should make it clear to Foster this is a make work, and there WILL be a new coach after RWC. The ideal outcome would be to cajole him to announcing he intends to stand down at that point, so Rennie/Joseph/Razor can plan accordingly.

so what happens if we lose the Bledisloe and then a couple on the EOYT? The time to move was straight after the Irish series, but didnt, now, they need to give him what he needs.
Still unsure how Teflon McLeod has stayed through all this, more so while other coaches under Fozzie were dragged through this too, McLeod was barely mentioned.
NZR really seem clueless.
Then we're SCREWED!
We could well be if the RC & EOYT don't go well.
My guess (and it's only a guess), is that Schmidt has the confidence of NZR and he has confidence in Foster. If things regress or don't improve I wouldn't be surprised to see Foster step down of his own accord. His coaching skills may not have impressed me much to date, but the way he handles himself under pressure has, and I think he's the sort of bloke who'd want to do the best thing for his team

It was that & Julian Savea's tweet on the abuse which set me off yesterday. Why was it left to ex-players & Oz ex-coaches to call it out?
Indeed. I particularly took on board MW comments about the impact of weeks on end in Covid bubble last year. Nonetheless, the losses will have impacted the AB’s confidence.
Then we got the TMO from hell in Ireland2.
By Ireland3 the players were playing with an anxiety hand brake. Evident in Boks1.
The pile on only made that worse.
Once we scored, the monkey was off the shoulder and normal service was resumed. Well, almost.
IMO now is the time to jump on board and just ask for more of the same.

Absolute fucking disaster. Razor will be the next England coach and the ABs will have let a once in a generation coaching talent slip thorough their hands for a "yes" man who refused any opportunity to rock the boat. Shambles!
Why will Razor be the next England coach? That conclusion doesn't make sense to me. Razor is contracted until the end of 2023 (practically speaking).
It's actually quite hard to see Razor not being the All Black head coach in 2024.
EDIT
Besides, nobody actually knows whether Razor even wanted the job this year in the first place. It's rank speculation that he was prepared to take over if NZR offered it to him... -

He's planning on post RWC I'm picking. so it's his team sink or swim, players and coaches.

@Damo Razor'll have an opt out clause if offered an international coaching job.
The RFU will offer to make him the highest paid coach in the world if he takes the England job after the end of Eddie Jones' contract.
Razor has an opt out clause at the end of 2023, he is contracted until the end of 2024. This is what he signed up for, waiting until post 23 RWC to take the ABs. Sure if he doesn't get it 24+, then he's gone. But nothing has changed for him, he signed his enxtension knowing Foster is ABs coach until the end of RWC23. So, I'll say it again, nothing has changed. As he has alluded to, he will be overseas if he doesn't get it in 24, and rightly so. Also no reason he can't come back 28 onwards and coach, he's young for a international coach

Razor will be the next England coach
Robertson made it clear it was head coach or nothing and it seems NZR are keeping all the options open for him after RWC2023. If he wants to turn the chance of coaching the AB's down in just over a year's time in favour of England, then you can only wish it goes well for him.
And considering two of our RWC-winning coaches had high-profile and pretty successful careers coaching in the UK, such a move might not be a bad thing.
