Yeah, as good as the Jags have been, I just can't shake the "flaky" tag off them in my head. Too many times have Argentina started to show promise and then lost to a shit looking Australia....

Indeed. But 9.50 seems quite long odds for a team that has shown no fear on playing in NZ and was second overall, with a sensational run-in.
For sure, Saders are still favourites tho.

@Stargazer such a crime to have opinions on forums !
-
@Yeahtheboys Wasn't supposed to come off like that. My bad.

Apparently, Quade Cooper is off contract. Some NZ franchises could use an experienced 10. Would you want him for your team?
No.
There is enough young talent around, and the Chiefs are probably still years away from actually being in a position to win it (i.e., when Brodie comes back) that we should be really investing in young talent. So, next year, we could chase McClutchie, keep Debreczeni, and either keep MMac or the other foodbill 10 from Hawkes Bay.
I think that Debreczeni could be a good enough 10 for a couple of years while we wait for the next Cruden to steal from somewhere.
Having said that, if Quade came with SBW, then I'd reconsider.

Third overall, a couple of points behind Canes
-
Odds are laughably LONG considering Canes are $5 shorter odds even though they'll have to pay Crusaders in semis in C'church
Jaguares tour very well and have 3 out their last 4 games in NZ with a 5pt loss in Dunedin their only loss in last 2 years
As well as winning their last 6 games in AUS
-
Jaquares will be tough no doubt but if the chiefs get on a role it will put the Jaquares under immense pressure,And pressure is something Argentine Rugby has not handled well since they became a Rugby force.I have seen them melt many a time.It will be a fascinating watch.

Yeah, that's exactly my point. 9.50 is way off in my view.

What pressure?
Crowd has been a boost for Jaguares
Jaguares even if they lose this weekend have had a successful season
They've developed more potential caped players who'll play for Pumas in the future:
Vivas Paulos Miotti Ezcura Carreas etc
P.S. Check out the guys they've got coming through in their U20 side
Jaguares remain a developmental side for Pumas
Chiefs are a good side but let's not get things twisted
Crusaders & Hurricanes are much better side than Chiefs
The game in Suva was an aberration Doesn't make Chiefs contenders
They should be happy just be in the playoffs considering they've been garbage for most of the season
Nevertheless they'll pose a threat but Jaguares have played & beaten better teams than Chiefs this season
-
@Jaguares4real The Pressure they haven't handled well for years its been a common thread in their rugby since they become a force, in test match and SR, this year they have played well. But they are fragile always have been.Sure they have had a good year they are an International side playing in a club comp if they can't perform well it doesn't bode well for their International's.Dont get me wrong I think its great for SR having them perform well and having them in SR but its a test side they should perform.

That's a tasty post to come back to should the Jags lose....
-
I stand by the words
I say what I mean and I mean what I say
Chiefs fans are getting ahead of themselves if they really think
they're on a comparable level to Hurricanes & Crusaders
Rebel were a fucking disgrace last weekend
Jaguares can actually kick the pill
-
Amen to that
Crusaders are the gold standard
NE Patriots of rugby world DOMINANT for 20 years
Jaguares have the best ingredients to replicate the success of Saders
Batch of young players being developed and having the chance to start
with pathways in place from U20 onwardsCulture
Kids are very passionate about playing for ARG
Looking at U20 side vs French they were ready to fight from 1st minute....
As well players will want to stay locally Buenos Aires is a great place
European & Japanese clubs not as inclined to sign ARG players so more stay in the country proportionally
COACHING
This is the most overlooked side of Jaguares revival
Ledesma last year set the wheels in motion BUT Quesada has taken it to another level
He's on a similar level to Plumtree and Razor Robinson in coaching acumen
What a surprise that 3 best coaches in SR have 3 teams with best records this season Honourable mention for Brumbies as well
The greatest complement I can say it that Jaguares play like a New Zealand Super Rugby team
Kicking game is elite - avg most kicks per game in SR this year
Counter attacking game is deadly You don't want to sloppy in D with Cancilliere and Boffelli on the loose
Physicality in Defence and willingness to concede penalties
Chiefs and NZ fans/media don't realise the buzzsaw they're likely to run into in Buenos Aires this weekend
-
@Jaguares4real I admire your optimism!
For what it's worth:
I think the Jaguares will win
Jaguares are susceptible to fast moving backlines
Chiefs tight 5 can play at either end of the spectrum - wins in SA don't come if your forward packs is woeful and losses to the Sunwolves don't happen if they are good too
The home crowd in Argentina doesn't seem to have been much of a problem for NZ teams, same as home crowd in NZ not a much of a problem for the Jaguares
Chiefs won't win unless Weber, ALB, Cane, Retallick all step up to the mark
Jaguares will give away stupid penalties when under pressure
Chiefs will give away stupid penalties because they can play very stupidShould be a cracker.

Except they have played and not beaten the Chiefs. The Chiefs have also played and beaten a better team than the Jaguares too.

@gt12 although Debreczeni is eligible for the ABs, so is a slightly different prospect...
QC would need to be better than all other 10 options due to unavailability for ABs, although has every legal right to live and work in NZ.
