@Canes4life yeah he seems pretty sure,if he’s wrong you are right he’s going to look like a right muppet and lose a lot of cred as a journalist.

Interesting listening to this interview: https://www.radiosport.co.nz/sport-news/rugby/report-beauden-barrett-will-ditch-hurricanes-for-the-blues/
Patrick McKendry sounds almost adamant the deal is done. He will look like a big d%&k if this doesn't come to fruition. Says he heard from a very reliable source that Barrett is going to the Blues, it was also backed up by two other sources.
We've been here before. And if history repeats, then Barrett will stay with the Canes and the Blues will sign Shaun Johnson.

I hope his source was John Kirwan.

Not sure if Shag will be happy with having four teams in the finals. Having our players playing extra games in a WC year is not ideal.
Good old Blues, helping our NZR once again
Seriously, though, travel is only a factor for the Chiefs. Everyone else should be based in NZ/AUS (barring freak results)

Far out I hope the Brumbies win so Chiefs travel to Oz, if the Sharks win we're pretty much done. Travel always catches teams out in finals.
it's the bad part of this comp. They've largely solved it with the Rugby Championship scheduling, but for Super it's a joke. No-one (aside from the Saders, once) have taken the long flight between SA/NZ and won. The big joke the year the Crusaders won was the Lions qualifying top having never played an NZ side ... just so much of an advantage.

@akan004 On the contrary. The experience from knock out Rugby will be invaluable to his players later in the year. Only really Reiko Ioane from the starting XV has missed out.
Depends on how you look at it. I tend to think that they would rather have fresher players than players who experienced finals rugby. Most of the players are already very experienced Test players. Fatigue and injuries are more of a concern imo.

@nzzp What's the solution to the travel in finals though? A week off in between? Mid week games? Maybe just drop South Africa from the comp? Seems like there's no easy fix.
There is no solution - it's the elephant in the room for competition credibility

Earn more competition points than the other teams?
I don't see the problem - the Saders, Brumbies, Jags, and Canes aren't traveling, and if they win they'll only travel to higher ranked teams. The conference system is going anyway, so from now on it will be as fair as it can be.
