Gibson has been very lucky to survive in previous years. The Tahs have certainly improved since he took over defence responsibilities from Nathan Grey.

Gibson actually wanted a 1 year deal instead of a 2 year deal. Both Gibson and Tana will be gone in 12 months time.

The good news is the Tahs have secured Chris Whitaker as an assistant coach next year. So hopefully Phipps will improve!

A couple of weeks in Auckland should remove all traces of integrity from his system then he can poach away.

@duluth he'd not be doing his Blues job properly if he identified players in the Crusaders academy that would fill gaps at the Blues and chose to do nothing.
Would be interesting to know if there is anything in his contract about ip and intelligence gained through his role and how he can use it. Would be bloody hard to prove that it was using that intel and not just good scouting though (assuming such a clause did exist).
You'd figure that given the relative performances of the two franchises the crusaders would have their pick of the academy though, maybe only a promise of a starting position would be the blues trump card.

I only looked over the Ta$man/MacDonald poaching article quickly, but to me it read more like they had most of their players contracted, and were confident that MacDonald would not try to get players to break contracts, or leave Ta$man for Auckland even if they joined the Blues?
-
@kiwimurph and the next part of the story will probably read something like this, has an outstanding season for Ta$man, and then signs with the Saders and Ta$man.
Think I have read this script before. -

Jordie has never played first 5 in his life, only against the lions for the canes for about 20 minutes
And did a better job in that 20 minutes than any of the other “prospects” floating around.
Agree. He was good enough that he looked a serious option as a first. My view is he should focus on FB and a backup 1st not center. Although unfortunately the current Canes coaches are not good at seeing outside of the box. Plumtree was never more than a very good (or even great) plodder forward coach who I still doubt will ever win anything as a head coach. In part because he can't see outside of his simple black and white world.
