Simple psychology There is a "Quade" at every school or workplace in NZ. We know him well. He is that spoon you had to put up with or that part of your personality you don't like. He represented the quintessential NZ dork.
When he stepped over the mark, we all collectively went, "fucken knobhead!" because he, rightly or wrongly, represented this.

Agreed. His problem was he said it didn't bother him, but based on his performances it clearly did. He definitely miscalculated that one

It seemed to have an effect, he was on top of his game (2011 Reds Super), and he created magic on the field. If you think booing had an effect, you keep doing it.

True colours came out when he copped a knee injury in the 3/4 playoff at the RWC though - he got the full applause ovation off the field. It's cartoonish - like Tom Brady playing the 'heel' - but it wasn't representing genuine dislike
