@ACT-Crusader Funny how 1 change and 1 positional change makes it look like a better starting 15 already. What do they do if BB is fit?

Moody, Taylor, Ofa T, Tuipulotu, Whitelock, A Ioane, Sam Cane (c), Sotutu, A Smith, B Barrett, Clarke, Laumape, ALB, R Ioane, J Barrett
Coles, Hodgman, Lomax, Dunshea/Va'ii, A Savea, Perenara, Mo'unga/DMac, Goodhue.
New back 3, new midfield, new loose trio.
A different 9/10, but at least they’ve met each other a few times😀

I didn't get to pick the team this week, so it's not my fault that they didn't put specialists in specialist positions. I'm not adverse to keeping Frizell, but we need a real 8 starting, and Ardie off the bench. I like Sotutu and Ioane together and Cane is basically the old version of Paps, so we are recreating a trio that works well together.
I think that Laumape won't happen, but it should - he's a specialist and was playing at a very high level before injury . I'm very anti Goodhue at 12 - everything that makes him really effective is based on his reads on defense one space out, and his ability to move through traffic out there. As bench cover, he isnOK if we can get ALB to move into 12. He's been crap this year at 12, so if we kept Goodhue to start, it has to be at 13. Personally, I think ALB offers something different but I could see them swapped and use ALB off the bench.
If we need speed out at 13, then Laumape is a specialist 12, and R Ioane could go there with ALB on the bench. He covers 12 and 13 better IMO.
My worst selection (in that they aren't a specialist) is probably Ioane at 14, but I still think that at this stage of his career, we might be better with him on the wing. Our wingers offer us very little and we need more metres and go forward - in traffic - from our wings. I think Clarke and Ioane meet our high ball and metre needs.
One argument I could entertain would be having an ALB/Goodhue midfield with Clarke and Ioane, which should help the set piece and provide a creator and finisher on either side when we can go left (Barrett, ALB, Clarke) or right (Barrett, Goodhue, Ioane).

@sparky why doesn't Akira ever get a look in?
Didn't endear himself to Hansen with some poor attitude toward conditioning and off-field issues. Major talent though. Graham Henry is on record as saying the two most powerful players he has coached are Jonah Lomu and Akira Ioane. I'd like to think Foster might try to handle Akira a bit differently to Hansen, but I'm not holding my breadth.

So if we are going to spend all our time tackling maybe we need an extra forward in the reserves. I would prefer that we played in the forwards more and coached them in keeping possession and increase the Aussie tackle count. Must be wearing to be tackling so much. No wonder we don’t see Frizzel or PT making any meters. So thinking out of the box and not being afraid to make changes:
Moody, Taylor, Ofa, Whitelock, PT, Cane, Frizell, Sotutu (Lomax, Aumua, KT, Vaa’i, Ioane, Savea) Coles won’t be around in 4 years.
Smith, RM, ALB, Ioane, Clarke, JB, Bridge ( reserves Ioane, Goodhue, TJP)
In the backs Ioane cover obvious, Goodhue center with Ioane to wing, RM FB cover in a pinch. Wings and FBs don’t need subs in my mind. Should be able to go all game. Assume BB will be out but he would switch with Ioane if healthy). If he is fit would give more Ist five/fb cover.

@Derpus Because he upsets the public outside of Auckland and probably hurt Steve Hansen's feelings somewhere down the line which even this current crop are still upset about. It's all a bit stupid and childish that he hasn't been capped at test level by now.
If Graham Henry was coach he'd have played about 20 tests by now.
-
@African-Monkey that may be the case but he has to be more responsible for himself. But we need some size and savea is not bringing it.

That's closer to what I'm expecting, I still think Ioane will beer in 13 tho
