This new season of Mando is the best yet so far.
Certainly the production values have gone through the roof in S3. The night scenes on Coruscant looked amazing in 4K.
I'll add that the episode lengths are all over the place in this season.

Great to see some excellent lightsaber action. The nerds will be going apeshit working out who that flashback Jedi was.
What was the story with the General Grievous type dude who lived in Mandalore ?
Any ideas what his deal was ?

@MN5 I watched 1 and a half, or two and a half of the first series and gave up 'cos it was dull. Is this the 2nd or 3rd series? Either way, can I pick up without returning to the first one?
im not sure enough has changed that you'd go from finding the first season dull to enjoying it...but i think you probably do need the back story
dull? i thought the first couple of episodes were pretty action packed

I don’t even know who my favourite character from the prequels is so it’s most impressive that you do

Maybe I should have included an irony emoji.

all right....who actually wants to see grogu grow up...i admit i would love to see an adult grogu by the time the mandalorian ends, with him taking up mandos mantle and just using the force on the side rather than becoming a jedi...could be very cringey....could be awesome
I'm slightly worried we wont get conclusion on what happens to him, where was he during the sequels etc
do we think they have a long term view to wrap up his story or do we think theyre just going to stretch it out as long as they can for the bucks

Surely a mandalorian with force powers would be about the most invincible SW character in history ?

@MN5 untrained (effectively) might even things? i think mace v jango kind of proved it was never an even fight, and if he leans much more to the mando side of things with just some force push/pull it cold be cool
Jango had just been trampled by that beast and his jet pack malfunctioned. If it hadn’t he would have lasted much longer.
Definitely not emerged victorious, but would have made a much bigger fight of it.
There are a few force users who aren’t Jedi. The blind guy from Rogue One being an obvious example.
-
@MN5 was he actually a force user? i thought he just kind of wanted to...and treated the force a bit like a religion
just clicked Donnie Yen has played two blind characters now after his role in john wick 4....kind of niche

You can’t fight that well when you’re blind without a degree of force sensitivity.
Good God Man, come on. Think

just a weird coincidence because i saw the last one last night and donnie yen plays another blind character who kicks arse

so, star wars probably has as much resource material as either the Marvel or DC back catalogs. like all the stuff pre disney that was "Extended Universe" (Canon) and was re branded and "Legends" (non canon) after disney....but Disney still owns all that material
Why do we think marvel can very successfully release 2-4 movies a year for 15 years (and the next few years planned out)....and yet Star Wars has managed one trilogy that was flawed...a couple of stand alone films and some hit and miss TV
why do we think we havent seen even a movie a year? there are thousands of years of "history" they could use but why do we think they didn't re cast luke and show us what he did after Episode VI

I've been saying this for years but people always got so offended. But I was right. The number of announced then cancelled films and series is astonishing. At this point the Mandalorian IS Star Wars. There appears to be no films in serious development and they're not going to be able to squeeze much more out of Book of BF and Kenobi (both of which were fůcking awful).I believe Andor was good, but it had terrible ratings.
This IP has just been handled really badly. The EU stuff I read was really good, but they turfed that almost immediately and even had the gall to claim they had nothing to work with. It's all such a mess.

I meant eyeballs not reviews.

@Rancid-Schnitzel second season already underway if im not mistaken so we'll see if the good reviews bring in more viewers
i very much enjoyed it but feel its time to leave this time period alone, pick any of the other stories from the thousands of year of "history" and planning out a series of movies, marvel overdid it probably but a movie a year with the 2 in a year that caps off a chapter would be great

It was never going to be a massive success because there was no demand for it. At any rate it was always going to be a side project. Right now there doesn't appear to be anything propelling this thing forward. As you say, it's all prequel stuff. Given the enormous amount of material to work with it's quite incredible that they've managed to dig this hole. To me the obvious thing would have been to have a new generation of Jedi doing Jedi shit. You could have developed a whole host of new characters like the Clone Wars. Even having the Skywalker twins and one of them turning to the dark side would have been infinitely better than the slop they delivered. I find it incredible that there was no overarching plan for the sequels. What the actual f?
-
@Rancid-Schnitzel just off the top of my head, jump 1000 years forward short montage showing force users were largely forgotten, you could tell the story of people recovering it, one movie a indiana jone temple dive find some holocron and boom...then you tell the story of rebuilding the jedi order...100% would watch

i actually remember thinking the sequels were going to be able hunting down luke, with all the talk of a map and shit, like we wouldn't actually see him until the third film and he'd come back all OP and help them win it....nope, find him straight away

That would have been infinitely better than the shit we were served up. Just the pure lack of originality and ideas was terrible, not to mention the mistreatment of beloved characters. I was hope that the originals would kind of hang in the background watching over the new characters, but intervene and unleash some cool shit if called upon to do so. Instead they made Han a fůcking smuggler again and then had his weird-looking son kill him. And the less said about Luke the better. What a disaster. Without the Mandalorian they'd been even more fůcked.
Just on Lucasfilm, they've probably already pumped stupid money into the latest Indy film, but fark me they're crazy if they don't get SR involved somehow.

I agree that the core material was there through the 'discarded' novels. I get that the YV storyline was too dark for what Disney wanted to invest in but the basics were there. The next generation of Skywalkers and Solos, the twins, the light and dark etc all formed a great core for a trilogy. The YV part could have been dumbed down to being invaders from another galaxy as well.
The scope for offshoots and backstories with going right back to BF also existed.
Anyway they fucked up but we can't go back in time. I think that the current lack of product is hopefully a chance to reset direction. Taika has said that if he does something it will be well back in time, the scrapping of a Rogue Squadron movie is probably good (as much as I liked the RS novels and characters). Andor has snuck through and shown that there is scope for a more adult level of content in the EU that can sit alongside the action/simple stuff.
Favreau and Filoni look like they maight be heading down a messy path by combining the Thrawn part from the 'legends' with their Clone Wars/ Rebels stuff. Hope they find a way out. -
@Rancid-Schnitzel in general i like the force awakens...but i feel its biggest crime isn't the new characters or the fan service...its that they undo everything won in the original trilogy, as you say, hans a smuggler again, luke leaves and take the jedi and the "new hope" along with it and effectively just brought back the empire

My soon to be 15 year old son is in that cynical teenage phase of his life and in between bouts of getting extremely tall he takes great delight in winding people up with his unpopular opinion just for shits and gigs.
Needless to say at the moment his favourite Star Wars movie is “the Last Jedi”
It was a monumental effort to get him to sit and watch Mando but even he had to admit it was awesome.
That tie fighter battle over Bo Katans planet was as awesome as any I’ve seen in the movies, exceptional stuff.
-
@MN5 one of my completely unsubstantiated theories for judging special effects, seems cheap movie have all their action at night (or space) i assume so they can hide details or lack of detail in the shadows....full spaceship battle in broad daylight?....awesome

Yes indeed, I loved the space battle in Rogue One as well to name another.
To be fair to the OT the technology wasn’t available to make it look as polished as it does today.
Landos heroics in ROTJ will always hold a place in my heart though, that battle is awesome.
I reckon Lucas should redo the one from ANH, a horde of fighters were in the battle in Rogue One but only a small handful came out of the Death Star which you’d assume would house hundreds of thousands of tie fighters.

Also it irked me to no end that Han became a small time smuggler who lost his fucken ship !
He was one of the major heroes of the rebellion and should have lived a cushy life after that.
the idea that their marriage broke up because of what happened to Ben.....is kind of interesting....and going back to what you knew if this new life has burnt you kind of makes sense....but lets see it! rather than just happening off screen
