@antipodean yeah that went well for them... i can see why teams would be lining up to follow suit.
Made last year's final.
If your argument is 'you have to cut a team because otherwise we'll get the Brave Blossoms' i think im done here.
How much easier you must find it to have the argument you wish to have, rather than actually dealing with what the other said.
If SR TT was to have a Japanese side, the precondition would be to not have a SunWolves Mk II scenario, but genuine JRFU support.
-
ah yes, the Great Western Hope, who absolutely does stuff out of the goodness of his heart.

no, the argument is mainly
you already cut a team, for very good reasons. Why bring it back?
Because it's funded by a guy bringing some spare cash, who is probably worth like 10% of NZ's annual GDP.
How long do people think he's going to bankroll this vanity project once he no longer gets the recognition? I genuinely don't understand why people are willing to die on the hill for the Force. Only once in their entire SR participation did they finish with a positive points difference. Their highest table position was seventh. Their squad now is a list of unknowns and retirees.

The obvious difference being Argentina didn't have a thriving club competition awash with cash.
Yeah, I think it's clear enough that Japan are interested in playing SH teams. Just not so much in a TT-style comp when they have their own regular season, but more a post-season Champs competition

Lol. I never promised you a rose garden.
Still, short of a big fan ownership component, it's a far better option than the likes of CVC.
-
Where was Twiggy when FirePower wouldn't pay its bills?

private equity makes no sense to me. Of course i am well aware i am probably missing something.

2009? Dunno.
Is paying bills now.
-
how much does teh Force cost now compared to what a full SuperTT Force would cost?
-
The Twiggy thing is a mixture of three things:
- He's an opportunist fluffybunny;
- WA is known for having a wild mistrust of people "over east"; and
- Twiggy combining both things to flog a dead horse and make some mileage out of it.
If we were demonstrably capable of keeping players here with a 5th team, and introducing measures that allowed teams to rise in competitiveness, then I'd say 5 teams would be workable.
As it is, the Force have been plucky, but are hardly a walk-up start. They're an important development resource I think.
Coaching remains a big issue. Oh well and all the fucking connective tissue below that.
If you offer players the opportunity to live and work in Sydney then why the fuck would they take Perth?

Sydney is only Sydney east of the Anzac bridge, Nick. Everything else is "West".

Probably around half.
-
drinking piss in Perth costs even more than it does in Sydney.
I don't know what the coke and rub-and-tug prices are like though

Me too. The younger generation really can’t spell these days.

@antipodean who's going to be mid-table and bring in heaps of cash? Maybe if you invite the Japanese national team but otherwise im drawing blanks.
That's why suggested the Brave Blossoms: 'If
Argentinathe Jaguares could play SR, why not the Brave Blossoms?'That’s actually a really good idea. The Japanese national team would actually be a quality addition to the competition.
This PI team that is getting floated is either going to draw all it’s players from existing Super rugby teams, which is stupid, or it will be severely under strength but filled with PI local talent with the odd NH returnee. No way the guys on big bucks up North will come back in significant numbers for the chance to play for much less $$.

@shark I think we would at least have the Brumbies in the final four, who were coming second before lockdown.
But, regardless, i really don't see the issue for you. If you have four finalists isn't that great? you get two home semis and derbies to boot.
Yeah I'm into it mate. The proof will be in the pudding. Such as the season Australia only got a team into an 8 team finals series on the back of a terribly contrived conference qualification system.
-
With say 6 teams (in a 10 team comp) qualifying for finals footy, and the 1/2 spot getting a bye, I could live with a free entry for the first 2 in each of the 2 conferences. The proviso being that all home field advantage is based off the combined points table throughout the finals. If NZ have 5 teams, I couldn't care less about the last of those teams getting a playoff berth.
