First of all, I hope Foster proves all the doubters wrong. Because I want the All Blacks to win and be great.
Second, Robertson gets time to rebuild the Crusaders after their player exodus and the departure of several coaches. It will be interesting to see whether he'll give it another go in two years time or will go overseas. I have no doubt he'll be the ABs coach one day, but not sure it will be in two years time.
Third, I hope Foster's coaching team will be more inspiring than what's been suggested over the past few weeks in the media. What I've seen looks boring.
Fourth, I'll have low expectations for the 2020 test matches. Not only because of this appointment, but also - to a degree - because of the exodus of experienced players.
All of the above would be different if Robertson is a surprise addition to Foster's coaching set-up as an assistant coach.
-
well the first tests v Wales will be huge for both teams, the crybaby Sweaties 'shouldnt' pose too much of an issue, but I think the August 15 match v Aus, became a bit more spicey...
I guess all those folks who have been bored with selections and winning the past decade are about to get excited by rugby again....
-
@taniwharugby I can foresee that Mitre 10 Cup will become even more important to me than it already was.

Plumtree's coaching record has some pretty decent highlights/experience.
- 2007 - Sharks assistant coach Super Rugby - Sharks got to a home final and should have won (Habana scored matchwinner after hooter)
- 2008 - Head coach of Natal Sharks in Currie Cup (Currie Cup champions)
- 2010 - Head coach of Natal Sharks in Currie Cup (Currie Cup champions)
- 2013-14 - Ireland assistant coach (forwards)
- 2015-17 - Hurricanes assistant coach - lost a home final 15 + won Canes only Super title 16
- 2019 - Hurricanes head coach - came within a whisker (or Sam Whitelock undetected hand in the ruck) of beating the Crusaders in Chirstchurch Super Rugby Semi Final

Agreed.

It will be interesting how the Crusaders go. That should tell us a lot about his coaching.
-
@Snowy Same ole shit. Whilst I wish him well and will always be supportive of the ABs, this is just a conservative approach and absolutely nothing in his coaching record suggests he can reverse a declining team's fortunes and create a new chapter of AB history. Of course I hope I am wrong.
One big upside is Plumtree though. -
@Dolamite we will see how true it is that 'anyone could coach the AB's' is that gets trotted out now and again.
Warren Gatland is getting some of his blows in early ahead of next year's Lions tour, saying "anyone" in New Zealand could coach the All Blacks to an 85 per cent winning record.
